I have over a decade of experience working for Grosvenor, and I have seen it go from a reasonable employer, with competent management, to the joke it is today.

Theres been a mass exodus of experienced staff, the level to which staff were trained has massively dropped, 6 years without a payrise and even now the annual pay rises are less than inflation.

Grosvenor is also not above "questionable" tactics, only recently forcing all staff across to 4 weekly pay rather than monthly and using a loan application to get agreement signatures off staff (it had to be completed and signed whether you wanted to take a weeks wage loan or not, the company had known about the upcoming change for nearly a year, yet only decided to act and give notice a month before hand, breaching contract and kick starting a wave of Union/legal action in London)

Large wave of redundencies just before xmas and again further cutbacks in late jan after yet another management restructure and staff numbers cull.

Half the staff in most casinos, and still the company expects more and more from their staff, while they strip out premium rate for unsociable hours, removed staff food and held back annual pay rises repeatedly.Working patterns are horrific, most casinos being run on skeleton crews and there are no longer set shift patterns, a lot of the time its a case of randomly showing people in for 8, 9, 10 or even longer shifts just to fill a gap on a rota, regardless of if that means having to go through a complete 24hour clock in working patterns within the space of a week.

The entire focus is pumping money to shareholders and senior management, and they couldnt care less about their staff or the effect it has on them.

The law also seems to be a "fluid" concept to a lot of the people now employed as managers or GM's, with more and more of them being people with no actual experience in the industry itself, no real willingness to learn the core of it and an expectation that everyone else will just know what to do and fix it.
They're in place to "manage" the people, rather than the business.
When i started in the industry the management were people you could learn from (often quite hard-nosed characters, but knew their stuff and knew the business) these days its the staff that have to teach the managers how to do their jobs in a lot of cases.

Avoid them like the plague, you'll like the first couple of weeks then you'll realise that you are nothing but a slab of meat to fill a vacancy, and that they'll treat you like you are a servant at their beck and call.

Im currently in the process of finding another job its just getting worse and worse.

It used to be a good place to work. Once.
All the perks that there used to be have been gotten rid of in order to save money. The company does not care in the slightest about the staff. Since reopening after lock down they've been desperate to get back the money that was lost during that time and began to introduce different procedures and things that just don't work as intended. The experienced staff explain this to management but are told they are just being negative. Eventually the experienced staff leave and are replaced with trainees. But the place is so short staffed that the quality of training is being cut. My training school was eight weeks. The new trainees are lucky if they get four before being expected to deal a game!

Shift patterns are awful. It's not uncommon to get ten days in a row. You could finish a ten hour shift at 6am and be back at work to start the next one at 5pm.

For the long hours and awful shifts you get barely more than minimum wage, it's a joke.

This is a business based on statistics and probability, but management are so superstitious. You can be dealing a game with a supervisor AND manager breathing down your neck because they genuinely believe that their presence effects the result. It's unbelievable.

If you complain about anything, you need to stop being negative. If you come up with an idea that would improve something, it is ignored, sometimes even openly mocked.

You are only as good as your result. If you win them money, you are fantastic. If you lose money? You're like something they scrapped from their shoe.

Tips are shrinking because incompetence is growing.
If you want to learn the job today, you have to pretty much teach yourself. If you learn anything it is from being thrown in at the deep end, true sink or swim. 
Sometimes you can be expected to cover departments that you have minimal to no training on.

It is very difficult to get fired, even if you're terrible at the job because they are so desperate.

The only advancement is "dead men's shoes" You only get a place if someone else leaves. Then it is in order of who has been there longest, regardless of ability.

The one and only benefit is holidays. You have to work bank holidays but gain an extra holiday day for each one.
But you have to work two of the following- Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years day. I say two, but usually three and sometimes all of them, making it hard on your family life.

Reception
8 hour shifts starting from 7am, 3pm or 11pm, sometimes 6pm on weekends. Really lovely small team of 6/7 people, most shifts you work alone unless it's Friday/Saturday night. Greeting customers, giving tours, registering new members, taking telephone calls etc. 

Communication between departments and letting the reception team know what was going on needs to be improved; if the reception team aren't aware, it can affect the customer's first impression! 
Sometimes you can work without a break, depending on the management or someone who can cover you....management can be inconsistent, i.e some allow guests into the club and others are apprehensive, some will be there straight away to give a toilet break and others need to be reminded (twice on occasion), some follow slightly different policies to others. Was a little frustrating!

Food & Beverage
8 hour shifts starting from 7am, 3pm, 5pm, 6pm, 9pm and 11pm. Team of up to 15/16 people, weekdays usually 3-4 people at a time and weekends maybe 6-7 people (although more often now this has been swapped, the weekends tend to be short staffed and the weekdays there are too many staff). Bar service, waitressing tables, valet for the gaming tables, serving up to 50-60 people in a poker room usually by yourself, cleaning and cellar duties etc. On weekends, you're usually assigned a task for your shift, such as working in the restaurant or staying at the bar. 
There is a serious lack of training for new members, they usually learn as they go and develop the behaviours of other staff members (stand at the bar and wait to be called, chatting amongst themselves and ignoring customers). Management here needs to deal with conflict more effectively and learn how to be the bad guy, so that the team can be more productive.


