I am applying for this post because I believe I have the attributes that will help me make a difference in patients’ lives not just caring for the physical aspects, but also the social, mental and emotional needs. I have consistently worked as a Healthcare Assistant in a varied Healthcare environment for the past decade including Hospitals, Hospice, Secure units, Community, Nursing and Residential Homes, whilst also studying at the same time. I find working with vulnerable adults, particularly elderly mentally ill patients quite enjoyable and interesting. My working experience in the healthcare industry as well as the time I spent studying in the university, has enabled me to develop certain skills. 


In some of my course modules (both at BSc and MSc levels), I was involved in a team work in which various task were given to us to carry out as a group. Each members of the group had series of meetings to discuss how our task would be completed. Various roles and tasks were assigned amongst us, in order for our goals to be successfully accomplished. In addition, I was able to work independently with minimal assistance, and guidance from my Project supervisor, during my research project in which an independent study was carried out by me and findings of the study was published in a book. I was able to prioritise my work, in order to meet tight deadlines. 


Furthermore, the time spent in the University afforded me the opportunity to develop good communication skills. I was able to review several literatures, using appropriate referencing and referencing techniques to support my findings. I was also able to verbally interact with fellow students and lecturers during lectures, practicals, tutorials and Powerpoint presentations. Similarly, I have had the opportunity to communicate and interact with various  people including patients, patients' relatives and other multidisciplinary team. I document care plans, and do both verbal and written handover to the incoming members of staff to keep them abreast of the day's activities. I also make and receive telephone calls to both patients' relatives and various healthcare professionals.


I sometimes work as a Senior Care Worker, overseeing and being accountable to the well-being of up to about 20 vulnerable adults in Residential Care Homes. I adhere strictly to the confidentiality of my patients at all times. I assign task to various members of staff, and also help in the administration of medications, whilst remaining focus in the process, as any serious mistake can be detrimental to my patients' health. I carry out some observations on my patients including taking of blood pressure, temperature and oxygen saturation; any major health concern and  changes to my patients' health is reported to a more qualified healthcare professionals or my Line Manager for advice. Also, my working experience has helped me to be flexible, as some members of staff phone in sick at a very short notice, which may lead to staff shortage. This sometimes require making an arrangement for such shifts to be covered, and sometimes staying beyond my scheduled working hours until a cover has been made.

I have recently returned to Ambition following a two year break, having originally worked with them for some eleven years.  I returned as they needed staff for ED at Rotherham Hospital; however unfortunately the hours have recently dropped off. 

I have been a full time agency nurse for approximately fifteen years. 

Having had pretty much unlimited work throughout my first stint with Ambition, I am now struggling to get even 20 hours most weeks.  This is not a reflection on the agency however; since the pay capping 'crisis' I believe most of the higher paying agencies have struggled to some extent.  Certainly Ambition was a victim, which was the reason I had to leave. I feel also that being in the North of England hinders opportunities somewhat - up until my return six weeks ago I was based in the South East of England where I had plenty of work. 

However I do believe they work very hard to obtain as much work as possible.  My booking consultants from both past and present have been absolutely fantastic - they genuinely seem to care and both did / do their upmost to look after their staff.

The agency have also been known to reduce their rates but without reducing ours, in order to secure work which is an absolute anomaly with agencies. It would be so beneficial if they considered doing it more often however, at least up North, to attract more clients.

I signed up with the a24 group after being recommended by another one of their staff. After a long 5months process I received my first assignment. I covered a shift with one of the agencies of the a24 group (grosvenor nursing). This was a self booked shift to which I informed the agency about. After not paying me for the hours I work, I informed them.. but each time received the same answer that I should have informed them sooner (which I did on the day I covered the shift) it has now taken 4 weeks and I am still now paid. I called in only to have the manager say that it’s my fault and that he is contacting the hospital. After calling the hospital myself, I was informed that they had sent out the shift to the agency for them to book me in order to complete my pay. However the shift hasn’t been booked from the agency’s end which has delayed my pay. This shows that (grosvenor nursing) did not follow up on my shift which has delayed my pay. I would not recommend this agency to anyone as the don’t follow up on their employees and will find ways to put blame for something they should have done themselves. A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND EFFORT.

The must stressful part working as a Support Worker at A24Group is the process where service users refused support as a resource of being confused and frustrated and worried but after been persuaded everyone is at peace.

Challenging but purposeful and goals achieved.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The company offers flexibility and choice to choose when and where we want to work . They value their temps, the recruitment team are very polite and personable, always pay on time and even contact you when you’ve forgotten to submit your timesheets in time. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of working is when you let your certificates lapse and then you have to go through their rigorous vetting and validating your certificates which may take months. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They have an inclusive culture and believe in delivering the highest quality of care through their temps. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day involves working with the clients needs , this could be a care home or supported living. We have to be adaptable and be willing to take instructions from core staff.

I am a care in a large cooperation.  I spent my time giving care with people with varying health problems.  During the time that I have been engaged in this type of employment I have dedicated a lot of time and effort to use the skills that I have gained to try to work effectively for the improvement of their health and maximising their potential where possible.

I have enjoyed communication and participation with clients and families alike and I have gained enormously from working as part of a team. There are some elements of the job which maybe frustrating and beyond our control but job satisfaction often out ways the hardships endured.

The clientele list is very low for A24 group. The only way you will receive regular bookings is if you find a home care package to work with. Alternatively, you find a care home you can do shifts with. The compliance requirements to work for a hospital is very strict and requires everything a nurse would need from all your boosters and immunisation’s, BCG scar certificate, and to be a carer you need to privately book your own basic life and manual handling training in London which comes up to a total of 60£ excluding your train fares which they won’t reimburse you for. At the moment I would not register with them as there is no work at all. The software for their booking system is great and you can update your availability on the app, weekly pay too. 

I administer medication after handover and dress or redress and wounds that are due and at times catheterise.
I have learnt to be a good listener and also have good observation skills looking out for non verbal clues regarding a patients condition.
Time management is very important especially so in acute areas so as to carry out my work load in time.
Managing and working well with co-workers is part of good team work and makes my job easier and more enjoyable.
The hardest part of my job is knowing that some patients and residents will not make it and yet i have to carry on and look after others.
The most enjoyable part of my job is knowing that i am helping people who need my help and seeing them  appreciating it.

No action or accountability for head office staff based in South Africa .

Expected to just get on with it.

Toxic and expectation to put the company first at all times. 
Even when on leave you will get called to do a shift and then they try to pressure you Into taking it

Busy, but can be great with permant staff and clients being amazing

Better recognition, pay for some Agencies is better than the others and shift availability is a 50/50

Going long distances without being paid mileage

Like anywhere else. There is nothing to pick out as there are no four walls to any worker

I don’t work at the company but at the different places l will be placed for work on a shift by shift basis
