A typical day in this place is like walking through a time warp and going back 40-50 years. The equipment you have to work with and the mentality of most people in the workplace are outdated. You clock in, and there is a spreadsheet with a list of the roles within the warehouse and the names of people who are assigned to that task. You then get to the area of your designated task and will work there until your break time, then when you punch out.

Health and safety, teamwork and motivation from leadership is practically non existent. Managers and supervisors mostly stand around laughing and joking with one another. There are a few exceptions to this and some who supervisors that do actually work, but it is a very small percentage.

The laziness and lack of work ethic from the majority of supervisors and managers has rubbed off on a lot of workers too and there is a large percent of workers who seem to turn up to work with the mentality of doing as little as possible. There are many who are happy to just lean against a wall watching others working and they do this in clear view of supervisors and nothing is ever done about it.

The hardest part about the job is trying to avoid being injured while getting through a shift. There is practically no health and safety. Colleagues walk around pulling 7 foot tall metal cages, the doors often swinging while they pay no attention. I have personally witnessed 2 people being struck by a cage door and the colleague pulling the cage did not even notice. They also constantly walk around with stacked pallets full of parcels that regularly fall off and again, I have witnessed these striking people and have been hit myself by a parcel. Empty pallets are also thrown down and stacked excessively high, often leaning and I have seen these fall over and injure people. Even if you work away from the colleagues who are pulling around pallets and cages with zero regard, there are more dangers. I worked on the chutes and have had boxes of nails come flying at me with nails protruding from the package at 100mph. I have also had a saw come down the chute while I was turned away filling a pallet and the blade scratched my back and left a scar.

I had very few enjoyable times during my experience. There were of course a few colleagues who were good people and I had a good relationship with several of the colleagues I worked directly with. But generally there is a very hostile atmosphere from most of the workers, there are lots of cliques and I have witnessed many people laugh and joke with someone only to immediately talk badly and even racially abuse the same person when they are not around.

I would advise anyone to think carefully about taking a job at this place unless the management problems are addressed and it becomes a more satisfying place to work.

You will be shocked at how this warehouse operates. It got me thinking how is this warehouse not on panorama! The conditions are horrible! Cramped space to work (you are guaranteed to bump into at least 3 people per shift) heavy lifting which I accept BUT to lift something heavy inside of a container that keeps moving and shaking because there is 4 people in a small container full of boxes is not on, on top of that when there is a spillage they do nothing about it because they are in such a rush to get the job done. People are very angry in that warehouse, so many people swearing/shouting at one another. The manager was shouting at someone the other day saying "1 box every 3 seconds or you're out, you got that!!) I overheard and thought wow the poor man has been working tirelessly all day. Fair enough he's the manager. Health and safety wise I cannot believe nobody has investigated this place! The whole warehouse is a hazard, ropes, plastic, spillage, sticks, wood everywhere you look, people trip all the time but I don't know why nobody says anything, maybe they don't know who to speak to. Agency workers get treated like rubbish but thats everywhere I guess and it shouldn't be like that. Induction was signing papers and then off to work, no videos on health and safety no clear demonstration of the work & it all lasted 15 minutes top! 1 man started shouting at me saying you put the box in the wrong trolley, he was screaming! I said I'm sorry I didn't know, he replies dont you have eyes are you blind, I said sorry again and then I said who's the manager here he replies I am in charge here you report to me, i said you don't look like the manager (as he didnt have a special hivis) he replies 'and have you seen your face, huh, huh? I mean the levell of embarrassment from this warehouse is astonishing. I really wish someone would look into it further.

I started on split shifts 3am start till 7am then 4 pm till 8 pm but forget about sticking to the morning finishing time more like 8.30 finish, learn to sleep during the day, it will save your life because you are getting next to nothing during the night, job and life balance is basically non existent you sleep to go to work, if you try to do something other then sleep during the day you are going to regret it for the next 2 days at least while you try to catch up on sleep, this is the part of the job that I hated the most, you don't exist to the world any more. Side note before I go any further other shifts are available which I moved onto and the remainder of my time there was a lot better.

to the actual job mornings are easy enough parcels comes off trucks you sort it on a conveyer belt and put it in the right bays for the vans to collect, just make sure you are fast at this (good hand eye coordination and attention to detail) because it will get hectic especially during the busy sessions (Christmas), I enjoyed the evening shift (backshift) vans come back with collections or card lefts and you have to sort them into a complex system of parcels going to different ends of the county as well as dealing with the added pressure of international parcels, this shift is a lot more mental based you need to think where things are going instead of just mindlessly putting things somewhere at a half glance.

The management are great I personally don't have a problem with them just take things in, keep your head down, work hard and they will have a laugh with you and it can be a good relationship.

A typical day involved speaking to customers on the phone while tracking their shipments.

I learned about how logistics worked. 

Management were awfully uneducated, it was embarrassing. They obviously haven’t been trained and treated you like subhuman scum. They acted all high and mighty and belittled most staff unless you were in their clique. 

They don’t care about your mental or physical health and will virtue signal with the flavour of the month issue via email to all employees but when you go to them with such an issue, they will gaslight you into thinking that your concerns are invalid. 

I dreaded going into work everyday because of the toxic office culture, wondering what management would want to put on us that day. The atmosphere was hostile and very blamey. If you made a mistake, you’d receive a PIP, letter of concern and sometimes further action despite not being trained adequately and being given inconsistent information about processes!

The team leaders were a big clique, and you won’t go very far unless your face fits.

KPIs and targets were unrealistic and I was exhausted. It’s one of those jobs that when you go home, you complain about how drained and annoyed you are with your job. 

Many of my colleagues left in a short space of time which speaks enormous volumes.

Glad I left, the pay is an insult as well as the management and supervisor team who act like gods despite being paid a few hundred quid than you. 

