Worked for this company for a number of years, the initial training was extensive - for which I was glad of once I got on the phones as it was quite daunting to start with. This really was beneficial and I always felt I had support from colleagues and my designated team leader. The sales floor was separated into smaller teams and I honestly enjoyed working alongside my fellow team members. It's a busy sales environment, so if you're an experienced sales person with a drive to closing the sale you'll do really well here. You'll earn a fixed commission per passenger booked, but also worth mentioning some of the cruise lines also had promotional incentives, some of these were VERY generous (free cruises, vouchers, ipads etc). I've been lucky to have travelled extensively during my time here. You will be set a sales target, as in any sales role. No cold-calling though mostly good leads incoming.
 
Nice modern office environment with good staff kitchen & internet cafe, free parking and close to the motorway. Family-run business with family members (Directors) closely involved with the day-to-day running. Separate admin team to support sales team. If you like sales and like travelling you'll be given the tools to do well here.   


Working at Bolsover Cruise Club isn't just sales, even though that is what you'll be targeted on.  You'll be expected to handle a high amount of administration, customer service & be able to problems solve all at the same time.  Full training is offered but not always maintained after you start.  You'll need to be able to work well under your own steam.  The teams are friendly but remember this is a sales environment.  Very little room for progression to management, so just be happy in the role you've applied for.  Staff are either there for years or don't last no in-between.  They pay commission at a set rate on each passenger at the time you make a booking, but they will also deduct any cancellations from you and this you have no control over along with not being very popular.  Overtime is available but not guaranteed.  You will be expected to work over your hours with no pay or time back
Any operator promotions, incentives you are able to keep.
They main thing to highlight is only a very few obtain the sales figures you are given the impression you'll achieve month, and be expected to work almost every weekend including late on a Saturday regardless of they tell  you at the interview.

Really enjoyed this job at the start as I have an extensive travel background even though I am young but this job turned from happiness to stress very fast. You have to go through 2/3 months worth of training which is very professional and good but when you reach the end of your training if they think you are not good enough they will just let you go without warning leaving you jobless. I did pass my probation and was working as a ‘cruise expert’ but your calls would be listened too everyday and your were told you are not catching the sale even though the customer on the phone would most likely want to talk it over with family before booking. I got put into ‘retraining’ as I wasn’t doing enough bookings but I was never at the bottom of the board. They send a sales report out every month with the best and worst sellers so all co workers can see. I will say you get a lot of perks with this job including free cruises, free money from brands and good commission. I was put on furlough during covid and then got a call saying not to bother coming back to work as I have been made redundant which was a shame as the people you work with are lovely.

I would strongly caution anyone considering working at Bolsover Cruise Club to think carefully before accepting a role. While the company presents itself well from the outside, the internal management structure feels extremely inconsistent and poorly thought out.
Management appears to be appointed without sufficient experience or understanding of how to actually manage people. There is very little ongoing support or development after the initial training period, which leaves employees feeling unprepared and unsupported when issues arise.
One of the most concerning aspects is the culture around mistakes. Even minor errors are treated disproportionately, with an underlying fear of some benefits been stripped being placed on staff. This creates a stressful working environment where employees feel pressured rather than encouraged to learn and grow.
Overall, the lack of proper management training, limited support, and a blame-focused culture make this a difficult place to work. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a supportive or professional working environment.

I started my career as a Cruise Expert in 2008 with no knowledge of cruising. I was assured in my interview that this wasn’t a problem and that full training would be provided.

The office is very inviting, with lovely décor, loads of personal workspaces, a canteen with a lounge area and free car parking and bike storage. It is also very accessible from the M1. When I started, I went straight into training and it was exciting to learn about cruises. Holidays are an easy product to sell and talk about, so I enjoyed building my knowledge on the various cruises. The trainers are extremely helpful, patient and are there to support you. You’ll get to build rapport with your customers, and it's a lovely feeling knowing you’ve helped someone with their dream holiday. 

What attracted me to Bolsover Cruise Club was hearing the potential to earn fantastic money. Plus there are plenty of perks up for grabs too, from high street vouchers, free cruises, extra commission, hampers and more.  

The sales team are a friendly, fun bunch and is there to help each other.  I’ve now been with the family business for over 13 years, and I can hand-on-heart say, I won’t be going anywhere else. 

I started Bolsover 10 years ago and i have enjoyed the journey.
It started hard for me , training felt laborious and repetitive- i toyed with leaving. Management were encouraging & i decided to stay and WOW- i am glad i did.
I have learnt many things over the years and i have been given some fantastic travel opportunities i will forever be thankful for.
They say it starts at the top and despite some rocky periods personally, i have always felt supported & listened to by management.
Mr Wilson and his family carried us through covid ( a horrendous time to work in travel) and our hard work felt appreciated.
The capacity to earn 40+K is very reachable, just have to get your head down and focus on selling, selling, selling.
I feel more supported than ever now, its been an odd 2 years with restructuring but i feel at peace now and continue to be excited for my ever growing career.

The worst run company I've ever worked for. They say its a family run business, unfortunately they don’t tell you this family are the most nasty you've ever met. Management choices are laughable, from sales floor to sales manager in 10 minutes- the most undeserving promotion there has ever been. Awful attitude towards staff, you could be the highest revenue earner, make one mistake and you’re on a PIP. No praise, no encouragement just constant  negativity and unlawful comments. I would not go back here if it was the last job on the planet. Please please do not apply here. I worked there for almost 9 years and at the beginning it was genuinely a great place to work. Oh and if you unfortunately have to be off work with cancer, they will replace you in your absence and when you do come back your job role has changed.
Absolutely disgusting people and place to work. Awful  simply doesn’t even come close to how they are.

My career at Bolsover Cruise Club started when I was just 18 years old, now at the age of 32, and I genuinely have no complaints about working for such a rewarding, family-run business.
As a child, I’d been on a few family cruises and always remember thoroughly enjoying them. When I saw the opportunity to work in the cruise industry I knew the role was right for me, talking and learning about all things cruising! The training was extensive and intense but rewarding to become a Cruise Expert.

The potential to earn a considerable amount of money, chance to travel and be rewarded for hard work is the reason why I’m still here today.  I forgot to mention the free parking, easy access from the motorway and state-of-the-art Cruise Centre, which is pretty impressive!


The training process in this job seemed fantastic, however once out of this period everything came crashing down very quickly. If you advocate for yourself in any way that goes against management they will bully you very quickly. If you show any individualism, you will be treated badly. If you make one small mistake this will be pulled up on very quickly, but all the good work you do will never be noticed. Not a single person has ever left this company on good terms and this is a complete reflection upon the family that own it and their clique of managers. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT apply for a job here. 

Working with cruises is always interesting with so much variety in the cruises we sell. In my role, I work closely with the cruise lines as well as the Bolsover team to create marketing activity to showcase the best offers available for our customers across digital and print. 

With Bolsover Cruise Club being a family business, the management is very dedicated to the success of the employees and happiness of the customer. I've always felt supported by my manager and wider senior management team in my role. The fast-paced nature of the business is well-rewarded, and it's great to work with such a fantastic team every day.
