The only positive thing I have to say about Chancellors is that I worked with some really nice and friendly colleagues - it’s a shame that they can’t keep them though. The staff turnover is so high that people come and go every few months. The training is extremely minimal and does not prepare you for the job. One of my colleagues asked for extra training and was given a ‘Welcome to Chancellors’ PowerPoint slide after working for the company for several months. This job is extremely stressful and mentally draining. I would NOT recommend being a Property Manager to anyone who has struggled with mental health or anxiety. You are left to manage upwards of 100 properties with no help from seniors, relying on those good team members to help you out (like they aren’t busy enough with their own properties). The salary is also 18K - 22K, don’t believe what they put on the job advert. The company is infamous for gossiping and a toxic workplace, although I only ever saw this from seniors and other head office departments. There is also no room for progression and they push you into doing your ARLA course forgetting to mention that your notice period goes up to three months and you have to pay back the money if you fail an exam or leave within a certain period of time (think this is two years). The course is basically just to tie you into the company and make it near to impossible to leave. Overall, definitely the worst job I had and wish I had left before I did. Not worth the pennies you get paid. Also have no parking onsite - everyone fights over the few parking spaces a 15 minute walk from the offices. Honestly I could go on and on, the list is endless, but in a nutshell, stay clear of any department within Chancellors.

Having worked at Chancellors Head office since 2015 in sales progression the rewards are endless and promotion opportunities are always round the corner.

I started with Chancellors with very little experience in the property market and have worked my way up  to management level gaining a few awards on the way winning a trip to Dubai last Year, unfortunately just missing out on a Ski trip to Meribel  in France this winter & A summer break to Ibiza due to the high level of competitiveness within the team.


The hardest part of the job is dealing with situations which are out of our control whether its a chain break to personal circumstances which affect the sale and purchase of the property &.trying to keep the deal alive.

The most rewarding  and enjoyable part of the job is solving these issues above with the support network within the teams all  persevering and pulling together to get the properties exchanged.

we regularly have team incentives and competitions which help keep the overall spirits of the team strong.This has proven to be a success and has bonded the team and given the extra confidence required to push forward, with each individual team member fighting and pushing for promotion 

Overall a Fantastic company to work for,with endless opportunities
If you are prepared to put in the work you will be rewarded for it
If you are motivated to succeed at Chancellors the rewards are there   with a  support mechanism which is second to none.

Portfolios are too big for one person to cope with.
Staff turnover is massive so it added more work to an already massive mountain. 
Had to pay for parking even though there were loads of spaces (only managers and certain people got them, who were all working at home or in branch). 
Clear favouritism to the branches. Any time anything went wrong it was always blamed on us even when it was clearly their error. We would be expected to run around trying to fix it (not even so much as a thank you).
All the bonuses and rewards are aimed at the sales/branches so even though they caused massive amounts of stress for us, they would be the ones getting the bonuses and company trips away?
If you missed your targets, they would pull you in for a meeting the next day which took about 30 minutes which meant you were behind again. Only option was to stay late to get everything done but you were never paid for it. So it was either stay late and get everything done and moaned at for staying or leave on time and get moaned at for not finishing everything.
Expected to do Saturdays every so often but wouldn't be given time off in the week to make up for working that day (even though one team member kept getting away with not working them and no one ever pulled them up on it).
Were told we weren't allowed breaks on Saturdays which is illegal.
If you were caught on the phone to someone and were late going for lunch they'd still expect you back within the hour regardless.
Some people got to leave early or work from home but they still insisted we worked in the office.



It is the most toxic environment you could ever work in. You are purely a number and they show no care or value for any of their staff and pay everyone as close to minimum wage as they possibly can. Commission is purely used as a top up to get you to minimum wage when it’s supposed to be a reward. They don’t care about personal development and won’t provide you with any training or qualifications unless it makes them money. Some staff are allowed to work from home whereas others in similar roles who could work from home are not allowed there is no fairness or policies in place for this. I had a a close family member pass away during my employment and no compassion was shown I even had to take the funeral unpaid as according to Chancellors their “generous 2 days compassionate leave is enough to get over a death”. There was no return to work after this and the HR department didn’t check in once as they’re too busy slagging other employees off! It’s a corporate environment where they will hire anyone as long as it puts a bum on a seat. The do quarterly bonuses and offer great incentives for company trips and rewards but if you are head office staff you will not be able to win this and won’t be rewarded in the slightest as you are “a cost to the business and don’t make them any more”. Do yourself a favour and do not apply for a role here it will be the biggest mistake of your life! 

 I joined Chancellors Estate Agents back in June 1989 as a Lettings Negotiator based in the Ascot High Street office and after 4 years was promoted to be the Lettings Manager of this prestigious branch based close to the famous racecourse.
 
After an enjoyable and challenging 16 years, as my personal circumstances changed, I took a step back in responsibility and joined the newly formed Central Admin Team based in the Head Office in Bracknell where I still remain to this day.
 
