Worked as a zoo keeper, management were dreadful almost as though they set staff against each other. They will tell you one thing and then the next day insist they never did. Continuously. You cannot trust the management at all, nor their 'favourites' on the staff team, who drag others down to make themselves seem better. The curator clearly has no idea what he's talking about with a lot of animal based decisions as well, which zoo staff have no choice to accept and just watch animals suffer and die as a result.

I wish the owner of the place wasn't so blind to how the zoo is being run, as the place could be one of the best zoos in the country as well as being pretty to look at. As it stands, the zoo is just something nice to look at and nothing more.

There's a few key colleagues who were great, but they all leave eventually, for a reason. If a zoo advertises for keeper jobs as often as this one does, then you know there's something wrong with it. Especially when that zoo offers a free flat and even struggles to get enough applicants to accept a job offer.


Lovely environment to work in, but unpaid volunteering which is fine except a high level of commitment is expected and there was no chance of advancement to a paying job, even after people had volunteered for 3 years.

the manager and supervisors are amazing people to get along with and have a great sense of humour. they also push us to get our job done in a stern but fun way. they help us feel motivated to work and i am enjoying my time working there. it feels like a second family and i could not have asked for a better experience. 

Great place to work on the whole. 
Some management decisions beggar belief and communication can be very poor. Other staff members are generally very nice.
Tourism industry, expect to work weekends and Bank Holidays

Friendly environment and flexible days, various places to work which avoids boredom. All staff are local and willing to make friends. Easy place to work.

it aight. good starting job which is easy to get into but there's little to no room for growth unless you go to different departments but even then, not much to say
