What you’ll be doing
You’ll be joining the Actuarial team, which operates as a key part of the business. The team is responsible for financial reporting, valuation, business planning, reinsurance and the development of data-led insight business to support decision-making. This role will help strengthen Guardian’s reporting capability while also supporting the wider transformation programme through improved automation, better processes, clearer workflows and enhanced use of data analytics.
This role requires someone who is keen to take ownership of the Financial Reporting area, delivering high-quality reporting outputs, explaining results and key movements to stakeholders, and maintaining robust controls and documentation. The successful candidate will also support the continued development of Guardian’s reporting models, processes and workflows, using data analytics and automation to improve efficiency, insight and governance. Candidates with less relevant experience may be considered for a Reporting Actuary role.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the financial reporting process to ensure Guardian understands the value and financial performance of the business, with clear reporting outputs for internal and external stakeholders.
- Engage, liaise and discuss with key stakeholders on the value of the business and changes to the value.
- Manage and develop the financial reporting systems, processes and methodologies to ensure they are robust, well-controlled, automated where appropriate, and able to meet changing business, regulatory and stakeholder requirements.
- Maintain and develop the Guardian Valuation Basis through regular business monitoring and experience investigations; this includes feedback into the Pricing Basis.
- Maintain and develop Financial Models for the business planning and forecast process to ensure that they are robust, in line with internal governance and aligned with strategic objectives.
- Maintain and develop the Guardian Actuarial Model and related tools in Mo.net, Excel, KNIME and other applications, supporting improved automation, analytical capability, workflow design and repeatable reporting processes.
- Produce monthly reinsurance accounts for all business lines and engage with external stakeholders.
- Work with the wider business to develop management information, data analytics and reporting solutions that improve decision-making, reduce manual effort.
- Support Finance in regular reporting activities.
- Adhere to actuarial governance and support external audit processes, including producing management information and insight reports that highlight key trends, movements, risks and actions for senior stakeholders.

Experience
- Qualified actuary with at least 8 years work experience.
- Good understanding of UK Protection products.
- Strong technical competence in financial reporting of Protection products e.g. Solvency II, IFRS, or comparable.
- Strong modelling skills with a deep understanding of cashflow projections (experience of Mo.Net preferred).
- Experience analysis and setting pricing / valuation assumptions.
- Experience using data analytics and automation tools, such as SQL, R, Python, Power BI, or KNIME, to improve actuarial and financial reporting processes, enhance management information, automate workflow steps and generate business insight from business data would be advantageous, particularly where this extends beyond traditional experience studies.
- Experience contributing to process improvement or transformation activity, including improving controls, reducing manual reporting dependency, redesigning workflows or supporting implementation of new reporting and analytics capabilities.
- Able to collaborate across functions both internally and with external partners.