If you like a deep dive job then this is the position for you. If you like constant stress then this is the perfect position. 

It's a shame, I worked as a depot operative and so I worked between the levels of warehouse, drivers, my team (admin) and management. When you work in a corporation who is truly backwards and who can't even support their employees let alone, upgrade the technology you work with then you have a problem. 

The culture was great, as long as my manager wasn't around. I can't tell you how many grown men I have seen cry, due to being forced to do something they possibly cannot due to their van. 

FedEx caused me so much stress that even now, I have moved on, I only need to see the logo and it brings it all back to me... PTSD possibly, and due to the amount of stress I lost my memory.

It was a toxic environment when I worked there due to management. Even though I have heard that manager has left, I wouldn't invest my time not even if I was dead working for this corporation ever again. 

Company is more focused on money and stats and forcing their staff to do things they don't want like forcing drivers to go back for delivery's despite the driver is correct in their sops. 

The tech is so old that, its fifty, the power pad devices often break. When I left.. A good few other members of staff left after me because they couldn't work there anymore due to the toxic environment.

MANAGED THE ROUTING OUT PROCEDURE TO ENSURE THE DAILY WORKLOAD COULD BE COMPLETED TO THE STRICT GUIDELINES SET DOWN BY FEDEX UK. IN A VERY BUSY & NO NONSENSE ENVIRONMENT... NEXT STAGE AFTER DRIVERS HAD BEEN DISPATCHED WAS TO DEAL WITH THE CUSTOMER QUERIES , INBOUND FREIGHT ISSUES , DEPOT IMFORMATION & FULL REPORTS SENT TO HEAD OFFICE & LIASING WITH FEDEX SITES BASED IN AMERICA & INDIA ... ALSO DEALT WITH DRIVER QUERIES & ENTERED THERE TIME SENSITIVE SIGNATORY`S & TIME ONTO FEDEX`S OWN WEBSITE ... ALSO DEALT FACE TO FACE WITH CUSTOMERS & PROVIDED AS MUCH INFORMATION AS THEY REQUIRED & TO PROCESS THERE TRANSACTIONS ETC ... MID AFTERNOON DRIVERS RETURNED WITH INBOUND COLLECTIONS & FREIGHT WHICH BECAME A ROLE REVERSAL OF THE MORNING OPERATIONS ...CORALATE , COMPLETE RELEVANT PAPERWORK & DOCUMENTATION , COMPLETE OUTBOUND MANIFEST ENSURING ALL ITEMS WERE DISPATCHED ON TIME & MEET THE DEAD LINES SET BY FEDEX ... CONNECTION TRAINS , PLANES & LOGISTICAL REQUIREMENTS ...

The training given was erratic. After 2 months they were still only just remembering to tell me about daily tasks I should've been doing all along and told about from the start.
The department I was in the work was rare that despite being on a 8 hour shift I would've been finished as early as one hour in to it, leaving me with up to 7 hours to "just pretend to look busy" (team leader's words). 
When I was trained in other areas I was expected to be working at expert level after 2 examples of what I was supposed to do and they were unforgiving if/when a mistake was made. 
When I found a department to assist in in which I excelled or was requested I was forbidden from going there because it didn't benefit my department despite there being nothing for me to do but several hours to get through until end of shift.
Kept mentioning how the exam I was going to be sent for is extremely difficult but no way to study or learn anything for the test to prepare as all training for it is unavailable until you got a contract.
 The warehouse is so empty and the work so scarce pretty much all departments have hardly any work to keep them busy for even just half a shift.
There was also some very backstabby, two faced people and a lot of cliches.

commission structure was changed from 10% to 2% With tripled increase in KPI. blatant levels of in-house misconduct, verbal abuse and even ethnic race jokes, from team leaders and other employees, being witnessed by senior Sales managers, and passed off as banter. Team leaders incompetent at taking action over unruly behaviour.
Massive incompetence levels from sales manager to address malpractice of in-house double standards, over disciplanary policies, and abuse of position by Sales manager, to bully and purposely target any employee, who didn't fit in, because they refused to suck up, when what they really required was empathy and genuine support, instead corporate "lip service" from senior management. Overall, a thoroughly negative place to work.

A regular day will involve routing and loading your parcels onto your vans in whichever order you want, followed by being routed out with your run list then leaving depot and driving to your delivery area. Once all deliveries have been delivered or attempted its on to any collection that are based within your contracted postcode then back to depot to empty all parcels at depot and finalise any parcels that were unable to be delivered on the day. 
What ive learned is confidence on the roads in a 3.5T van, communication skills,time keeping skils and the knowledge of different areas around the contracted postcode areas. 
The hardest part of the job is initally learning the route you are taking on then routing your deliveries to correspond with any particular timed deliveries you may have. This can be stressful if things are going against you. The most enjoyable part is when the final delivery or collection has been delivered or collected and on the way back to the depot or when the final parcel has left your van back at the depot and you're on the way home.

A day at FedEx consists of carrying parcels that range from being light to extremely heavy which are taken from vans then put in cages or wrapped on pallets these are then put in "Arctics"(a lorry). From doing this for now 3 years I have learned how to wrap pallets, use pallet trucks, lift large parcels with ease, get the job done in the most efficient way, work well under stress and even communicate as a team. The management was friendly and respectful but can be rather strict to keep workers disciplined. the workplace ranged from people just out of school to people nearly old enough to get a pension. the most strenuous part of FedEx is that people say there the hardest worker yet they really haven't been working hard constantly enough to say that and this can be stressful when i feel like me and some of the other workers are doing our job yet there's people standing around where there's a job to be done. The most enjoyable part of FedEx is the fact i know most of the workers personally so i get along with everyone.
