A typical day at work would start at around 10:45am, during a non-seasonal Monday-Friday work week. You would wait to be let in by the gates/turnstiles worker, if the main gates are not already partially open, then proceed too clock On Site by the security hut. Depending on the time of your arrival you could either head around the North Deck and to the Clock-In area, or simply wait up in the break room, out of sight for a bit until you  are able too Clock-In. After clocking in, you would proceed to grab you floats from the Cash Office and open up the shop, setting the tills to the required amount and turning on all the required equipment for the day. Once the opening procedure is finished you would check where you are located and what tasks need to be completed during the day with either your Manager or Supervisor(s), communicating this with other members of your team, working as productively as possible.
The workplace culture is very good between members of staff, no department is looked down upon or treated any different, we all understand the difficulties of the jobs we do. The workplace generally has a good sense of comradery and humour, which is always needed in stressful times and easy going days. Management is generally good but does suffer from a lack of communication, often causing issues that don't need to exist if they simply communicated more, listening too the staff that actually did the jobs and took note of their feedback. The hardest part of the job is the same as any, the customers, if it isn't a lack of communication with management, it is the customers thinking they know better or putting all the blame on you. Unwilling or simply unable too sacrifice any of their time simply too listen to what they need to know, their are only two types of customers in this job, the kind, patient and understanding customers who have the time too listen to what they need to know and then the customers who want everything yesterday, every delay, error or negative too their day is your fault and they will be more than happy too remind you of it as often as they can. They come in enough times but still don't pay attention too things they've seen and heard as much as you have, but they still think they know your job better than you.
The most enjoyable part of the job is most certainly your co-workers, most are good natured, hard working and good humoured, with few exceptions. They always make the days go by faster and more enjoyably, even during the hardest days when nothing seems to go right. A happy and understanding customer is the only other thing that is enjoyable, it makes it feel like you have done a good job.
I have learned that communication between workers is ESSENTIAL, no matter how low down or high up you are, nothing good can be achieved without proper communication! Everybody is learning and patience is a much needed skill, either with staff or customers, some patience and understanding goes a long way. I have also learned that at the end of the day as long as you do your best, you have done all you can, despite anything that may go wrong, your fault or not, always do your best, be honest, with staff and customers. This job is just as hard and important as other jobs, take it SERIOUSLY, it isn't just a season, for some people it's for life.

Typical day at work;
A typical day at work would be arriving on time in the morning and going straight to the ride that I am scheduled to work on for that day. Next I fully clean the ride and look out for any customers that may want a go. when I customer wants a go I go through the health and safety requirements with them and tell them how the ride works. I then start the ride and stop it when intended too.

management;
The management are very friendly and clear on what they expect of you. They can be rude at times, but they are mostly nice to the employees.
Co-workers;
My co-workers are very friendly and chatty. Most of them are hard working and care about the pier a lot. 
Hardest part of the job;
I would have to say the hardest part of the job s standing for six hours until you have a break, but once your used to that its completely fine. Another hard part would be if someone forgets to cover for you so you can have a break, I have gone eight hours before without a break.
Most enjoyable part of the job;
The best part would be the regular friendly customers that come on the pier and chat to you while your working.

This job I would describe as a "CV Filler", you will be put in diffeent consessions doing different things and it's very good for young people as I've seen our young new starts (16 year olds) grow into more confident people after working at the pier. 
That unfortunately is the nicest thing I have to say about the pier as it has really taken a toll on my mental health. It is a very fast paced working environment; During training you will have someone with you to whizz though the opening and closing procedures and are excpexted to do it all yourself during your next shift. 
You will notice very quickly how much the pier clings to nepotism to keep their staff ( family members, partners, siblings given jobs and preferential treatment ).
Unless there is an event that night ( which undoubtably you will be working ) you wont know what time the pier is closing that day, because most of the time, the management dont know either untill the last minute.
I am working here as someone over 18, living in the centre of town, with a high rent on a 0 hour contract. The only other thing is that I love whoever I work with, the floor staff are lovely and I've made some lifelong friends since working here; however I feel bad for wanting to leave as I'll leave them behind.

