When I first started footlocker 8 years ago it was an enjoyable place to work. Competitive sales team made for a great environment, this was mostly due to personal commission earned from sales. However over the last few years the company has completely shifted and made budget cuts that effect all store members. Now 90% of associates are under 18 due to footlocker paying minimum wage, my store lost all our best members when they made this change. Instead of commissions it’s now a monthly bonus dependent on store KPIs and league KPIs. Terrible decision. 
Easy enough to progress through store roles however always felt like a dead end. No real display of opportunities outside of store level, so if store manager is your dream, go for it! 
Be careful not to speak against the new changes footlocker implement or you will be blacklisted for promotions. Avoid sticking up for your sales team during management meetings with HR & other bosses as they will also blacklisted you for this. Distract managers we’re always clueless and completely unhelpful, never had an answer to your questions. 
Lastly the discount has been limited yet again, now new releases can’t be purchased with discount and store members even have to join a league raffle for a chance to purchase, absolutely bonkers. 

Great company turned terrible in just a few years. 

Daily work load for Footlocker manager was a heavy load, I learned a lot in my 5 years working up the ranks in the company and my passion for the job was high.

Daily jobs included, VM merchandising, conversion of footfall, rotor, deliveries, RTVs, KPI sales, e-mails, conference calls, keeping on top of theft, audits, motivating staff and keeping the work place happy, friendly and approachable.

Most enjoyable thing about the job was meeting new people everyday and being able to confidently approach and speak to them not just for conversion of sales but for the passion I had simply just to make a person smile, I always tried to push this outlook onto my staff at my time in Footlocker EU to achieve the best results, a positive workplace always achieves the best results.

Hardest part of the job itself was keeping up with the workload that Footlocker expect from you, as a manager my daily job load was at least 30+ all while maintaining the store and that's even with staff members working hard also, it was always tough to keep the management above me happy because you never truly feel appreciated for all the hard work you put in.

honestly the worst place I have ever worked.

Poor, manipualtive management who threaten staff of reduction of hours/shifts due to not selling enough etc. this is a horrible move, as more often than not; the managers would put like 8 people on the floor on a day that wouldn't be a busy day.
i was threatened on multiple occasions however they didn't actually do anything as it was just a tactic to push you intp selling more stuff/being busy.

waited months for a new uniform which I didn't receive yet was reserved. new staff would get their uniform/jacket however when i asked, i was repeatedly told it hadn't came yet which was frustrating.

pay was trash, the commission was interesting at first until you realise you make the same as the people in the stockroom WITH commission. this is a clear way to justify paying under 21 minimum wage and entice staff into making more sales.

i was denied my contracted weekly 8 hours on several occasions, in particular at the beginning of my time at this trash company.

also, this job is perfect for u if u wanna be a cleaner too. loved getting paid minimum wage to clean and get treated awfully.

During my time at Footlocker, I had minimal tasks as opposed to permanent and even temporary employees, yet this was due to my work placement. However, I enjoyed my time there immensely as the store had been organised very effectively both for the consumer and the employee, whether we were stocking shelves or providing the customer with the display product it was convenient for both parties. Moreover, the environment in which our tasks had occurred was beneficial in the sense that there was many interactions that you could benefit from whether with consumers or other employees. Also, my co-workers had made my experience enjoyable to say the least as they were very welcoming and supportive during my brief time at the franchise.

However, due to the store's location it was difficult during some hours of the day to meet consumer demands as there were many people flocking into the store asking for the same product. In addition, the atmosphere being quite busy and hectic had been overwhelming in some cases for me personally and had sometimes caused me to retreat into the stock rooms this would occur three times in five minutes on a busy day.

Since I have started wokring at footlocker is really take away my socail life, doing closing shifts 1-10:30pm lead me to only work eat ans sleep. The managmet is okay reason being there nice and you can always help if needed however they dont really listen to the emplyees giving an example ive told my maneger that im going away for few days for my holiday, turns out he forgot to schedule it, also ive been asking for more morning shifts so i could leave at 4 amd get on with my life but that unfrontly never happened. Ive learning nothing benefecail only knokladge ive learned was where all the boxes are as im part of the stockroom. The hardest part of the job must be the end of it as we have to take in boxes im talking about 100 on some days, doing that after a 10 hour shitf is a joke. After lifting those boxes daily i gained a back problem. Workplace is mostly clean however the canteen smells of human waste as there is a toilet pipe going through canteen which makes is unberable to eat. This job overall i joke £6.40 ph (im 19) is not worth it amd there is no future there.

I spent just under three years at Footlocker and although I’ve experienced some enjoyable and some less unenjoyable times, overall I have to admit working at footlocker allowed me to fully embrace my confidence and comfortability when working with others and to customers. At footlocker their USP in comparison to other competitors was their goal to reach the upmost customer satisfaction as possible. This allowed me to gain a much richer experience than I would have by joining their competitors. Also in order to reach the goal of customer satisfaction they considered teamwork something that was essential, this made it so most employees were friendly and helped me become not just a better employee but also a good colleague. Whilst at footlocker my role was in sales, however I also was taught how to use the tills, stock inventory and even spent a few months as recruitment for the company. Management at footlocker did change often however the store manager was with me for my time at footlocker and although we didn’t always see eye to eye he was a massive part of what I learnt whilst working.

I enjoyed working with the public in this role, most of my colleagues and the general atmosphere was exciting. However, only after being hired was I tole that it was a sales role on top of customer service, you were forced to try and sell £25 insoles to customers who were already purchasing shoes costing £100 or more. This at times was extremely stressful as they did not consider what the customers financial situation may be and the desperation to keep selling to them was obvious and embarrassing. The manager at the store was very demanding, not supportive or considerate at all. Many times I had to stick up for other colleagues as I felt that the manager would take advantage of them in terms of giving them unnecessary extra work as he knew they would not want to protest. Often they would not be given their breaks as staff were short which is of course against they law, clean up would take as long as the manager decided and if the manager was in a bad mood we would be kept back for ridiculous amounts of time.

The job environment was really comfortable, always smiles and fun working with the customers and helping them get what they needed. I learned many things in the company such as how to handle money and a safe, how to communicate with others in a good manner, problem solving and etc, the hardest part of the job for me was learning how to know everything to operate the cash register but i learned it quickly, and now i'm an expert and help others when training new employees on how to work the cash register. The most enjoyable part of the job for me was knowing that every time I walked in the work place it was all smiles, and just a good atmosphere. Also being given a task that needed to be done for the day, which allowed me to always have a focus. The job overall was a great experience- good people, and always something that needed to be done.

This specific store I worked in, I absolutely loved it. I’ve read previous reviews on here about management in stores but I can honestly say that the management team I worked under were amazing. Really understanding in certain situations, great role models and if I helped them, they helped me. I was treated with nothing but respect. The job itself was great for me, I loved it. Setting myself daily goes to achieve a certain amount of Shoe care and CSP ( Surveys ) was fun too and it also meant it was motivation to hit store targets. Adored my time there but unfortunately it came to an end due to difficult circumstances within my personal life. Anyone thinking of applying, do it! You’ll never regret it, hopefully if a store opens up in my area, I’ll be first to apply. Best job I’ve worked so far and has its perks also.
