About BIOVIT
BIOVIT is the natural vitamin and mineral ingredients company on a mission to improve the health of people and the planet through the use of natural vitamins and minerals. Our ingredients are all derived from organically grown plants, fungi, and algae, and we work with brands of all sizes to bring natural nutrition into their products.
Backed by UK Government support and working alongside world-class technical partners (including RSSL, Campden BRI, and Eurofins) and academic collaborators (Swansea University and Doncaster NHS Trust), we are building the evidence base for natural nutrition while delivering real commercial impact for our customers.
The Role
As Technical & Quality Lead you will be a pivotal member of the BIOVIT team, combining nutrition science expertise with quality and compliance ownership. This is a broad, high-impact position split across three interconnected areas – nutrition expertise, quality & compliance, and customer facing responsibilities as our main technical voice.
You will act as BIOVIT’s internal nutrition authority, guide customers through NPD briefs, own the quality and compliance of everything that leaves our business – from raw materials through to finished products – and work shoulder to shoulder with our Sales Lead to win and grow accounts. It is a role for an energetic, exceptionally organised person who thrives in a fast-paced, varied start-up where no two days are the same.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Expert
Nutrition / Product Formulations
- Respond to NPD briefs, covering nutrition formulations, ingredient decisions, compliant labelling, and pricing considerations.
- Manage stability and shelf-life projects with technical partners, including RSSL, Campden BRI, and Eurofins – taking them from feasibility through to translating nutrition data into practical guidance for formulation development.
- Act as BIOVIT’s internal regulatory authority on health and nutrient claims, nutrition labelling, and novel foods.
Technical Consultancy & Communications
- Serve as BIOVIT’s in-house nutrition / technical expert, providing science-led guidance across all new product development (NPD) and innovation projects.
- Support BIOVIT’s academic research programmes (including with Swansea University and Doncaster NHS Trust) on bioavailability and circular ingredient development.
- Contribute towards content for internal and external audiences: webinars, written guides, and presentations.
- Represent BIOVIT at conferences, industry events, and client meetings.
2. Quality & Compliance Manager
Food Safety, BRCGS & Quality Systems
- Own and maintain BIOVIT’s food safety management system, aligned to the BRCGS Global Standard, and manage BIOVIT’s BRCGS certification process through to award and ongoing maintenance – working alongside the certified manufacturing operation at our co-manufacturer, Plant-Ex.
- Develop and maintain HACCP plans and risk assessments, run internal audits, manage non-conformances and corrective actions (CAPA), and prepare for and host third-party and customer audits.
- Create, own and maintain the BIOVIT quality manual and all associated documents, keeping them current, audit-ready and fit for purpose.
- Maintain BIOVIT’s wider certifications and declarations – Organic, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Halal, Kosher and FDA registration – and the supporting document library.
- Manage supplier / quality onboarding for new customers, including responding to all inbound due-diligence, quality and “new supplier” onboarding queries.
Raw Materials & Suppliers
- Manage BIOVIT’s raw material (RM) stock, including stock checks, forecasting stock changes, and planning RM orders.
- Manage the end-to-end ordering process for RMs – communications with suppliers and import agencies, and all associated documentation.
- Vet, approve and monitor BIOVIT’s ingredient suppliers – supplier questionnaires, certification checks, risk assessment, approval and ongoing review.
- Implement and own the BIOVIT quality control procedure for raw materials, ensuring every ingredient is safe and compliant – covering contaminants and heavy metals, microbiology, allergens, and pesticide residues.
- Manage the ingredient testing programme with accredited laboratories (e.g. Eurofins), including assay testing to verify that each ingredient delivers its declared vitamin and mineral levels.
Finished Products
- Coordinate finished product ordering at co-manufacturing site.
- Manage all finished product documentation – specifications, CoAs, MSDS, and TDS – ensuring nutritional integrity and full compliance with supplier and traceability standards.
Organic Certification
- Manage BIOVIT’s organic certification processes (Soil Association / OFF, GB-ORG-05), covering both incoming raw materials and outgoing finished products.
- Maintain and manage key documentation for importing and exporting organic products via the TRACES NT portal, including raising and managing Certificates of Inspection (COIs).
3. Sales Support
- Work as an active part of the sales process, alongside the Sales Lead, to answer technical questions and be a reassuring specialist within a complicated regulatory landscape.
- Act as the key technical and nutrition contact for new and existing customers, building trusted relationships and providing responsive, expert support.
- Own incoming NPD briefs end to end, from brief to delivery (as outlined in the Nutrition section above).
- Contribute to customer presentations, pitches and industry events, bringing the nutrition credibility and technical depth that helps convert and retain customers.
Requirements
- Nutrition / technical background.
- Working knowledge of BRCGS (or an equivalent GFSI standard) and HACCP.
- Hands-on experience with quality control processes, supplier approval and stock management.
- 2–3 years of experience in a nutrition, food, or ingredients company.
- Exceptionally well organised, with strong time-management skills and the ability to juggle multiple workstreams at once.
- Confident in presenting and representing BIOVIT externally at events, pitches and client meetings.
- Energy and motivation to be part of, and contribute to, a growing business.
- Resilience and flexibility when priorities shift.
- Willingness to get stuck in across all tasks in a busy, dynamic start-up environment.