Its a great place to work however the work granted is on a zero hour bases which doesn't always help as it means there are months where my outgoings are higher than my earnings which of course makes traveling to and from work a real problem sometimes.

A typical day doesn't really exist here because each days tasks are different there is always a little bit of variety within the job one day i could be working on the till the next day i could be handing out prizes. for the arcade its different every day which makes the job enjoyable.

my colleagues are great people and we all get on well. All in all its a fun place to work.

I have been able learn a great deal of skills such as the till operations, customer service, and all other vital skills for running a shop and assisting customers.

I have also had the opportunity to operate some of the rides in the complex which is also fun as you get to see all types of people and its a nice friendly social atmosphere.

The best 4 years of my life! 
Starting with minimal event background the pier events team was my foot in the door within the events industry and I couldn’t be more grateful of the guidance the experience and the fun! The team turned into my pier family and my best friends! 
Yes the hours are long, but what events job isn’t? It comes with the industry. But the long hours are worth it when you see your clients joy from the event you have made happen for them! Such a rewarding industry to be in. 
The variety of events will never bore and will 100% teach you which path you would like to take and which area of events you would like to specialise in. For me it has always been weddings and now it is. My career has flourished and that’s all thanks to The Grand Pier Events Team!
You’d be stupid if you turned such an opportunity down. One day you could be organising a child party for 10 then next a charity ball for 600! 
Always take the plunge you will learn everything you need to know being part of such an incredible team!

During my time working here, I gained a lot of knowledge. Mainly how things should not be run and what not to do as a manager. The hours were set unless you were working the event which is understandable and not an issue. Salary was okay, but the same job title else where were getting much more. Work-life balance was probably the best thing, due to set Monday-Friday hours or working during events. Managers and above were rude and unsupportive. No training was given and when mistakes were made the manager would shout and swear at you. Most days I left feeling down about how I was treated and felt dread that I had to return the next day. I thought that working at this company would be great, as its such a unqiue venue with multiple events they could hold. Unfortunately this was not the case and I was left very disapointed. 

I’ve been at the pier for a year and a half, it’s alright for a few hours a week but because it’s zero hours contract the hours are very unreliable.
You have to pay for food (£4 a meal), get 15 minutes for a break and could be left without a break for eight hours in busy times.
Staff are mostly nice and management can be nice but there’s no chance of advancing.
Everyone is on minimum wage so you could be with someone who’s over 25 and they get £7.50 whilst anyone under 18 gets £4.05 even when doing the same job which is frustrating.
Could be called and cancelled last minute/asked to work last minute.
Not a great job but is alright for a first job/little bit of money.

A typical day at work would be spending time working on a brief written on a bit of paper, completing that brief then the who concept changing immediately. A valuable waste of companies time. The recent structure of management (and there is a lot of them who all think they are in charge) just play each day/week as it comes with no plan, everyday is just winging it. Previously the business was being led by some really ambitious. intelligent people but for some reason that changed and unsurprisingly - it all went down hill from there. The culture is toxic and negative, which comes as a surprise in what is supposed to be a fun place to visit. 

It is what it is. It’s a busy place with lots going on and lots of different roles to keep the business going. 

I have found the management excellent and the staff I work with and those I don’t all very polite friendly and not had any issues at all. 

The work can be stressful at times but it’s a massive arcade and needs to be run smoothly but I love the buzz. 

We are left to get on with what we have to do and that suites me with no issues at all. 

I am enjoying my time there. 

My only real issue is I think they should have security on site when known busy periods will happen like school / bank holidays when some people come on the pier and cause issues that staff are not really trained to deal with or should have to. 

My typical day at work is never the same, I have learnt so much while ive been at the Grand pier, From stage building to jet washing to maintenance and a whole lot more! Ive worked across almost every single department learning many new skills. The management and firm but friendly and always looking to help out if they can. Ive been at the Pier many years and the career progression has been great, if your willing to work for it then you could progress very well in the company. Some days are stressful but the majority of the days are laid back and enjoyable.
