Are you calm under pressure, a natural communicator, and someone who thrives on keeping things moving smoothly? We’re looking for a reliable and customer-focused Dispatcher / Telephonist to join our busy taxi office.
The Role
You’ll be the vital link between our customers and drivers. Taking bookings, coordinating jobs, and ensuring passengers get where they need to go efficiently and safely. This is a fast-paced role that requires excellent multi-tasking, clear communication, and strong local knowledge.
Core responsibilities include:
- Answering incoming calls and taking accurate taxi bookings
- Dispatching drivers to jobs in real time using our booking system
- Planning and prioritising jobs to maximise efficiency
- Providing excellent customer service and handling enquiries or issues professionally
- Maintaining clear communication with drivers and the wider team
- Keeping accurate records and ensuring attention to detail at all times
What We’re Looking For
- Strong communication and people skills – you’ll be dealing with customers and drivers throughout your shift
- Ability to multi-task and stay organised in a busy environment
- Good planning and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
- Solid local knowledge (or a willingness to learn the area quickly)
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Computer literacy (comfortable using booking software, email, and standard office systems)
- Flexibility – shifts can cover 24-hour operations including weekends, though core daytime hours are required
- A positive, caring attitude that aligns with our company values
Previous experience in a dispatcher, telephonist, customer service, or similar fast-paced role would be an advantage, but the right attitude and skills matter most.
Hours & Pay
- 30 hours per week as a minimum, with opportunities for overtime
- Shifts available across days, evenings, nights and weekends
- Core daytime hours form the foundation of the role
- Competitive pay of £13 – £15.50 per hour, depending on experience
