Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Gardener to oversee and execute a variety of horticultural and landscape maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will possess extensive gardening knowledge, practical skills with hand and power tools, and a passion for cultivating beautiful outdoor spaces. This role involves leading gardening projects, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the highest standards of landscape presentation are maintained. The Senior Gardener will play a vital role in maintaining the health and aesthetics of our gardens and green spaces, contributing to the overall visual appeal and environmental sustainability of our site.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise gardening and landscape maintenance activities, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised irrigation equipment to carry out planting, pruning, fertilising, watering, and soil preparation.
- Plan and implement garden layouts, plant selection, and seasonal planting schemes in accordance with horticultural best practices.
- Conduct regular inspections of green spaces to identify issues such as pests, diseases, or plant health concerns; implement appropriate solutions.
- Maintain detailed records of planting schedules, fertilisation regimes, pest control measures, and equipment maintenance.
- Mentor junior team members by providing guidance on horticultural techniques and safe tool handling.
- Ensure all landscape maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with clients or management to develop customised garden plans that meet aesthetic and environmental objectives.
- Assist in the organisation of specialised projects such as irrigation upgrades or landscape redesigns.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in gardening, horticulture, or landscape maintenance roles with a strong background in growing plants and managing green spaces.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, irrigation systems, and other gardening equipment.
- Demonstrable knowledge of plant care, soil management, pest control, and sustainable horticultural practices.
- Experience working with various plant species including trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan ahead for seasonal tasks.
- Excellent leadership qualities with experience mentoring or supervising team members.
- Relevant qualifications in horticulture or landscape management are desirable but not essential.
- A valid driving licence is preferred for transporting equipment or materials between sites. Pay: £30,000.00-£32,500.00 per year
