Full job description

This is a sessional job. The jobholder will not be an employee of West Cumbria Domestic Violence Support but will be paid for hours worked according to an agreed contract.

SCOPE

Providing specialist support to children and young people (CYP) who are affected by domestic abuse within their home or family environment. This may include those who have witnessed abuse, those who have directly experienced it, or those who may be displaying harmful or abusive behaviours themselves. The role focuses on helping young people build coping strategies, emotional resilience, and healthy relationship skills so they can recover from the impact of abuse and move forward safely.

KEY REQUIReMENTS

Provide therapy for CYP and continuously conduct risk assessments throughout their journey.
Maintain a clinical caseload in collaboration with relevant referral agencies.
Maintain and develop collaborative links and networks with other organisations to ensure integrated responses, effective services, and improved coordination.
Work in a multi-agency setting if the family is involved with other services while strictly adhering to confidentiality policies.
Conduct evaluations to measure progress and the effectiveness of therapy.
Log sessions and brief notes onto the online database (DPMS) in a timely and professional manner.
Attend team meetings and case management sessions to ensure a coordinated approach to client care.
Engage in clinical supervision sessions as required.
Work in compliance with the BACP Code of Ethics or equivalent
Complete all administrative procedures and documentation required by WCDVS.
Uphold Health and Safety regulations, Child Protection and Safeguarding policies, and all organisational policies and procedures.
Provide regular feedback, identify service shortfalls, and report concerns to the Service Manager.
Undertake other duties as directed by the Service Manager or the Management Committee.
Work flexible hours as necessary.

CODE OF BEHAVIOUR, EQUALITY, HUMAN RESOURCES AND HEALTH AND SAFETY

Actively participate in a working environment, supporting quality human resource management practices:

Must always maintain strict confidentiality on all matters relating to issues arising from WCDVS client dealings and discussions. Through the standards set by the Code of Conduct, demonstrate workplace behaviours that are viewed as ethical and acceptable by management and staff.
Maintain effective working relationships with staff.
Actively identify and report all hazards so that preventative actions can be investigated and implemented to reduce risks.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

A counselling qualification at diploma level or equivalent
BACP/NCPS Membership
At least 2 years relevant experience in a counselling profession either paid or voluntary
Experience working with CYP
Knowledge and understanding of the effects and key issues surrounding domestic/sexual abuse
Up to date Safeguarding Training

SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE

To have a clear and coherent understanding and knowledge of child therapy, domestic abuse, childhood development, child protection, child mental health and other relevant areas
To understand developmental perspectives, both normal and psychopathological
Awareness of the link between child abuse and domestic abuse
Recognition of responsibilities within the Child Protection system

ADDITIONAL SPECIFICATIONS

Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically.
Ability to contribute to multi-agency reviews and discussions to maximise the best outcomes for the client
Ability to conduct assessments and evaluations in order to gather evidence that one-to-one sessions have made positive differences to the lives of CYP
Clear and concise written and spoken communication skills
Ability to present written information in a structured and balanced way appropriate to the needs of the reader.
To uphold and maintain non-discriminatory practice in therapy, grounded in awareness of equal opportunities legislation, policies and principles.
To maintain the confidentially and privacy required by clients and significant others; meeting both legal and ethical standards and therapeutic aims and goals
Ability to effectively manage time, priorities and resources
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team within the organisation and externally
Ability to work flexibly out of office hours if necessary
An enhanced DBS disclosure will be required
To carry out all continuous professional development required to maintain compliance with appropriate professional standards.
