Anglian Water Services Ltd

Currently I am employed by Anglian Water as a Weddings and Events Coordinator for the unique and historic venue Normanton Church at Rutland Water.
Working at Normanton Church, I am the first point of contact for a variety of people from wedding couples and registrars to venue dressers and liaise regularly with all those involved in planned events to ensure their flawless orchestration. Organising several ‘Wedding Venue Open Days’ to promote the venue, I met and spoke directly to potential couples attracted by the venue.
I designing associated literature such as articles for local area magazines like ‘The Scene’ and created our Wedding brochure. I then maintained regular contact through personally updating media such as Facebook, frequent emails and strict database upkeep.
Working for a venue saturated in history, I designed an historical presentation to be shown explaining the areas past in order to develop and deliver an enriching and exciting experience to the members of public who visit. I also introduced musical evenings to ensure the venue was used to its full, and varied, potential and devised a timetable with a local art teacher who hires the venue out for art classes.
As Weddings & Events Coordinator for Normanton Church I have expanded my experience of events to encompass weddings, baby naming ceremonies, concerts and historical talks as well as assisting with other events such as Christmas Fairs and the Olympic Torch Event.
Anglian Water Recreational department is a rewarding team to be a part of, with team members working both as a collective unit and individually to strive for the best results.
I welcome the challenge every day has to offer in this fast paced environment. However the limited hours (and as a result the limited pay) has been an issue to over come.
The most enjoyable part of my job is most definitely meeting new people. No wedding has been the same, the dress, the decor, the transport, the music - all different. The exciting opoortunity to build the weddings and events business for the venue has also been amazing.

I genuinely love my role and the team I work with. Colleagues are friendly and I enjoy learning something new every day. It's rewarding to feel like I am making a difference. The company is also fantastic when it comes to mental health and wellbeing, and the private healthcare benefit has been a real game changer for me. 

I really value the flexibility - being able to work from home, having a schedule that (most of the time) fits well around my family life, and knowing that there are development plans in place that I can complete myself within my current job role for when I am ready to progress further in the company when the time comes is an added bonus. 

On the downside this is a very fast paced role which I love but it entails a lot of hard work and I do feel I am one of the colleagues that goes above and beyond to help and ensure things get done, I do feel the pay doesn't always reflect the workload, especially when moving into a more demanding roles. Personally, I find myself taking on a lot, and yet my salary is very similar to when I was in the call centre - despite the responsibilities being greater now. I think this is one if the main reasons for staff turnover in this particular role. 

That being said, I love my job and plan to stay with Anglian Water because the company values, work ethic, and the way staff are treated are excellent. I just hope the pay progression catches up with the workload in the future.  

I worked for many years at two World class companies and I joined this shambles of a company some time ago...Through no fault of my own I was unable to carry out certain duties and I tried to negotiate with the Personnel Dept. to get around the problem...A settlement was virtually imposed on me,my so called manager and HR were determined to impose their will and not come up with a satisfactory outcome, resulting in my leaving this "cowboy outfit".At that time the company slogan was,"Our people are our best assets",slogans were the order of the day and they remain so,,a pity they are just part of the brainwashing process and are meaningless drivel...actions speak louder than words.

I am still in touch with ex-workmates and without exception they detest this excuse of a company and cannot wait to leave or retire.Leave must be booked months in advance,their work in driven by a useless computer system and they can be called out for hours and left to solve some highly technical problem without any back-up or support.The management of sickness absence is an insult to hard working ,loyal employees...Genuine absences are treated with disdain and people are offered a "Three day course" to show them the error of their ways,shades of North Korean "re-education" courses.

They pay lip-service to the life-work balance but I can assure you that it is highly biased in a certain direction...do not expect any help or sympathy if you have any problems at  home, you will just be ignored and expected to tow the company line..AW just want obedient robots in their big-brother world.I expect in the near future some creep of a "Manager" will compose a company song-to be sung every day before work begins..........

If you wish to work for a company that treats its employees so dreadfully,are a "yes man", and want to work all hours for little  recognition or reward, then this is your company,good luck-you will need it!

For such a large company you would be right to expect a well organised company.

This is far from the reality. They are only interested in covering themselves. The communication, organisation and planning is some of the worst I have ever come across.
 
