CoStar Group is one of the most toxic and demoralising workplaces I’ve ever encountered. The culture is controlling, outdated, and completely unsupportive. It feels like being trapped in a strict school, not a professional workplace. You’re monitored constantly, micromanaged to the extreme, and forced to hit unrealistic KPIs that change on a whim. There’s no transparency, no consistency—just pressure.

What makes it worse is the complete lack of job security. People are fired without warning, no performance reviews, no opportunities to improve—just one day you’re gone. Management thrives on fear and uses it as a tactic to control staff. It’s a high-stress, high-turnover environment for a reason.

The lack of diversity is glaring. Leadership is overwhelmingly homogenous, and there’s clearly a glass ceiling for ethnic minorities. Opportunities for advancement are few and far between unless you fit a certain mould. Inclusion feels like a checkbox exercise, not something the company genuinely cares about. If you’re a person of colour or from a minority background, don’t expect the same recognition or progression as your peers.

Overall, CoStar may look polished from the outside, but behind closed doors, it’s a toxic, rigid, and exclusionary workplace that drains your energy and offers no real future. Avoid at all costs if you value your mental wellbeing, professional growth, or being treated with basic human respect.

A typical day at this customer is being very busy dealing with client requests whiles still effectively communicating with the agents in your portfolio. I have learned how to time manage, how to set goals and work towards as well the ability to build relationships with some of the most demanding clients within the commercial real estate industry.

The management of the company could be a lot better because impossible tasks are set for employees to reach but there's no compromise on managements behalf. The workplace culture is decent, the employees actually like each other and at times do things outside of work, but mainly because they have a common enemy in the job.

The job is the hardest part, you are literally stretched thing and pulled in soo many directions but once you gain an understanding and come to terms with the role, you find your ability being enhanced and adapting to be able to fulfil your role.

I was at CoStar for almost 2 years; and it was great to broaden my existing sales skills; throughout the whole sales cycle. My role was to research, prospect; book meetings with prospects; close the sale; and account manage; including regular training and CRM meetings. I worked with a small team; which was great; as we could use each others' skills to help close a sale together; or work individually with the team pitching in for support when required. 
We had monthly sales meetings where we would learn from the whole sales team (c.40 in the UK) and their experiences; as well as learning from other parts of the company (marketing; product design). It was wonderful learning the priorities from my clients and prospects. The toughest part was; as with any sales company; identifying the need from the client without much information; so as to make their time meeting you worthwhile; and to enable an efficient sale for all

Self entitled  middle & senior wannabe managers with questionable education,  knowledge and experience. 

Some employees are mentally broken and think they are something special!

Nothing works properly in this business! 
Everything is a pure mess! 
ERP systems, Client accounts, IT-Systems.
IT systems were never set up properly. 

I had two a wannabe manager that couldn't differ between different specific topics. Typical US company. It is not a wonder, when you know how low quality the education system in the USA is.

No development and training in specific departments, more like a cheap call center.

The main Meeting topic is: "how great this company is!" Meetings are pure waste of time. 

Do not waste your time in this business! Only incompetent bootlicker get promoted. 

Prices & winners  are only given in US teams.


The positives to working in this role are the 9 - 5 Mon to Fri hours. The people are all outgoing and supportive as needs be in a telephone based role. Which is a great support.
The wages are higher than average.

The management are disorganized and frantic. The job is not as advertised.

Staff turnover is high because of office culture. Targets are chopped and changed frequently and pressure is focused on staff. Highly stressful environment, No flexibility.

Overall, it appears like your on to a dream job with opportunity for advancement and working abroad with great hours and a great salary. You'll soon find that this is spun to keep people coming to interviews as they have a 35% turnover annually. Prepare to be more stressed than you've ever been in your life.

Taken on as freelance to the business on a 14 month contract.
Work had to be submitted on time, but other than that we were left alone to do it on our own initiative. 
It became quite clear that I was doing the "dregs" that the employed staff couldn't/wouldn't do.
The work dried up about 6 months before the end of the contract, which left me in a very difficult position that I'm yet to recover from.  Luckily the money was very good and if you had the time and energy it was quite possible to double the income.
Given the chance I'd go back tomorrow, just to top up the bank account.

The HR Department appears neither to understand nor care about the Field Research Photographers. Our daily realities are completely different to office based staff. The lack of flexibility can make life difficult. HR and senior management need to better understand the nature of Field Research work. CoStar is a global company and often decisions made at HQ in the US do not translate to the realities of field work in the UK, particularly in major urban centres. 

Great company in an exciting marketplace.  The role is not necessarily an easy one but there's a good culture of teamwork and it's generally a pretty good bunch to work alongside.  Experience within CRE is a bonus here but full training (and encouragement to learn) is provided.  As with any targeted job, there can be ups and downs and at times the work-life balance is difficult to maintain but you get out what you put in.

The role is repetitive with no learning opportunities. Management is poor due to poor understanding of the market the comany operates in. Colleagues are good to get along with and very nice people.The hardest part of the job is handling the ludicrous demands of matrecs which effectively makes the company a call centre.

Good work/life balance & well paid.  
Ruthless CEO who would not think twice in pulling the rug from under people.
Good culture of promoting form within.  
Job could be extremely monotonous, very little scope for implementing change to best practice.
High turnover of staff.
