I was assinged as Project Manager for the Billet Caster Enhancement Project at British Steel by COO. The office was nearby the Billet Caster. I started the work at 8 am every day till 5 pm, from Monday to Friday every week. We held weekly meeting at 9 am every Monday,to assess the last week activities and to discuss the works in the coming week with the project team. The project was at the contract negotiation phase. We as project team try to finalize the tecnical and commercial issues. We made the project ready to be signed by BS and the contractor except the financial issues.I learned that detail items of the contract is important for both sides. İn order to avoid the future conflicts between the parties, the scope of supply of each party should be defined in detail. The most part of the project was to clarify the financial issues. The project team was consist of experienced persons.

The Scunthorpe steelworks is huge, with over 3,500 staff on site. There's been a massive change in culture since the company split from TATA Steel two years ago. There are new processes in place for recruiting; on-boarding; and revised role-training sweeping through the various Plants & Mills. The workforce attitude is changing too: many of the 'old guard' have taken early retirement with their pension pots; and the 'next generation' of workers (over 25% in some departments) have brought in a new enthusiasm. There's a process in-place now to develop future leaders from the shop floor - as well as the graduate entry scheme. Investment is improving the state of the manufacturing equipment and the whole place is on the up-and-up.

Health and safety is no concern all about production will throw you in very dangerous situations all it is is a bum on a seat no equality minimum wage for driving 40 tonne machines and other departments on thousands more doing the same job work bank holidays Christmas weekends long hours bank holidays are paid at awful rates, job itself wasn’t to bad just the people running it didn’t have a clue and you was treated and spoke too poorly, never got a pay rise at all only time they put it up is when minimum wage goes up

The worst company I have ever worked for!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Using I Trent and communication: in the years I worked there I never saw one member of the HR staff.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Terrible working environment. Dust, smoke, sulphur fumes!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very unpleasant. Don't know how I stuck it so long !

Mainly waiting around all day for a job to come up, as no there was quite a lot of us, jobs were limited. I learned how to be independent and how to communicate with strangers without being dependent on others around me. My manager was friendly and I knew were he was if I needed help, the hardest part of the job was waiting round for men to finish work. The best part of the job was talking to other people who worked there, it was nice seeing friendly faces.

Worked here 20 years, all the time it’s been one crisis after another, no job security apart from the fact the cannot get anyone to start working there due to poor conditions. 
Going into 4 on 4 off soon, 2 12 hour day shifts followed by 2 nights. 

I quite enjoyed working there and had the freedom to work from home and was given autonomy over my work. The company went through few takeovers and that had its effect on restructuring and reorganising the teams and work. 
The main con in this company is salary which doesnt match well with market rates.

Awful place to work. 
Management cover themselves and literally load the gun against you at EVERY opportunity. 
HR dept is a joke. Mostly ownership now running the show in there.
"Staff" members flown in from owners country and residing in the old offices!

Overall an okay place to work but in recents times no proper communication on the future of the site. Management has suffered over the years from nepotism and promoting inexperienced people into positions they are not ready to do.

Fast paced department. 
Good pay for area.
Plenty of opportunity to progress.
Good working environment.
Very helpful staff.
Good pension benefits.
Good health and safety training.