Over my years with Chancellors I have been fortunate enough to be invited on High Achievers trips to the races, European cities and most recently to Las Vegas where we were spoilt by many events, shows and parties with no expense spared!
 
Chancellors award their employees with ongoing training throughout the year and membership to industry recognised bodies, in my case ARLA. Also when you reach a certain level private medical insurance is provided and on top of all this, after a qualifying period your birthday is given as an extra day’s holiday and on milestone employment anniversary dates a gift from the Directors.
 
I feel very fortunate in working for such a caring company for the personal support they have given over my employment with them.


Chancellors is a horrific company to work for. Wouldn't recommend to anyone at all. The company is very much about ruling with fear, making staff fear for their jobs. Quite often dismissing people. 

The management structure is rather confusing and leads to poor management. They hide certain manager's workplace bullying, My team leader is the reason that I left. I was doing better in terms of my figures and therefore, they had it out for me. I was not the only one that the degraded. Myself and another colleague were berated and belitted. One colleague walked out due to the awful way that she treated her. I was looking for another job and luckily found a position at a more suitable company in the same field. An informal investigation into our team leader concluded that it was merely a clash of personality between the team leader and ourselves. This was partially the case but as a team leader, you should still respect your colleagues and not make them feel incompetent when they are actually hitting their targets. 

Commission scheme is a joke. They have a guaranteed commission scheme. Earning enough commission to make sure that you don't have to owe the company money at the end of the year is near impossible.

I was so excited to start a ‘career’ in Estate Agency, but realised very quickly, this is not the company to do this in. In the short time, 8 months, I managed to stay with Chancellors, 9 people left from our region. I have never seen staff turnover like it. Multiple people left due to mental health issues, having previously never suffered from them. This company wants your blood sweat and tears and barely gives you any of the ‘uncapped commission’ it promises. It works more like a toxic pyramid scheme that takes all your hard earned commission than a legitimate company. 
For the hours you work and what you actually get back, it’s little above minimum wage. 
You get zero support, work in shoddy run down offices and have targets that are completely unattainable. You are constant compared to your other colleagues with leader boards and completions being run daily, leaving you feeling burnt out, unappreciated and deflated.
The only good thing I can say for this company is that some of my colleagues were very nice, however unfortunately because they are nice people, none of them last. 
They have a terrible reputation in the area and no one lasts longer than a year at most. 

I have been at chancellors for almost 3 years and started as a negotiator with no experience. 
I have worked in 4 different offices with a whole verity of people. I have always been a self-motivated person so a pay based on my work suits me to the ground. 
The hours are average but to progress and earn more; early starts are necessary. 
I have been promoted twice within my time; Senior Sales Negotiator and Sales Executive. I have received several bonus cheques- although in the busier offices as these are impossible in some offices. 6 monthly award trips are up for grabs which I have been invited to Ibiza and awaiting a skiing trip to Maribel. 
The pay started fairly low as it took a while to get a larger pipeline - be warned, if you do not earn enough, your pay will be topped up and if you leave within a certain time period, you may be liable to pay this back. 
The training is good and always at hand; this is done at the Headoffice location in Bracknell. 
I have loved my time at Chancellors but if you are looking for an easy ride, look else where. The ethos of the company is very proactive and target based but the rewards are there for the taking.

This was the worst employment experience ever. You are given unrealistic targets and as a manager expected to be make the same amount of calls as a negotiator even though you are out on appraisals all afternoon. Micro managed to death, senior management have no interest in their staff you are only a function of their vast sausage machine to churn out numbers for the Excel sheets. Zero morality in terms of employee relations, zero importance on client management only lip service is paid to calling clients every week to try to get price reductions and satisfy meaningless targets again. Every move you make is watched and judged, you are literally a cog in a machine not an individual. The HR practices boarder on illlegal. You can be sent packing with no notice within the probation period before given an opportunity to improve results. 
Please reconsider any temptation to work at this godforsaken organisation it is dehumanising and takes all the pleasure or satisfaction from Estate agency.

Typical day in the office 
Commission based job.
Very low commission some with the lower of £0.50 for a viewing done and the higher instruction of a property for £15.
Freshold - if you don’t hit your commission target company will hold money from your pay and you will be in arrears for the following month.

Called customer service but is more a sale job as the actual customer services duties are few.

Head office is nice - not a new office but they provide you with tea and coffee.
Had 4 managers in 2 years so management comes and goes - as well as other members of the team. It’s a very fast pace environment with high staff turn over.

Work life balance is good - no workload to be taken home.

Working Saturday every other week and take an extra day off during the week.

Hours are regular office hours.

Sometimes they offer lunch - pizzas day / breakfast.


Recommended for someone who’s looking for a flexible office hours job with no responsibilities.

You are a number for the company.
Unless your line manager really cares for you.
