Working at D.M.Keith is not easy, the management can’t do their jobs right and constantly make errors and show no support. They will then turn it around to put the blame on you. They expect way too much out of people, you are always finishing an hour or more later most days due to how unorganised the place is, if you don’t have a life outside of work then it’s good place to work, they do not care about your work life balance, only the “needs of the business”. The amount of times they change my days off and it’s “unnegotiable” is crazy, I make plans outside of work and they expect me to cancel my plans and prioritise the needs of the business. They expect you to work on your days off and be prepared to be called endlessly if you do get a day of. However if you are happy for your life to be taken over by this place, then it’s a good job with lots of enquiries and a good pay(only if you do well). With good pay though comes with a lot of a stress at dmkeith and for me, it’s not worth the damage it has done to me mentally.

The staff constantly have tiffs with each other, management don’t get on, the management tell you to go to them is there’s any issues but when you do they don’t care and start by pushing you out of the job. If you have opinions different to theirs, be prepared to be treated like you belong in the bin. They constantly ask you to do more work than you have to which means going in on your day off, they say they’ll pay you or give you your hours back and they never do. Communication between staff is shocking, even with evidence of talking to staff, they’ll still put the blame on you. Management changed the rota with no warning then cancel or reject your holiday requests. Commission doesn’t get paid unless you email HR and even then, you have to fight for it. If you don’t get a company car, don’t be expected to be paid your mileage back either. Stressful because management can’t manage.

When I joined this business the customer and it’s employees were at the heart of it’s culture and the values of the Directors were without question. In recent years the expansion and growth of the business have eroded the family ethics and culturally greed has taken over. The company claims to stand by it’s statement of letting their family look after your family? Maybe in the early days but not anymore. They have let senior people leave who were passionate about their business, treated it as if it was their own. Employees who really care can help the recovery and put this business back where it belongs as a superb employer with a genuine family ethos. The people at the top need to look at the direction they are heading in and if necessary re-engage with those ex-employees. It’s the ones that care and are passionate that will help bring this business back to life.

All in all not too bad to work for. Team was great to work with except the odd individual but you get that everywhere. Management for the most part are pretty good. Only real issue I had was they would find any excuse not to pay full commission, for example despite over achieving new car sales but fell short on used target but still over achieving the overall sales target and still being knocking back a commission band. I understand it’s set out to achieve what’s best for the company but seems a bit backward to penalise execs for excelling at new vs used. But it’s still a better pay scheme than other dealerships I’ve worked in though, if only on paper.

Since joining the Company, I have always found the staff and management to be easy to work with and fair. The family values really shine through in most areas most of the time. Sure they drop the ball sometimes, but who hasnt in this most difficult of times. 
Working through the pandemic, supporting key workers in the beginning when nobody knew what the world was facing was admirable in my opinion and the way in which they looked after the staff was above and beyond. I would recomend D M keith to anyone as an employer, if your work ethic is half that of people there, you will not be disappointed.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Approachable owners and not afraid to listen and make changes. 
Good compromise between salary ,working hours and achievable stretch targets. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Antiquated technology systems, having to triplicate customer’s details. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Friendly, passionate and hard working but hard work equals a very good reward. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Sales meeting, pitch work, photos, price changes et cetera . 
Organising hand overs.  Like most dealerships, demanding high standards and justifying so.

Pros: enjoyable and challenging role, kept very busy, direct interaction with customers (if you enjoy that), good systems in place, company car, work every other weekend.

Cons: confusing pay structure (and capped), long hours in which the pay does not justify, getting Annual Leave approved always seemed more exhausting than it should, the Keith bros talk frequently about family values and use the slogan, “let our family take care of yours” yet they don’t even pay their staff maternity (apart from the absolute minimum that the government pay anyway). Not even something like 3 months full pay if you’ve served ‘x’ amount of years as an employee. This was a massive contradiction for me.

The salesmen get badly treated at dm Keith grimsby,the sales targets are unachievable.
When you hit a target they will make excuses and under pay your bonus although you hit it fair and square.
You are. Expected to make over 100 calls per month but if you leave a message it does not count you need to speak to all 100 customers.

I would say to anyone avoid this company as they want everything out of you and don't want to pay you for it.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is a very strange, the have no accountant or they do they can’t do accounts. The longest serving technicians do what they want and get away with it. Long serving people are the dead wood there but get away with doing….nothing

Busy, staff can’t handle the pressure and watching most people have seedy relations with each other

A typical day was filled with pressure, unclear direction, and micromanagement. I learned how not to lead or structure a workplace. Management was disorganised, unapproachable, and reactive rather than supportive. The workplace culture was highly toxic, with little recognition or encouragement—just unrealistic expectations and blame. The hardest part of the job was staying motivated in such a demoralising environment. The only enjoyable part was leaving at the end of the day. Not a place where growth or employee wellbeing is prioritised.
