We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Religious Education (RE) Teacher who is passionate about helping young people develop respect, empathy and critical thinking through engaging and thought-provoking lessons. The Role
Based at our Hockley or Northfield site, you will report directly to the Head of Teaching and Learning.
- Salary: Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
- Hours: 9:15am - 3:30pm
- Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
- Lunch and Breaks: 1 hour (unpaid)
- Hours per Week: 26 hours 15 minutes

As our Religious Education Teacher, you will deliver engaging and inclusive lessons that encourage pupils to develop an understanding of different religions, beliefs, values and ethical issues. Working with small class sizes, you will adapt your teaching to meet the individual needs of pupils, helping them build confidence, resilience, respect for others and the skills needed to succeed both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging, high-quality Religious Education lessons that inspire curiosity and encourage respectful discussion.
- Develop creative lesson plans and learning resources that meet curriculum requirements and support outstanding teaching and learning.
- Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that develops pupils' understanding of world religions, philosophy, ethics and contemporary issues.
- Differentiate learning to meet the individual needs of pupils, including those with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs.
- Assess, monitor and record pupil progress using a range of formative and summative assessment strategies.
- Prepare pupils for GCSE examinations and support them to achieve their full academic potential.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports pupil progress and raises achievement.
- Set appropriate learning targets and monitor progress towards them.
- Create a positive, safe and inclusive classroom environment where pupils feel respected, valued and encouraged to express their views appropriately.
- Use effective behaviour management strategies to maximise learning and engagement.
- Promote tolerance, respect, diversity and British Values through everyday teaching and learning.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and external professionals.
- Maintain accurate records relating to attendance, assessment, progress and pupil achievement.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice and contribute to curriculum development.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, CPD, parents' evenings and school events.
- Support the wider life of the school and contribute to continuous school improvement.
- Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection in line with statutory guidance.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who has:
- A recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, DET, Cert Ed or equivalent).
- A degree or relevant qualification in Religious Education, Theology, Philosophy or a related subject.
- Experience teaching Religious Education at secondary level.
- Excellent lesson planning, preparation and organisational skills.
- Experience of assessing, monitoring and tracking pupil progress.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- The ability to differentiate learning for pupils with a wide range of abilities and additional needs.
- The ability to facilitate respectful discussion around sensitive and diverse topics.
- High expectations of pupils' achievement, behaviour and personal development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to inclusive education and improving outcomes for young people.
- A flexible, resilient and positive approach to teaching within an Alternative Provision environment.
- A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Experience of working within an Alternative Provision, specialist setting or with pupils with SEND or SEMH needs would be advantageous but is not essential.
