EVENTS AND PROMOTIONS LEAD / BAR SUPERVISOR
Soul Inah Bowl Karaoke Bar
Maypole Fields, Halesowen
Flexible part-time opportunity
Hourly pay plus event-based earning opportunities
ARE YOU SOMEONE WHO CAN BRING SOMETHING SPECIAL TO A VENUE?
Soul Inah Bowl is looking for a creative, commercially minded and responsible Events and Promotions Lead to help bring our unique microbar to life.
We are looking for someone to build an ongoing programme of events and promotions at Soul Inah Bowl. The role will begin with a small number of approved trial events, with the intention of developing this into regular, continuing work for the right person.
This is not an ordinary bar position where you simply arrive, serve drinks and wait for customers to come through the door.
We want someone with ideas, initiative and the confidence to create events, promote them successfully, attract customers and eventually manage approved events without the owners needing to be present.
ABOUT THE SPACE
The main opportunity is based within our small, intimate karaoke microbar, which can accommodate approximately 50 people.
The space could be used for karaoke nights, themed parties, birthday celebrations, live entertainment, comedy, quizzes, games nights, networking events, singles nights, creative workshops, community events, private parties or completely original concepts that we may not have considered.
We do not want to tell you exactly what events to put on. We want you to visit the venue, understand the space and tell us what you believe you could successfully create.
Our current licensed closing time is 11pm, so events should normally be planned around this. For selected events, there may be an opportunity to extend the closing time until 1am, subject to prior approval. Extended hours are not guaranteed and must be agreed before an event is advertised.
WHAT CAN YOU BRING TO SOUL INAH BOWL?
We want applicants to tell us:
- What type of events or promotions you would introduce
- Why your ideas would work within an intimate 50-person venue
- Who your target audience would be
- How you would promote the events and fill the space
- How many people you could realistically attract
- What ticket price you would recommend
- How frequently you would run your events
- What costs would be involved
- How your ideas would make money for both you and the venue
We are particularly interested in hearing about anything you have successfully organised before.
Please tell us:
- What events, parties or promotions you have previously worked on
- How many people attended
- How many tickets you sold
- What made the event successful
- Whether you have an existing local following or customer base
- How many social media followers you have and where they are based
- What level of engagement you receive
- Whether you have relationships with DJs, performers, hosts, businesses, community groups or other promoters
- Whether you can provide photographs, posters, videos or links from previous events
A large social media following can be helpful, but it is not essential. We are more interested in whether you can genuinely attract people, sell tickets, build relationships and turn a good idea into a successful event.
THE ROLE MAY INCLUDE
- Developing original event and promotional concepts
- Creating and maintaining an events calendar
- Promoting events through social media and local networks
- Selling tickets and monitoring bookings
- Hosting and managing events
- Serving customers and supervising the bar
- Managing performers, DJs, hosts and approved suppliers
- Preparing the venue before an event
- Cashing up and completing closing procedures
- Recording bar sales and completing stock checks
- Managing customers and responding appropriately to problems
- Protecting the reputation and standards of Soul Inah Bowl
- Running approved events responsibly without the owners needing to be present
- Reviewing attendance, sales and customer feedback after each event
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for someone who is:
- Creative, confident and full of practical ideas
- Commercially aware and able to understand event costs
- Reliable, trustworthy and responsible
- Comfortable promoting events online and in person
- Experienced in hospitality, events, nightlife, entertainment, promotions or community projects
- Capable of working independently after training
- Confident dealing with customers and unexpected situations
- Organised and able to account accurately for money
- Able to take an event from the initial idea through to delivery
- Connected to a local audience or confident in their ability to build one
Previous bar, event management or supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
A Personal Licence is desirable. Applicants without one should be willing to complete any necessary training or licensing requirements.
PAY AND EVENT EARNINGS
Hours worked will be paid at an agreed hourly rate.
There may also be opportunities to earn additional income through successful events, private bookings, ticket sales or a percentage of bar sales once an agreed target has been reached.
All arrangements will be discussed and agreed in advance.
STARTING WITH A TRIAL PERIOD
The successful applicant will initially develop and deliver a small number of approved trial events.
These trials are intended to establish a regular, ongoing programme. If the events are successful, we would like the successful applicant to continue working with us regularly, taking increasing responsibility for planning, promoting and managing events at the venue.
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
We also have a unique double-decker bus restaurant on the same site.
This position is primarily focused on developing events within the microbar. However, if you have an exceptional idea that could also involve the double-decker bus restaurant, we would be happy to hear it and may consider this separately.
HOW TO APPLY
Please do not send only a standard CV.
Your application should include:
- Your CV or a summary of your relevant experience
- Details of events or promotions you have previously worked on
- Your social media or promotional links, where relevant
- One event idea that you believe would work within our microbar
- How you would promote the event
- How many people you realistically believe you could attract
- Your suggested ticket price
- Your availability
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to visit Soul Inah Bowl, see the space and discuss their ideas with us in person.
We are providing the venue, the setting and the opportunity. We are looking for the right person to show us what they can create with it.
We are excited to hear your ideas and discover what you could bring to Soul Inah Bowl.
