Overall I did not enjoy working for Akari Care. However, this may be more to do with the care home I worked at rather than the company. 

There was a lot of hostility between different staff members at the care home I was at which made it more difficult to work and also less enjoyable. It was clear that certain staff did not get on with each other and on one occasion 2 staff members starting arguing and shouting at one another in the middle of the lounge in front of residents and visitors. Most times I did not feel supported by other staff members and if I asked for help I often felt like I was a burden. As someone who already suffers from anxiety, working here dramatically increased it and I had to leave this position due to the effects it was having on my mental health.

It is definitely not an easy role and the lack of community and friendliness between staff made it a lot more difficult. It was clear that the majority of staff had lost their passion for their job. There are plenty of other types of jobs with similar if not better pay so if you are not passionate I think it is not fair to the residents to actually work in a care home. I really believe I would have enjoyed working here so much more if the work environment was more friendly. 

Also, there was a lot to do each day and not enough staff to do it all. Often the residents were rushed to get up in the morning or rushed off to bed due to management putting pressure on carers to have so much done by a certain time. This is not fair to the residents or at all right. To me it is rude to have to rush with each resident and I think its more respectful to take time delivering personal care.  Akari care has policies for the number of staff required for the amount of residents in the home however, I think this seriously needs to be reviewed as there was too much to do for the amount of staff Akari care policies allowed. Furthermore, these policies do not take into account the individual needs of the residents. Due to several residents being in hospital, the number of care assistants were reduced however, the remaining residents had more complex needs than those in the hospital. So this actually increased the workload we all had to do. 

The one thing I can say that was good was the amount of training I had when I started the role. I had 3 shifts where I shadowed another care assistant which I found really useful and there was a lot of online training and in person training sessions. 


You'll find when you first start everyone will love you they will all want you on side, they will want you doing anything and everything for them as soon as you don't do something that's what the daggers will start hitting your back.. if you have any complaints I wouldn't bother they don't get acted up on. If you know the right people you can clearly get away with anything and everything. The manager will try to support you as much as she can but other people will go against you or will stir as much up as they can. Management higher than the home don't actually care as long as they're getting paid, there is no support there is no compassion for mental health issues being caused by the working environment. You will just be a number here. The residents are absolutely amazing and deserve so much better than being here. Some of the staff are fantastic and will always go above and beyond others well, just imagine. The place is over run by agency staff they have you working ridiculously short staffed so the residents are not getting the care they deserve. There are too many chiefs here they all like to think they're in charge of running the home. You will be told one thing by management then seniors will be telling you something else and you'll be expected to do what the seniors tell you to otherwise they make your day hellish. 
Mental health support is none existent not only in the home but from the company as a whole. All you will be seen as is a number so if you want a good working environment a happy working place and somewhere the residents will receive the care they require and deserve I suggest you to not apply for a job here. If you would like to be treated like absolute rubbish for your entire working day then I recommend the place to you.


What is the best part of working at the company?
None no support by area manager are home manager don’t take anything into consideration they listen to false allegations and never support the employee asked to help them out and never a thank you no help what so ever they look after themselves they have no compassion for the residents as long as there in the clear if anything goes wrong they blame someone are somebody to pin the blame on I think the management Need a complete overhaul and Human Resources people are being finished who have been there for years and helped them in such away they get rewarded by false statements and allegations that are not true and I feel so sorry for a individual who bent over backwards and give a 100% at all times and was finished because of false allegations but no one in management supported this individual and what an asset he was to this organisation Akari care

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Terrible management are not interested all there interested in is policy and procedures and as long as there ok they don’t care about anything else they don’t support there employees they listen to residents families and point the finger to the individual who the can blame 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Bad management are terrible to work for making managers up that have no experience at all

Firstly, the positives: The staff are lovely and very hardworking, and of course the residents are all adorable, and the place is quite 'homely'. There are opportunities for training and regular 'in-house' training sessions, which people are expected to come in on their days off for. That is where the good news ends.
The working day is very fast-paced and despite the reported use of some 'dependancy tool' to indicate staffing required, it is just generally poorly staffed to do any more than just meet the basic care needs of the residents, which causes frustration and upset amongst the staff as everyone wants to do more for the residents. The professional aspects of the job will come as a surprise to any nurse who has worked in the NHS and is used to record-keeping that would be acceptable in court. Despite espousing care as being 'person-centred', it is actually routine-based generally speaking, and often information seems to be collated in order to meet CQC requirements, rather than to inform the care of the individual. The organisational management structure is odd and remote, and you may end up trying to explain clinical concerns to a person with clearly no clinical background. The NMC code of conduct is integral to all practice for a qualified nurse; remember this is if you choose to work here.

