There a toxic culture that runs through this company unlike any other I have ever encountered. 
Senior management micro manage and bully in areas which they have  little to no knowledge in, forcing decisions and then apportioning blame when decisions fail.

Stuck in the past with regards to how the company is run with no desire to improve or change production processes, this caused stress and frustration.

There was no focus at all on employee well being at any level. Mental or physical. Welfare came secondary to production output. 

Few if no development opportunities or training.

Holidays are fixed dates which further makes work life balance poor.

The health, safety and environmental culture was poor.

No opportunity to progress within the company.

When Issues are reported to HR absolutely no action is taken.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Friendly people. Most management welcoming and helpful.
I left the company on good terms but have had my applications to return blocked by middle management

Very busy organising transport for outgoing deliveries and planning incoming goods

If you do what you are capable of doing and not surrendering to unfair criticism then you will be fine

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Extremely busy but any problems you might be experiencing is taken by middle management to their seniors rather than getting stuck in with you to address the issues

Due to the current situation within the building/joinery trade it was becoming increasingly more difficult for me to remain self employed.
A production operative is not the type of work I have been accustomed to but I took the opportunity to gain the experience and to maintain an income.
The hours of work are: Monday to Thursday :
2 weeks days - 7am until 7pm 
2 weeks nights - 7pm until 7am.
The most difficult part of the job is the extremely high temperature I am required to work in, which is necessary due to the material they produce.
There is little time to get to know any co-workers as everyone has a machine to oversee and operate and different breaks.

I remember starting to work for this company over 20 years ago and what a great place to work and excellent pay and great atmosphere. 20 years on and it's complete opposite no training at all levels, facilities toilets canteens are disgusting, machines running around 40% faster which means employees must work 40% more, never enough men on shift to cover every job required. £13 per hour for doing a tough technical job in brutal heat everyday in this day and age just doesn't cut it. Minimum wage grade 3 workers is embarrassing for what they are expected to do, company is on its knees  its time to get out along with the rest of the good experienced workers. Bad management and terrible leadership has ruined which was a great job.

High turnover of employees, mostly through employment agencies, usually with no interview, absolutely no training, threw in at the deep end, sometimes learning from other untrained employees. Usually different jobs daily, some standing in one spot for 12 hrs others walking back and forth. Everyone suffers from some kind of physical pain until they get used to it. Brett Martin advertise about Quality, yet they run the machines at such a fast pace it's impossible to check every part. Also no one tells you, you go on a rota to clean canteen and toilets! 

Management are micro managers, too many meetings. The owners are greedy and only care about money. The HR is really bad and awkward. 

The culture isn't good and the other staff labour's are treated poorly. 

The place is dirty in side and out, iys disorganised, poor quality products and inefficient process through out. The structure Is top heavy and the senior staff are arrogant and up them selves. 

Pay is poor and sick pay is bad I hear. The whole place needs rubbed out and redone. 

Don't Interview don't apply. Avoid at all costs unless you are truly desperate. Wish I had known before getting here. Now I'm stuck until I have another job to go to. 



Easy job but leaving you with not much to do once everything’s up to date and no other tasks / responsibilities given even when asked. 
Outdated processes and structures across all departments causing consistent and repeated delays in resolving customer issues.
90% of the people there have been there several years, the entire office is very cliquey, this over time makes the environment very toxic and the people in it unbelievably unprofessional. 
Upper management and the sales team were always friendly and great to work with. 

The company is very much stuck in their ways and this doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon.

Brett Martin is a great company to work for though burscough site  could do with a team leader that can lead a team
and you don't  get chance to better yourself within the company

I never found it stressful while employed  there

Burscough needs to brush up on health and safety  issues

I used to look forwards to  going to work while employed  there people easy to get on with

I worked as a Production operative in Fomalux, there was no formal and proper training and every now and then you will be moved to different departments to work. The old employees treat you with disdain and so called team leaders or managers don’t give a dime. I wasted almost 4 months of my life working here. People often say this is arguably the worst place to work in Northern Ireland. 


Absolutely shambolic that a place with such high turnover, can treat workers in such a way as Brett Martin seem to be able to get away with. Modern day slavery springs to mind. Management are useless, Team Leaders who think it's fine to talk to people like a piece of dirt on their shoe.

Long hours, searing heat, dusty, noisy environment. No set tea-breaks/ lunch breaks. Needing cover from someone else to even go to the toilet.