Management is a joke, the higher up you go, the worse they get, only interested in feathering their own nests. The sites you visit are hazardous on their own, run down, overgrown and certainly many are not suitable for HGV's. Equipment on sites is failing, no facilities on many, no running water to wash down or even a toilet! Yes Anglian Water have no water on site!!!! The company won't invest anything and it gets worse week by week.

The nature of the job makes it dirty, smelly and unpleasant, especially in the summer months. Transporting sewage and often having to walk through it due to poor maintenance and lack of facilities.
The shift pattern is horrendous, early starts and very odd working pattern, leaving you feeling tired all the time. 
The salary on offer is a smoke screen to entice new drivers, if you are daft enough to contemplate working for AW, get a good clear understanding of what exactly you will get.
Bonus is there, BUT you cannot have a single day off sick without this being taken away or part of it, Doesn't matter if you are signed off by a GP rather than having a hangover, bonus has gone! So much for a company who allegedly cares for your welfare. They are almost encouraging drivers to work unwell so they don't lose the bonus. 
Damage the truck from THEIR overgrown site access and YOU lose your bonus.
 
If you have no backbone, happy to be pushed about, disturbed on your days off, work Xmas day and New Years day then join up!

If you value a work life balance, want to spend the important days with your loved ones, not go home smelling of sewage then stick to RDC work.

 All the team leaders are inconsistent and you rarely get a one to one, and when you do they don’t check anything and say your hitting your KPI’s then in the quarterly check they say you haven’t hit anything and put you on a plan. Bad communication skills. 
management flaunt covid rules, staff get warnings about car sharing but management all squeezed in one tiny office which apparently ‘no more than two allowed to allow social distancing’ whether they are in the same bubble or not is irrelevant as family should not be coming in the office it is unprofessional.


Shifts are advertised as flexible but if you work from home they put you in every weekend. NO WORK LIFE BALANCE 

Most staff not recognised for their skills and also a lot of favouritism over who gets offline work. Brings down the morale in the call centre. 

They attempt to bring in groups of new starters. Only half turn up and the other half don’t stay past probation due to no support during the mentoring process. Many new starters are there less than 6 months and end up off sick with depression due to how much of a negative effect the company and job has on them. 
That is some of the factors why I would not recommend this job. 

Too scared to take time off work due to how they treat you, sitting at work in physical pain and no alternative is offered to the staff from the Team Leaders. No sympathy. They emphasise they are a company that cares about mental health but this is not the case. 

Awful company to work for and there is only a handful of people who last over a year and even then the long timers have now started to leave. 
No progression - roles are advertised but again they are given to the favourites in the company.



The management of Anglian Water have no clue as to how to run a company, they currently run the place on threats and fear to there employees.
They seem to think that they own you (like a slave) and can make you do whatever they want at a drop of a hat.  There is absolutely no work life balance.  You are expected to take part in standby every 4 weeks, paid at single time to midnight and only x1.5 after midnight, when that is clearly unsociable hours, soon they will be making certain parts of the company work 8 hours on a Saturday so that they don't have to pay overtime for those hours.
All the company is about is cost cutting, they wont even maintain critical plant to the correct standard, so a lot of assets fail, everything is run on a shoe string.
Senior management have no clue what actually happens at ground floor level, they only get told what they want to hear, not what is actually happening. 
They are very quick to jump on you for one small mistake Anglian Water love to discipline people, they think it makes them look good. Yet when you do good thing for them the hardly even acknowledge that have done it.
There is a massive divide between office staff and ground floor staff (the ones who keep the place running and everyone in a office a job). Many of them have no clue what we do on a daily basis, and this becomes extremely clear when they try to implement new ideas that have been thought of, when it is briefed to ground floor staff they are usually ripped apart as what they think can be done is almost impossible to achieve. 
The only part of my job I enjoy is having a good laugh with the lads, there are no other good parts, this is why I am looking to leave the company asap.

