What is the best part of working at the company?
Delivering a public service and helping the community I come from.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being public sector the most stressful thing is not having the resources to do everything we need to do to make people safer. But I regard challenges as opportunities and the people we employ are very good at doing more with less.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Much improved when I left in 2005 it was a moribund and hidebound culture with little cooperation and resentment of the senior ranks (now roles) as it was perceived they lacked ability and had achieved their positions through nepotism rather than hard work and ability. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Each day represents a great opportunity for us to help and support the most vulnerable people in Cleveland. No two days are the same so it is varied and interesting as well as engaging. Very enjoyable work and great people to work with and for in CFB.

Cleveland fire brigade are great. Great banter between shifts and volunteers, as always there's s few funny ones but mainly fab guys and girls. Always plenty to do but there are a lack of vehicles (or so they say) at the moment so it's hard. The volunteering at the Fire Support was great for the first 6 months from January, but it's gone down hill since the "groundworks" dole collectors have moved in. I think the managers are more interested in meeting targets than caring about how the brigade look and who's in and happy. Don't get me wrong there are a few great guys but most are only there because they have to be for their dole money. Most also don't work who volunteer at the network with the exception of a few- which has its pros and cons. 

However! The Cleveland fire brigade are a fab company and the bosses are always there to provide reassurance even when stretched to the limit!

What is the best part of working at the company?
Satisfaction of helping others and making a difference.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Misogyny. Egos. Lack of Integrity to do the right thing. Having my home broken into and searched after I informed the organisation that I was submitting a grievance for discrimination.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
A boys club. I wouldn't advise a woman to join the brigade as a firefighter. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
There is no typical day. However if you get bored easily, look elsewhere.

Since being a young child I have always been involved with Cleveland fire brigade on a voluntary basis. I enjoyed promoting fire safety and the importance of the work the fire brigade do. I attended community events in uniform to gain referrals for home fire safety checks and ensured people knew what to do if a fire ever broke out in their home. I visited local schools to talk about fire safety at bon-fire night and featured in a short film highlighting the consequences of playing in and around fire.

Typical days work:
- Check equipment eg. Breathing apparatus etc,
- complete days training
- study
- respond to any 999 calls
- Safety visits

Management has varied levels, the watch managers where excellent but had a lot of pressure from their bosses. Co-workers where very well trained and had a strong bond.
Hardest part of the job was dealing with the deceased and their families.
Most enjoyable part was the relationships build with  my co workers

Typical day - repetitive routine, mind numbing.
Management - jobs for the boys. No care for staff, selfish, only interested it climbing the ladder. Micromanaged via infant like routines.
A bullying and toxic culture, combined with institutionalised racism. A place where bullying and incompetence is rewarded and adhering to the organisation's code of conduct and upholding their core values is punished.
Hardest part of the job - surviving the monotony of each shift.
Most enjoyable part - going home.

Days off, good shift pattern, good amount of leave

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management and big bullying culture 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Abysmal, lot of bullying going on but from managers

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Fighting fires, etc, attend incidents

Extremely busy with complicated issues to deal with in order to protect members of the communities we serve and our employees.

Very proud being part of an extremely high performing brigade with the lowest house fires per head of population in the UK.

CFB is going through a very serious set of changes at this present time, which will inevitably impact on public safety
I enjoyed my 25 years in the Brigade but feel that h changes occurring at this time are detrimental to the Brigade and public safety

Enjoyed the experience everyone worked together and very friendly, helpful during my short time there would have loved to continue working for them. But they moved location and the role would have been part-time, so had to part ways.
