Working Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Working Hours: 6am-2pm / 2pm -10pm Weekly rotation and flexibility is required
Responsible for: All packing shop floor staff on shift
Team: This role works in collaboration with other room supervisors and shift managers within the business
Absence clash: The production department supervisors will not clash with other department supervisors in the business on the applicable shift manager
Responsibility to: You are responsible to the Shift Manager

Background
Working for a successful, progressive and expanding company, the Production Department Supervisor will play a vital role in ensuring that operations run smoothly, meeting site standards and business goals.
The role requires experience in front line management and ideally in the food industry. Good experience in managing food safety, health and safety and good knowledge in continuous improvement. Strong people skills and the ability to delegate are key for this role.
Flavours Foods is a high-care food manufacturing business supplying the food-to-go, wholesale and catering markets. The company produces high-quality chilled products, including sandwich fillings, salads and marinated meats.
The production department is the area of the business that is responsible for the manufacturing of finished product recipes by combining and mixing raw materials whilst following pre defined recipes.
The department is manually led however more automation is developing within the business all the time
This role would suit someone who can work well within a team environment and has the skills to motivate and encourage a team to achieve the collective aims of the department / shift.
Responsibilities / Remit:
- High Care factory based roll
- To be a hands on supervisor to a team of 5-10 packing shop floor workers to ensure each days operating plans are completed whilst also ensuring all company polices / procedures are followed
- To motivate and allocate roles to production shop floor staff and ensure they are motivated to lead the team with a hands on approach
- Ensure the production department is running the most efficient way possible through allocating staff and scheduling machine operations accordingly
- To help to install KPI targets within your shift and introduce mechanisms to monitor their success and implement processes to address any under performance
- Be an advocate of continual improvement and look to coordinate with staff and review processes to ensure the operations runs as efficiently as possible
- Ensure all food safety, legality and quality systems, policies and procedures are enforced and adhered to. Ensuring a culture of right first time and not taking any shortcuts
- Ensure all paperwork and documentation is completed correctly and on time and any issues noted are addressed accordingly
- To be responsible for the safety of staff on your shift and their well being while on site
- Mentoring to production shop floor staff on company procedures, operational changes and / or policy updates
- To constantly challenge the norm and look at ways to improve performance of your shift in relation to operational needs, food safety processes and commercial impacts
- Monitor performance of team and offer suggestions and improvement plans where required
- Introduce and train / be the point of contact for new starters in the production department
- Give feedback on staff performance and training needs
- Observe yield loss procedures within your department and promote a low waste / give away procedure
Skills & Experience required:
- Previous experience in food manufacturing business within Operational and Production is essential. High Care Food environment is preferable
- A strong commitment to continual improvement and challenging the norm
- Key understanding of high care chilled food safety procedures
- Key understanding of HACCP and BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety
- Good communication skills, team player, ability to work individually when needed
- Strong management / supervisory skills and methods to motivate staff
- Excellent organisation and planning skills
- Good attitude and willingness to learn
- Very good attention to detail
- Being able to work unsupervised (after initial training)
- Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining quality and speed
Training and Qualifications – These are preferred however training can be given from within the company for those who do not have such experience as needed
