This is for the e-commerce department in particular. Worst management team I've ever worked under. More interested in gossiping and throwing people under the bus than actually providing assistance or having any accountability in their own mistakes. Some managers literally sit at their desks all day doing nothing but reading Trustpilot reviews and trying their hardest to avoid any responsibilities for tickets - and when they do have to speak to a customer or respond to a ticket they're a nervous wreck. Longer serving members of the team have no issue pulling tenure and throwing blame onto newer members of staff (not just the e-commerce department in this regard).

In just the e-commerce department I've seen more staff turn over in the last year than all of my last 10 years of working combined, you're almost meeting a new group of hires every month. Some of this is just unfortunate hires, but a lot of it is incompetence in interviewing correctly.

The atmosphere is all over the place at times, people generally get along but there's so much backtalk and gossip behind peoples backs (a lot of the time instigated by a few of the longer serving employees) it feels like you're back in school. 

Received basically zero training from the start of my role and had to teach myself essentially every aspect of my role by chasing up other members of staff or finding details online.

Main positive however was that outside of management, some of the people in the company are generally great people and are very down to earth and easy to get on with - especially most of the shop floor staff.

Working at this company has been a truly fulfilling experience. One of the things I appreciate most is the freedom to choose the projects I work on. While there’s thoughtful guidance from management that helps steer me toward impactful opportunities, the final decision is always mine—which fosters a strong sense of ownership and motivation.

The culture here is another standout aspect. It’s incredibly collaborative and supportive. I’ve had the chance to both learn from others and share my own knowledge, which creates a continuous cycle of growth. Everyone is open to helping and being helped, and that openness elevates the whole team.

The work environment is healthy, inclusive, and filled with genuinely kind people who care about each other’s success. It's a place where personal and professional growth is encouraged, and where you feel valued every step of the way

I have been working at Builder Depot for 3 years and it has been a rewarding experience. The team is supportive and collaborative, creating a positive work environment. Every staff member on my team and everyone in the business are very friendly and outgoing people. We always make jokes and laugh but we are also hard working people. I appreciate the opportunities that they have given me for growth and development, with regular training sessions that helped me enhance my skills. The management is very approachable and values every employee feedback, which makes me feel valued as part of the team. Plus, being surrounded by a wide range of products keeps the job interesting and engaging. Overall, it's a great place to work if you enjoy the retail and home improvement industry!

A job that treated me with a lot of respect in regards to the rewards for my work. The path to improve and as a result receive a pay increase is very transparent and acted upon if achieved. Feedback is clear and constructive. Any issues are worked through fairly.

The web team are incredibly friendly and it was a pleasure to work alongside them.

Fast-paced family run workplace where you can progress your career with hard work and dedication (I started on shop-floor with no experience 19 years ago).
 No 2 days are the same, and always something new to learn, either from fellow colleagues, or customers who are happy to explain their projects.
Great teamwork in branches, including all managers helping serve customers or fill shelves, which has made us one of the busiest builders merchants in London over the years.  

A very dynamic place to work with a lot going on daily in each department so you always hands on something to do, and never get a boring day.
A typical day might be very demanding, especially at busy times.
Throughout my many years of working for the company in all its branches in all different positions,I learned about each department with the support of the staff and management and made my way up the company ladder. I met many fantastic people where they happily shared their knowledge.
The team is always supportive and easygoing with a positive attitude .


A proactive business which operates at a fast pace, supporting both customers and colleagues. In the short time I have been here, Builder Depot continues to grow. To be apart of the progress made has been a positive experience and I am encouraged by the future. My colleagues work collaboratively across the departments and we are given the autonomy to deliver the results needed. Open discussions at all levels of the business, talking through ideas, experiences, expectations etc gives me confidence that I feel supported and challenged at the same time.

Builder Depot is a terrible place to work.  There is bullying among staff and from managers.  Made me sick.  Managers lie and pressure the staff, no support.  Company wants to make money at all cost to staff.  Don’t care for staff.  Staff treat each other badly, no trust, everyone angry and scared. No job security, no progression.  Lots of redundancy. Staff treat customers badly, orders go wrong and staff don’t care and laugh at customers.

Builder depot is a great place to work, A great team that support's eachother on daily tasks. Can be really busy at times but everybody helps to serve the customers as best as possible. 
Really enjoyable to work with everyone in the business who all support and guide eachother. 
Management support the teams wherever possible and this is seen with a good working culture across the branch. 


Good place to work and nice knowledgeable colleagues, small to medium sized company and in the team it feels like everyone has a purpose, some growth training from management is given and more time is always granted for self study, training between departments would be beneficial for better understanding and communication.
