Overview
Are you looking to make a real difference in the net zero agenda and climat emergency response? We have an opportunity for a project officer to join our flagship Carbon Removals team.

Company description:

One Carbon World is a carbon neutral not-for-profit organisation, selected as an observer organisation by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and we take part in UN Conferences around the world. We operate in 55 countries around the world and last year. We have two parts to our organisation, we help companies on their net zero journeys and support global nature based solutions.

As part of our portfolio of work, we provide customers with a high degree of transparency throughout the course of our business practices. All our Carbon Footprint and Green Asset Verification reports meet the requirements of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard and the IPCC Guidelines and are compatible with International Standards ISO 14064 and PAS 2060.

The right candidate will have good knowledge and understanding of:

● Climate change policy and international agreements

● Knowledge of decarbonisation and Nature-based Solutions initiatives

● Eminent scientific research, including (but not limited to) IPCC publications

Purpose of the role:

As Carbon Removals Project Officer you will play a key part in our mission to help companies and countries lower carbon emissions in pursuit of net zero. The role will coordinate the management and delivery of carbon removals projects and programmes in support of the Head of Carbon Removals.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams to assess and analyse data from a wide range of sources and support the development of recommendations for enhancing carbon removals via insetting and offsetting measures.

This is a dynamic and innovative role which will involve keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in scientific research and climate change policy in a fast-moving field. The postholder will oversee the implementation of Nature-based Solutions projects to ensure they facilitate carbon sequestration in line with SBTi and GHG Protocol requirements and support the achievement of shared sustainable development and Paris Agreement goals.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Project management and support – You will devise and deliver a range of carbon

removals projects, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring

deadlines and objectives are met, providing regular progress updates to the Head of

Carbon Removals and cross-functional teams.

2. Technical research – You will keep abreast on the latest developments in scientific

research, policy and accounting methodologies related to carbon removals and

climate change, including (but not limited to) SBTi, GHG Protocol, Intergovernmental

Panel on Climate Change research and publications.

3. Business development – You will design and initiate the development of innovative

solutions relating to insetting and nature-based solutions, helping others to establish

and deliver on FLAG, carbon removals and net zero targets.

4. Communication and engagement – You will work collaboratively with the Comms

team to prepare public and client-facing materials, providing technical support where

appropriate.

5. Data analysis and reporting – You will analyse and interpret complex datasets to

support the development of technical reports on carbon removals in line with

measurement, reporting and verification and SBTi requirements. You will utilise data

and research to assist in the creation of robust tools for ongoing management of data

to meet core quality assurance and compliance requirements.

6. Stakeholder engagement – You will support relationship management and

engagement with key stakeholders, coordinating with technical partners and local

experts, to support the implementation of our carbon removals projects.

7. Operational support – You will provide operational support to the Head of Carbon

Removals and wider team to ensure our projects are implemented effectively, and

meetings with stakeholders and clients are managed efficiently.

Skills and experience - Essential:

● Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental or Energy Economics,

Environmental Policy, Supply Chain Sustainability or related area required

● Good understanding of climate change science, greenhouse gas accounting

standards, and sustainability principles, including frameworks such as SBTi and GHG

Protocol

● Ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and in different cultural

contexts and virtual team structures

● Excellent analytical skills -ability to communicate complex concepts clearly, both

orally and in writing, with fluency in English

● Excellent communications and engagement skills to support the media and

stakeholder engagement

● Self-starter: Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and problem

solve.

Skills and experience - Desirable:

● Experience in carbon management and reporting, in line with standard accounting

frameworks

● Project Management qualification (eg. PRINCE2)

● Membership of a relevant professional body (eg. IES or IEMA)

● Experience of managing and delivering climate change-related projects
