I have enjoyed working at Capel, every day there is something new to learn, and I enjoy interacting with different customers of all ages. The hardest part is all the different systems to use and knowing which one is the required one for that particular job. The staff are friendly and easy to get along with, they are ready to help and assist in anyway, and always thinking of how to improve their area of expertise. The students alike are very friendly and are well mannered. I have learned a fair amount during my time there, I have knowledge of different systems, dealing with a variety of inquiries in different forms, email, telephone, face to face. A typical day at work is to unlock the shop that we control, set up the desk for the day ahead, complete a stock take in the shop and order anything if required, count the float money into the 2 tills (one for the shop and one for garden entry) and then proceed to complete any invoicing, answer any calls or emails, see to the students, staff or customers if they require any help, promote the Friends Of Capel garden access cards, admin duties, and general reception/office work. Each day varies at Capel Manor College and Gardens

This role involves being overworked, underpaid and undervalued. My colleagues and I were never allowed to finish on time, resulting in lots of unpaid extra work. Roles have specific lists of tasks/responsibilities, but a huge amount gets added without notice or time to do these tasks efficiently; this results in management getting angry and punishing everyone. Team leaders will tell you to do tasks, then punish you the next day for doing the task they requested. Very stressful and toxic environment, and no consideration of disabilities, staff needs. The environment is not inclusive, lacking equality for staff.

Awful place to work. Very high staff turnover. Managers / SLT are unsupportive, put ridiculous pressures on staff. Staff go above and beyond and are not appreciated. Poor staff wellbeing and mental health. Staff consistently leave. College should be in special measures. Ground staff and teachers  are awesome and go above and beyond, mlbut management are toxic, uncaring and will lie. Pay is rubbish. No support for staff returning to work from sickness, maternity etc.. Safeguarding issues. Apart from staff on the ground, teaching staff, the College is toxic and would not recommend this college for your child. Last minute deadlines 

Staff are pressured by seniors to fabricate grades in order to keep students. It's a matter of time before this place goes the same way as Hadlow and Ofsted uncover the dreadful practise of this college. Horrific lack of support. Concerns are not acknowledged and rather than support 'valued' members of staff, management continues to turn a blind eye, but ready to take credit for your hard work. It's a matter of time before hard working staff get caught up in the disaster that is Capel Manor. 
Complaints are not acknowledged, persistent bully culture from senior staff. Avoid.

Good working environment that requires problem solving every day. Can be stressful and rewarding at the same time. Teaching is never the same as there are a variety of subjects that you can teach. The hardest part of the job is balancing work life with personal life. It can be very hard to find the right balance. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing students succeed in their studies and being part of the journey.

I worked at capel manor voluntarily for over 6 months, the management were terrible and spoke down to their staff especially new staff or younger ones.

You constantly have to work late even for free and you are lied to.

They tell you they only employ internally so you have to volunteer but when it comes to getting a job there they tell you they havn't got any funding.

The students are fantastic though.

Lack of support and necessary action

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
People join with the best intentions but soon get sucked down by the lack of action and inefficiency

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Manic. Too few people, too much to do.

Management do not prioritise staff welfare. This is evident in the lack of staff retention, leaving students unsupported and with remaining staff over whelmed with additional responsibilities.
Complaints against management are not acknowledged.  
Facilities are not fit for purpose, Enfield is key site for all resources, others do not get same funding.

There are a lot of things that need improving such as staff management communications, staff training opportunities, staff coordination, timetable coordination and matching staff skills and abilities to areas within the college.

I enjoyed working and studying at Capel Manor College and it’s the perfect college  to learn all about Horticulture. They taught me so much knowledge in plants, flowers, etc so I fell quite confident with my horticulture’s knowledge to date.
