Do yourself a favour and don’t waste your time applying. ‘Uncapped commission’ but there’s a catch, you earn less than minimum wage but will be topped up to minimum wage should you fall below. Therefore there’s a gate where some commission is used to get you to minimum wage and only from there will you be earning ‘commission’. It’s derisory. It’s about 1% from each order. You also have to wait for each order to be fitted and shipped to see your commission and even then it’s pro rata. For example let’s say you have a £2000 order. £20 commission. If you take that order today but it’s not fitted until June 21. You won’t see that commission until July.

 There’s no growth in the company, no vision, no ambition, no opportunity to be creative and forward ideas. Managers, regionals, divisionals you name it who don’t use common sense, who live in the stone ages, who care more about you accidentally forgetting your name badge rather than driving sales.

This is meant to be a sales job but I don’t recall ever having a meeting regarding sales, how to push and exceed KPI’s, where as a team we are, where we need to be, what we can do. There’s no hunger. The only incentives are the occasional £10 vouchers given by the regional for biggest order of the day. 

Selling beds is an easy sale but the company that carpetright uses to deliver them is a joke. Every order there’s a fault whether that’s delayed delivery, no communication between delivery company and customer, faulty goods, wrong goods, a combination of both, wrong colours, rude drivers. It’s just a joke.

The days are boring. You have busy Saturdays in the build up to Christmas tbf but other than that it’s boring 70% of the time. I reckon this could really be a work from home sales job.





Having worked for this firm for 4 long miserable years I know a thing or two. This company must fall soon due to the lack of respect towards its staff. The bullying culture is rife right from the top which filters down without dilution. 
They are in my opinion the worst company I have ever worked for. I believe their down fall will be down to how they treat people in general who stand up to what is right and fair. The worst part is how they treat their staff. 
Breaks and especially lunch breaks are frowned upon even though they tell you that you are entitled to an hour if you take it then you are frowned upon. So, after a while most staff just follow suit to be accepted. This is just the tip of the iceberg. 
Over the years, they have somehow managed to recruit highly skilled people who were fantastic and given their all, but then lost them because they walk all over them with total disrespect, treating them like they own you.
They have now probably exhausted the life blood and will only be able to keep hold of the very desperate seeking work or sadly the people who are too afraid to answerback or move on. The best has already gone and now the constant staff turnover will result in their further downfall. 
The song writer Cat Stephens made a song that fits this firm perfectly called Mathew & Son. This company is the modern version of that song. They are ruthless bullies who lead by intimidation and bending all the rules to suit them selves. All the toys come out the pram when any one fights back and they are sore losers. Like most bullies, they are week.They will fall and the sooner the better.

I made it very clear in the interview process that I would require training for the role. Yet, nine months later, I still had no idea what I was doing. No time was made to assist me in finding my footing with the role, and yet I was expected to handle incredibly large sums of money and offer quotes / interest free credit / complex calculations without even so much as a formula to go off despite the store's very backwards systems and very niche ways of doing things. Job is commission based, so other staff members will more often than not go out of their way to keep you in the dark so that they can make a profit. I was told in the interview that they were looking to change the company culture by introducing some younger employees, yet you are thrown in at the deep end and the last person employed before myself had a breakdown and stopped showing up one day from the immense pressure. I, too, decided that this job was not worth the hassle as I was constantly being expected to answer very nasty, and very aggressive customers with hardly a leg to stand on as I was not being trained for the role. I was also regularly told to lie to customers so that management could avoid doing their jobs, and the managers were hardly ever on the floor to be of any assistance, instead insisting that they are either too busy or would randomly go shopping on shift while remaining, lesser experienced staff members were left to fend for themselves, the store was understaffed and you could see why. You're letting yourself in for a terrible time if you decide to work at this place.

- A typical work day involves entering customers houses with sharp tools, moving all the materials i.e. carpet, tools, underlay from the van into the house. Lay out and cut the gripper and underlay to correct size. Lay out the carpet, cut the carpet down to size, bolster the carpet down to the gripper to hold it down. Lastly hoover up the mess.
- I have learnt how to work within a working environment with numerous personalities. As well as being able to use dangerous tools safely. As I work with my father, I have managed to keep the family relationship seperate from our working relationship.
- The management within Carpet Right is average, they occasionally get materials lists mixed up with the amount needed for jobs. However, they do try to look after their employees.
- I have occasionally worked with different fitters the odd day or two, most have a similar background to me, so we have a decent bond and again able to work together whilst they go out of their way to teach me something new.
- The hardest part of the job for me, is the days have no fixed end. As we start 8am, but we can finish some days between 2pm-8pm. I find this difficult as i have a rather good social life, so I am unable to plan things for a certain time in case we do not finish at that time. Therefore i stress myself out if my plans become double booked.
- The most enjoyable part of the job, is that I am learning something new most days, which I will be able to do myself in the future.

