I'll start with the pros... the money was good. So... that's the pros done.

The cons... senior management rarely seemed to have a handle on things and there was a distinct culture of people at management level being obstructive rather than cooperative. The blame culture was rife.

Departments operated in silos with a pervading "not my job" mentality. This was a huge contrast to the shop floor where anyone would bend over backwards to help but then I've seen people on the shop floor being reprimanded for "helping without being authorised". It almost seemed like no one was interested in getting anything out of the door as long as they were getting paid for turning up.

Contracts were badly written with clauses that the senior management didn't understand or couldn't explain themselves. The document filing system was non-existent, management and accounting software didn't work properly so hundreds of man hours were spent every month manually updating accounting systems and disturbingly the monthly and quarterly accounts were constantly massaged and fudged to try and make them look better than they were.

It was also the kind of company where'd they'd be happy for you to spend a few thousand pounds entertaining a client for dinner but you'd get chewed out for buying a £50 piece of equipment the test or build teams urgently needed to compete a factory acceptance test.

The good parts of working for FET are projects around ROV's, good salaries and compensation packages and learning in a fast-paced environment.

The con parts:

- poor management
- less or no intensive trainings (don't feel mentored or coached enough in my role)
- "swim or sink" method
- the feedback and criticism make you feel like you've been thrown in at the deep end.
- blame culture can appear
- long / old-fashioned processes
- lack of communication

What is the best part of working at the company?
Diversity. Different jobs or builds each day made it interesting

Management not interested in keeping their word.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very old fashioned. Very modern technology but old fashioned and outdated values

Not difficult work wise but stressfull for reasons indicated earlier

Great place to work. Interesting company. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Location but bearable from York, Scarborough and Middlesborough

People are great and good benefits

Interesting, different, challenging

This is one of the best companies that I have ever ever ever ever ever ever ever worked for and would recommend that If your offered a job there grab it with both hands and you are a lucky man or woman as it's a BRILLIANT outstanding top grade place to work

Bringing 5 businesses together into one facility had it's challenges, difficult to bring all the people together effectively, but it was all coming together nicely.  Too many changes in senior management, which caused confusion as each time the management changed so did the strategy for the company.

Enjoyable role, excellent relationship with team. Challenges and targets met with introduction of H&S, quality management system using LEAN and 5s methodologies which I had the resposibility of implementing.

Started well with this company, it was small and friendly company, good to work for. It was later incorporated into a bigger company when the Oil and Gas industry started to struggle. Despite reassurance from the top brass, the company had to let some people go.

Learned an awful lot about myself. An excellent and varied job when busy. Gained a lot of offshore experience. Over time always available when busy. In order to gain the most from every avaliable opportunity some small sacrifices need to made.