Akari is by far the most disgusting and vile company I have ever worked for. The management are clueless and brainless. They lack in support to their staff. The seniors act like they're management, as well as one in particular is an absolute bully, targeting care staff each shift, so they're reduced to tears and either walk out or quit. Making them feel worthless and low, to the point of seeking medical help for depression, also making medication errors in order to bite at the care staff and interfere in their duties. 
The care staff are all very clicky, and don't care about the residents needs. As long as they can go outside for a smoke. The backstabbing and bullying is vile.
The kitchen always run out of essentials for the residents, such as cordial juice, bread, milk, ((ensuring having to make powdered milk)) coffee, and then there's certain meals they can't buy enough stock in for, such as bacon sandwiches, not all residents can have it, as there's never enough. 
As for the care itself, I wouldn't admit a dying pigeon, never mind a relative to this home! Paperwork is always so much more important than the care itself, CQC would have an absolute field day here, as would adult safeguarding.

i work within a care home on night shift 
i assist people with eating and drinking before assisting them to bed and making them comfortable. When they are asleep i then am required to do light domestic duties such as hovering cleaning the dining room and both lounges and toilets. i am also required to do spot checks to make sure residents are ok and then i do paper work towards the end of the shift before i assist them to get up in the morning and into the lounge safely ready for morning staff.
i have learned many skills and i think the most important one is how valuable family is. The new management is friendly and upbeat and is easly aprocable. the hardest part about this job is when residents pass away,we dress and clean the residents before family members come and say there last goodbye and after they have been a resident so long they become apart of the place and are deeply missed. 
the most enjoyable part about this job is seeing the residents faces happy and seeing a smile upon there faces also getting to know the families.

A typical day at work as expected in the care sector is always busy and stressful, however also rewarding. Akari Care gives you a lot of opportunities to progress and step up the ladder however it’s not always as rewarding as the company makes out to be. There are times where you’re running on your last legs and are doing jobs that aren’t part of your paid role but my manager didn’t even acknowledge it or give me a simple thank you, which sometimes can make even the worst day a little bit better. The company talks about values however in certain homes it’s favouritism and only those are the ones that are valued because it depends how close you get with your manager not how good you are with your job. I would suggest that when you’re working within the company stick to your role and your responsibilities and don’t offer to do more than your role requires you to do because the chances that you’ll be thanked are very low but you’ll be taken advantage off and they will expect you to do it all of the time even though it’s not part of your job description.

I gnore your contract, it’s irrelevant. You will do what you are told when you are told. And if you haven’t been told then that’s your fault anyway. Your performance must always be good, you will not be told what is expected of you though. There are no pay or progression scales, you will be told you must keep yours a secret (which is not enforceable by law). If an individual does something wrong this is enforced upon everyone rather than dealing with the individual. If you question something, you will be made an example of. As a Manager I must not manage my team, I must receive triple authorisation up the ladder - everything must be cleared with the CEO. This, by the way, probably allows anyone to win a tribunal if they needed to as they have no right to appeal when a decision was made by the CEO then no one higher can see that appeal. Having said all that if you are among the elite, it’s all rosey. You can do what you want, when you want, how you want, to whoever you want. Elite selection is as pay and bonuses, CEO authorisation only.

I joined Akari after several decades within the NHS, working through the NHS roles from staff nurse to senior manager with more and more being expected with little thanks, feeling undervalued and exhausted and frustrated at not being able to deliver high quality care.
Akari has relit my passion for care of the elderly giving 100% support to my changes and ideas. We are in regular contact with a very hands on and nurturing CEO . I have a good relationship with a positive and enthusiastic Regional Manager who shares my vision for excellent quality outcomes.
 I have felt welcomed, valued and inspired.I can not recommend the company enough if you are jaded within your current management role.
Budgets, KPIs, Governance, Valued Staff is the same wherever you work as Akari is a business but the Residents are at the core of everything closely followed by the staff who are like a family.

Such a shame , but management are laughable they will make up false stories to get you sacked , home manager laughs at you if you go to her for a problem , residents deserve a nice peaceful caring environment and they just do not get that due to 
Management not caring 1 bit , stay away from this company, work wise and do not choose these homes for your family 
If your face doesn’t fit you will be out quicker then you got in and yes even if your good at your job 
You’ve got a better chance of staying the worst you are so I’d advise you to not come in and when you do just come in and leave at what ever time you want. 
Take as many breaks and smoking breaks as you want 
Don’t be good at your job as your better thought of 
But if your a genuine caring person don’t come here it’s too upsetting to watch the residents suffer 
The bitchiness is unbelievable they will turn on you faster then the speed of sound
