About the role

As part of the Library Management team at the flagship Oxford Westgate Library, you will assist the Group Library Manager in ensuring the library operates to the highest standards of customer service set by the Library Leadership Team, managing the resources of the library to meet all customer needs and applying all Oxfordshire County Council policies and procedures at a local level.

This role is one of a three-strong Library Manager team with specific lead responsibilities to maintain smooth operation of Oxford Westgate Library. The Library Manager - People, HR & Resourcing lead will provide lead support on people management within the library, ensuring high standards of performance, staff wellbeing, and customer service through effective line management, confident handling of in-person HR matters, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture, and managing recruitment activity.

About you

We’re looking for a confident and experienced leader who can bring a proven track record of managing teams in a busy, customer-focused environment, with the ability to set clear expectations, support development, and manage performance effectively. Just as importantly, you’ll be comfortable handling both performance and wellbeing matters face-to-face, doing so with confidence, professionalism and sensitivity. You’ll play a key role in building a positive, inclusive team culture, tackling difficult conversations constructively, and ensuring staff feel supported to deliver great services. With strong organisational skills and a proactive approach, you’ll help lead on recruitment while maintaining high standards and championing wellbeing, equality and continuous improvement.
