Very nice hotel with lots of interesting guests coming in all the time which was entertaining. The job entailed dealing with lots of entitled people who wouldn't take no for an answer because they were rich. They would sometimes be catered to and sometimes not depending on which manager was on shift which was mildly annoying. Super easy job but very tedious at times as I just had to stand in one spot for 8-10 hours with only a half an hour break. Biggest drawback was that even though I worked in 2 restaurants that included service charge in their bills I didn't recieve any share of the service charge because I was a 'casual' summer worker which makes no sense and felt very stingy coming from such an expensive hotel. You get delicious free food on shift which was great and the people are all lovely too. The first week or so I worked there I would get sent home when it was quiet in the evenings as there was no point in me being there but after a few weeks they would keep me until the end of my shift if not longer which meant I could be standing there for over 2 hours and not speak to a single guest which was irritating and felt like a waste of the companies resources. I don't mind working my entire shift obviously, but I would have liked a task to do other than staring into space. Overall it was a decent job and I got to meet some interesting people but the lack of service charge and boredom near the end of shifts were the main drawbacks

Working at the Dorchester Hotel Spa is a letdown, 
not just because of the management, but also due to a few leaders in the HR department. 

They only prioritise serving the company's interests rather than caring for the employees.

Their communication may seem polite, supportive and pleasant, 
but it's fake and lacks genuine respect and appreciation for the staff. 
It's all mostly just a show.

The Spa management care about their own gains and supporting each other's promotions, rather than respecting and appreciating the hardworking staff. 

Another problem is the favoritism they show, creating an unfair and unbalanced work environment.

The Dorchester Spa is definitely not a relaxing place for the workers.

If you're looking for a place with real support, care, fairness, and equal opportunities for all staff, 
I suggest looking elsewhere.

Working in that hotel we had a lot of busy days and it was very hard but always the team I was working with made day happier and I always wanted to come to work because off my colleagues.
Once we had an a very important person coming to our hotel,staying at penthouse but the previous guest was still there, it was morning about 7.30 and the next guest should be in about 9.00, we new that it will be very hard for us to set up penthouse back in so little time but we did it all together,there was housekeeping staff,in-room dining staff, engineering, manager assistant,almost all our staff and we did it,penthouse was nice and tidy as usual.That was one of the things I enjoyed about my job,we always helped each other.
My job itself was not easy but my colleagues and our guest made it different-interesting.
That is what I enjoyed the most.

Staff are expected to work longer than their contractual hours to meet “the needs of the business”. When you need personal time  off , the favour isn’t often returned because of “the business”. 

After the interview you are informed that you can’t book any significant time off between May- September & December . Unless you have it agreed in writing by the interviewer,  it’s impossible to get more than 2 days off.  FOH staff  would often quit after Easter because of this rule. 

After the probation period , you can book a free hotel stay within the business… if one becomes available . It’s a lottery to find a hotel in the collection that has more than 1 night available .

It’s a historic brand to work for but be prepared for a lot of sacrifices to your personal life 

Working at this hotel felt like living under a totalitarian regime, given the strict rules and rigid regulations in place. The working hours are extremely demanding, with only a 30-minute break during long shifts. Staff are not even allowed to drink water in front of guests, which reflects the unrealistic expectations set by management.

While the brand name may add value to your CV, the experience is mentally and physically exhausting. It’s not sustainable beyond six months unless you’re willing to sacrifice your personal life entirely. There is little to no time left for family or friends, making it a difficult place to maintain any work-life balance.

I was the first contact guests had upon reaching the hotel, always very rewarding. I was then responsible for the distribution of luggage and car parking. I learned how to handle many situations with regard to guests moods and requirements. My management team were always there to assist on busy days. The team I organised enjoyed their jobs and always rose to the challenge. The hardest aspect of the position came on really busy days when 8 hours flew by. For me the thing I most enjoyed was seeing 60 guests arrive, getting them checked in, taken to their rooms and luggage delivered all on time.

After complaining about being put on 11 hour days for 7 days straight, all to be done in heels that were new as I had just started so I was still breaking them in, I was given a meeting with the owner of coworth park to be told all sorts of excuses before finally admitting that the amount of hours given was unfair and unrealistic, they decided because I brought up this complaint that they would move me from waitressing inspa to the main drawing room, which felt as of they did because they felt threatened and wanted to inflict more stress on me considering it is a lot busier in there and must go up and down stairs constantly.

A very busy environment, there is nothing such as easy days.

I've been improving my english a lot. The offered me the opportunity to attend at the WSET level 2 course which I've passed with distinction. That being said I have learned a lot more about wines.

Good management, always caring about their employees.

Unfortunately not everyone is experienced.

Hardest part of the job is ''Breakfast shifts''. I am not a big fan of Breakfast service.

Most enjoyable part is that everyone is trying to combine having fun with doing their jobs properly.

I absolutely love it here. It is hard work and demanding, but the team are all supportive . 

The rooms are light which make a change to usual working in dark rooms. Training is 5*, and very professional surroundings. Think etiquette. You have to carry yourself well and always appear smiley and bubbly. You will be back to back so looking after yourself outside of work is a must. I.e good sleep, working out for stamina, taking care of yourself.

Great work experience in the high end world of hoteling. Due to the demanding guests and the special requests you need high flexibility and good problem solving skills to be able to survive in this environment. A workplace like this makes you ready for anything else.