Typical day at work on a Monday for example i would get to work just before 9:30 which is when i would start my shift.
I would make sure all materials and accessories are all out for the fitters, stay on the shop floor answering phone calls and approaching any customers offering any help.
At the times the shop can be very empty and customers wont be present for hours at times, those kind of days we would make sure the warehouse is tidy and organised, the shop floor is tidy and all remnants are out for customers to see when they walk in.
I started just over a year ago knowing absolutely nothing about carpets, vinyl, laminate, underlay, measuring Ect. I have learned what different types of flooring is more ideal and recommended for different rooms and areas, what accessories the customer would need in order to complete the job, how to convert inches to meters, feet to meters Ect, how to approach customers in the best way and to never pressure them, how to use the system on the computers, how to order materials and book orders in for fitting, how to locate exactly what is needed for a job in the warehouse i.e all the different doorbars, underlay, beading rods Ect.
Hardest part is taking delivery and lifting very heavy carpets into the warehouse.
The most enjoyable part is working with friendly co workers and fulfilling customers needs and receiving customer compliments after many sales.

It was a bit of a change for me switching from predominately trade to retail but with support of the area manager at the time I joined and some other local managers it made it a lot easier.

A typical day would be briefing the team in the morning. Mainly going through any current offers, previous days sales and sales targets for that day. Make sure that days fittings are running smoothly and call the previous days completed fittings for quality control. I would walk the floor regularly and always make myself available for customers and staff.

I had 2 different area manager in my time there and first one was very motivational and an exceptional man manager. The one after had an impact in my decision to leave.

Workplace culture was mostly positive. Could be a little cutthroat on the floor but that was due to wages being strongly commission based.

The most enjoyable part of the job was always getting a good review from customers via an in house feed back website. It shown that we were doing a good job and always put the customer first. The support and praise, not to mention regular communication from area management was also enjoyable and a refreshing change for myself.

Everyday in a Carpetright store is always different you could have a day with loads of Customers to serve in way of new sales or a day of admin looking after previous orders, booking in stock, ordering stock. Or a day of putting up new Rolls of Carpets, making remnants and pulling in deliveries. 
Theres a lot to learn when you first start especially with the wide range of floor coverings on offer but what Carpetright has done really well is their online learning plans and induction program, the training is very dynamic and engaging which really helps get you started/up to date/refreshed

Carpetright is now working with outside training companies and providing on the job training which at the end of program you have a NVQ. This is a great investment in future talent. 
Overall this is a company which has survived a difficult time and has not only secured its present security but now definitely looking to the future and investing in people in my opinion is the best way to build for the future. 

Ok so this is a retail job so the hours and irate customers comes as standard. As well as the £6.50 per hour (topped up by the company to meet the minimum wage criteria, if you aren’t receiving commission, if you are it will be your commission that tops it up) it’s also got a huge staff turnover. Within the 4 months working here I’ve seen the manager, the deputy, and another deputy manager,  the warehouse manager, and 2 sales advisors leave. Looks like im one of the experienced staff now. On the whole we have a good rapport with each other and considering the highly stressful environment we are fairly good spirited. The computer system is slow (windows 95) and money needs to be invested to offer a good service. On a typical day you see more complaints than happy customers which is due to overworked staff due to staff shortage, meaning lunch breaks and even bathroom breaks are hard to come by. My advice is if your a tough cookie this will be a good job for you and the commission structure is good and targets achievable. However if you crack easy, this job is highly pressured ... massively. So run like the wind!

Recently every sales colleague has been informed that their commission is practically being halved. They say only if we sell something that's 50% off will our commission plummet from 2% to 1%. Considering that there is a half price sale all year round many people will be effected and the families will suffer as a consequence. They released this statement just before Christmas with absolutely zero input from the teams who work relentlessly all year round to meet targets. I know some people who work 6 days a week every week and have no breaks and will be hit hard and most likely leave the company. Additionally the unsavoury low basic pay (below minimum wage) was always viewed as immaterial as the commission rate enabled people to earn a living. Yet that has not increased. It is viewed by many that the company has little interest in the well being of its staff. I would never ever recommend working for this company as it's more interested in lining the pockets of those at the top than those who truly deserve far more than what's on offer.

So many mistakes are made by this company and at the cost of the customer alot of the time, customer service is not at the forefront, management are rude and do not care about any personal problems or needing time off, it's no good for anyone with children as they will persocute you if you need time off for sick children, they are all about taking money, once they have got your order and you've paid they dont care beyond that, the warehouses are terrible and send passive aggressive emails to staff In stores, it should be called carpetbully, never mind carpetright, the management are dreadfull, unhelpful and rude, I would avoid at ALL costs, ur basically working for Less than minimal wage and the commission your promised is easily stolen of you from management removing your name of orders and replacing with their own, the hole working situation is a disgrace, my advice, find a proper job!!!!