A typical day at work requires 7.4 hours of work and you are required to take a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. There are different contracts with different working hours. mine had a working window between 7:30 am and 6 pm to do these hours between. this took 50 hours of childcare a week for the first five years of my child’s life and the childcare alone cost me £50,000 over that time. But if you work full time that does leave enough left over after childcare costs to live off. Then there is commuting cost to get there as well as obviously food and rent out of what’s left of your wages. There is another gottcha too. I was required to learn to drive and buy a car all at my own expense in order for Anglian Water to employ me. at first they paid me 45p a mile for all my business journeys so I started to recoup the cost of the lessons and car to start with. However they then introduced a number of punitive measures such as not being able to park on site, not allowing working hours to match public transport hours. plus they reduced the mileage rate to 35p  - and I had to do the first 45 miles at my own cost, so the 35p kicks in at the 46th mile I did for their business. With bad traffic I could travel 1 mile for an hour and get paid either nothing if it’s within the first 45 miles or 35p for it. A regular  journey I was required to undertake was a 90 mile return trip, so I was paid nothing all the way there and 35p a mile to come home. The culture is appalling. there is essentially a large number of white middle-class men pleasuring themselves at Company’s expense. The hardest part of the job is putting up with these people. The most enjoyable part of the job is getting paid.

Worst company I have ever had the displeasure in working for.

You start off on 'annualised hours' which means working 10hours days 5days a week and also working a Saturday.
No work/life balance at all. 

If you want a weeks holiday you have to book a YEAR in advance, and even then you will be lucky to get it!

If you owe them hours THEY dictate to you when you have to make the time up and don't bother checking if your available to do this! Not good when your a single parent!

Your Expected to stay past 8pm to clear the queue when calls are queuing past closing, yet don't get time back for this or get extra pay. 

60+ Unhappy staff squashed into a PORTAKABIN! 

Sickness policy is a joke.

Management are horrendous, team leaders run around after the call centre manager who sits in her office all day and never interacts or speaks with her staff. She is an extremely rude, unfriendly person. I'd worked there around 6 months before she spoke to me.

'Regular 1-2-1's' when your team leader can be bothered with you, picked fault after fault with your KPI's and don't offer any help to improve. You get put on an action plan, then your out the door 

If your related to the call centre manager you will have no problems working here! If not, keep your head down and pray your face fits. 

Nepotism at it's finest!

KPI targets goal posts are changed all the time. They will do anything to make sure you DON'T achieve your bonus. 

The Management obviously know how bad it is to work here as they feel the need to put false reviews on here! Review saying the place is 'brilliant' is an internal review!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Many people start their Anglian careers in collections and so this job is the bottom of the heap. Most people leave for other areas or companies within a few months because they resent the poor treatment they receive in this role. If you have been here for a year, the chances are you will be one of the longest serving employees. I estimate turnover to be around 60%. Low wages, a stressful job dealing with upset customers, poor shift patterns that affect work life balance are all the norm. 
Promotion is a lottery; some people are promoted before even passing probation which is unfair on those who do the right thing but are left languishing at the bottom watching others around them earning more for less intense work. 
Micro-management is part of the culture; you are managed to the minute and are penalised if you get sick and need time off.. This leads to unwell employees attending site and making others ill. 

This is a skilled job requiring a lot of intelligence and emotional maturity; it takes 8 weeks of training to learn just the basics of the job - but you will be paid less than most retail or factory workers. Bonus structure is unrealistic so if you get one it will be by luck rather than because of your effort

Inter-departmental co-operation is minimal with a sloping shoulder culture where customer service takes second place to  covering one’s back. 

I was recommended Anglian Water as a great place to work. In many departments, it probably is - but not in this one. Morale is rock-bottom and most people are looking for a way out - either internally or externally. 

Working within Lincolnshire as a trainer the job spec was soon expanded to become unrealistic within the time frames expected. Because of the varying levels of Management and reporting structure you are always been pulled in a dozen directions. Uncooperative with decision making process petty arguments between managers that would drag on for months then expect the workforce to pick up the gauntlet and save the day without thanks. There is a Bonus scheme for drivers but DONT expect to achieve it unless you are a blue eyed boy as the criteria is unbelievable and the figures are massaged in such a way towards RTS that the drivers don't expect that they will receive the bonus even with a clean record. The Top man is often saying moral is not needed JUST DO THE JOB says everything about the man really. The company will do every thing in its power to stop any bad press/court cases even when they have damaged a person to such an extent that that person can no longer work, usual tricks drag the case on for years and lose evidence call them whilst on the sick pressurising them back to work ect. I WOULD NOT RECOMENT RTS ANGLIAN WATER AS A PLACE TO WORK.
On top of all that I met and dealt with some really good people, The management at RTS do not realise that they have some of the hardest working work force in the country if they were to communicate and get co-ordinated RTS would be in trouble.
