As Interim Home Manager I was reporting to Head of Older People's Services. I had support from managers from sister homes when needed.  Typical day would range from resolving complaints from service users and their families, staff issues, arranging meeting and attending meeting with Head of Older People's services and carry out and delegate to Interim Assistants Managers. Dealing with families during sensitive time when their loved ones have passed on. Working with Adult Social Services Team to review placement and other agencies including GPs, District Nurses, Mental Health Team, CQC during unannounced inspection, recruiting, supervisions and appraisal, dealing and supporting staff with performance issues. I work with HR to support staff who are on long and short term absences due to ill health use of Bradford Factor Score. Ensure the home comply with Health and Safety Regulations.

I have learn that real change comes when staff and service users work together planning how service should be delivered. I get the best out of people by making team feel valued and as part of team. I maintained professional boundaries at the same time motivate team to be the best as they can. The hardest part of the job is when dealing with family conflicts during a sensitive time and when families lack insight and becomes aggressive.

The best part of the job is when clients shows appreciation, the direct thank you makes the job worthwhile. I am hard working, motivator and willing to learn new skills.

The culture is awful. Most people are burn out and hate the company. As a new starter I had most people spend hours telling me how awfully run the place is and I should get out. They were not wrong. The new CEO has a lot of good ideas and the implementation of chief inspectors has been really good as they listen and make change. However, any change is excruciatingly slow. 
There are no pay bands and no chance for pay rises or promotions within your current role which they don’t say until after you start. Even if you go above and beyond you are not recognised for it and the only pay rises are company wide but these are minimal and rare. 

Depending on the team you are in your experience will vastly differ. There is no consistency to how teams operate or complete work and some teams are a joy to work with and others are shocking. You have flexibility around your hours and some of your work flow as just left to it but also the kpis are high and unrealistic in cases. 

The interview process is a joke. Initially applied for a role and it took 6 months from application to get me in post. Internal application in the company took over 4.5 months to get job offer with very poor communication from HR. Because recruitment takes so long, most good candidates do not stick out the process. 


In my current role I am responsible for monitoring quality and supporting managers to improve quality. 

I am highly proficient in excel VBA and the tools I have created help managers to analyse quality performance in a multitude of different ways.

In the last year I have taught myself how to code using excel vba, I had no knowledge of coding a year ago but I am now able to produce complex reports over daily, weekly and monthly durations.

I have a great deal of experience in the management of workloads by utilising the skills and knowledge of colleagues around me. 
I am often looked to to provide management support in my managers absence.

The most challenging part of the role is getting internal teams to engage with the quality process and to understand that producing high quality work can help keep volumes of work at predictable levels.

The best part of my role is seeing the tools I have created being used by managers and also to be able to change tools to meet the customers needs.

A typical day at work would be carrying out inspections or audits in  nursing homes or residential homesI also undertook complex investigations following incidents in homes. I coached and advised inspectors on a daily basis regarding the care of vulnerable adults and how to improve their health and quality of life. I chaired team meetings and assisted inspectors to manage their workloads.
I spent time each week preparing for inspections by reviewing statistics and CQC reports and information from other external professionals,I took detailed notes and produced weekly reports within deadlines set.
I attended training courses on working with people who are living with dementia and learned a lot about how to communicate effectively with people with disabilities
Management were generally supportive and enthusing and the team of people I worked with were knowledgeable and we shared our particular skills
The hardest part of the job was delivering criticsm constructively to managers and staff who did not always want to accept it

My day involves managing groups of individuals, and attempting to streamline workflows in order to meet our daily targets. I am a team officer who is constantly dealing with queries, call escalations and monitoring of productivity.

Management aim to improve the smooth running of the organisation and make the CQC a stronger and more robust organisation.

My co-workers are varied and vast. The great majority are lovely people who work hard to achieve the goals set by the company.

The hardest part of my job is the current instability and lack of guarantees about the future of many roles within the company. 

The most enjoyable part of my job is trying to help my staff in whatever way I can, and feeling fulfilled when I see this occurring.

Progressive workplace with opportunities to grow in my career and opportunities for continuous professional development in the role. Work though can be full on and busy, however, the day is usually productive with the opportunity to consolidate previous learning and gain new experiences. The management structure is usually respectful of staff, with gratitude of the work we put in. There is also a feeling that work put in is appreciated by management and the team. There is also a culture of safety enhanced during inspections, input is recognised and support from management is evident. The job gives me the opportunity to witness different ways of working and to take away good practices, but also I am able to contribute my own learning and knowledge to the role, this gives me great  job satisfaction.

Lots of poorly planned and poorly communicated transformation. IT systems that are not fit for purpose, putting staff and people who use services at heightened risk. Senior leaders display toxic positivity, refuse to listen to frontline staff, do not consult with those their changes affect. They don’t even allow us to ask challenging questions or make comments in meetings they perceive as negative. Watch the post office scandal, that’s what the CQC is like. Blame culture from the top to the bottom. 
Poor pay, poor training, limited progression opportunities. High workloads seem impossible a lot of the time. It’s a put up and shut up environment. 
Never have I been so unhappy in a role and organisation. It’s toxic, chaotic, emotionally draining and we are not listened to. 

Bureaucratic partly by necessity.  A difficult task to inspect health services that are sometimes struggling often due to health and social care recruitment issues. The CQC inspection framework takes this into account but the process can be demotivating for those being inspected when some elements they need to achieve a Good rating are clearly not within their control. Some inspectors don't fully consider this if they haven't been in a hands-on healthcare role trying to hold everything together each day! The CQC training is vast but should cover empathy skills. It wouldn't mean inspectors have to be 'soft' or make excuses for providers, but just to recognise the difficulties and be more human about their challenges.

a typical day at work consists of commuting to clients houses giving them care and support to enable them to live a safe comfortable life.
i learnt how to deal with clients professionally in all fields of health being able to offer end of life care.
there were no opportunity's to progress in a career with care work as the company was a small private company with little or no funds to pay for courses like NVQ.
my co workers were all lovely although most of the time i worked alone and had to meet strict timings in order to complete my round.
the hardest part of my job would have to be loosing clients through health .the most enjoyable part of the job was meeting people from all walks of life hearing about their pasts and the thanks we were given for simply helping them in their daily struggles.