20% premium rate after midnight (earn £7.20 an hour, then £8.40 an hour between 12am and 7am). 
Free staff meal on shift if you work more than 6 hours.
Employee awards evening one day of the year to recognise your efforts
Employee discounts on a range of things (hotels, restaurants, travel, retail etc)
Majority of staff (I'd say 70 out of 100) have English as a second language, so it's cool to learn new languages and new cultures!

The ONLY enjoyable thing is the great friendships i’ve made here. That is it. 

Firstly, how can we justify a 50p p/hr pay rise.. How does that show your staff that you value and appreciate them? And then start changing the company logo (for the billionth time) and layouts, how is that going to make your staff feel? 
Head office need to realise that making cosmetic changes aren’t going to make customers stay.. 
You need to up the salaries, listen to the staff, help them actually progress, not just put them on development plans and then not give them a pay rise. 
You’ve got training school after training school of just bad dealers, and this is putting a strain on your current dealers and inspectors. Customers are no longer just able to play without having to have their game slowed down or having their dealer make constant mistakes. Senior staff (inspectors and GS’s) and  dealers who are doing really well (who should get promoted) aren’t getting the appreciation or validation from management alongside absolute terrible pay.. of course they’re leaving, and it’s a no brainer as to why we aren’t getting customers through the door. 
The turnover is ridiculous, and being constantly understaffed is so bad on stress levels and motivation for staff. 
They’d rather use you than promote you and they don’t make you feel like you’re appreciated. 
The no social life is no joke. If i didn’t get on so well with my colleagues, i’d hate working here. I never see friends or have time for family. And it’s hard to want to go out on your days off when you finish at 5am on your first day off. 
Yes that’s what you sign up for when you work in casinos, i get that, but at least there could be more consistency with rotas, like maybe set days off, rolling rotas, something where you can actually make plans in the future outside of work, how can you live your life with only knowing your shifts for the next two weeks. No one should have to beg for certain days off or specific shifts. 
The understanding and empathy when it comes to mental health and neurodiversity. Nah, there is none. 
There’s a lot wrong with Grosvenor Casinos and they aren’t going to be able to fix them if they don’t listen to or care about their staff.. 

Since I started, I have felt constantly supported, which helps since it's constantly understaffed and staff has to learn to cover multiple departaments. There's a big focus on employee mental wellbeing from the management, but, as far as I've heard from my co-workers, a lot of things keep being swept under the rug. The staff is absolutely amazing to work with, but some supervisers can be unbelievable degrading (making multiple staff members cry/quit) and any grievences are ignored. Management will act very compassionate and friendly to your face, but can will also be forgetfull, push problems off instead of solving and put on pressure at the worst times. Impressing any higher-ups will also be more important that anything staff has to say. You get your own locker in the staffroom, there is a microwave, a kettle and a fridge, but nothing is being cleaned, things are constantly breaking down and it takes ages to repair anything (the mens bathroom has constant issues, a partition has been on a verge of collapse for the past few years, male employees have to keep using the customer bathrooms). There is a staff discount on food, but the menu keeps getting smaller and the prices keep increasing (sometimes free food will be left at the staffroom after buffets, which can improve your mood on a shift drastically). Instant coffee, tea and sugar are provided in the staffroom, but soft drinks, which are free for customers, have to be bought. There are multiple staff parties througout the year, some of which have dress-up themes (dress-to-impress New Years, Halloween, ect.), but, because the casino is open all year round, some people will have to miss out to run the shift. Scheduling can be completely atrocious costing employees their sleep schedules and destroying any routine they may have and with the new scheduling system, there is no way to swap shifts as everyone is doing different ammount of hours everyday.

Overall, not the worst place to work, as everyone involved is compassionate and supportive, but if it wasn't for the staff, it could get very depressing.

Based on my experience, support from management was extremely limited. When problems arose, managers were often unavailable or reluctant to get involved, leaving employees to deal with difficult situations without meaningful backing.
Training followed a clear “sink or swim” approach. Onboarding felt minimal, and employees were expected to perform quickly with little structured guidance, which created unnecessary stress, especially during the early months.
Customer behavior was another ongoing challenge. In my experience, intoxicated or disruptive customers were often tolerated, and inappropriate behavior was sometimes overlooked if those customers were considered valuable to the business. This made it difficult for staff to feel protected or supported when enforcing boundaries.
Progression did not feel performance-based. Advancement appeared to depend more on social fit than on consistent effort, reliability, or ambition. Employees who spoke up or raised concerns did not always feel encouraged to grow, which contributed to a culture of silence.
Overall, this workplace may suit individuals who are comfortable working under pressure with limited training and support. However, for those who value structured development, fair recognition, and clear boundaries around customer behavior, this environment may not be a good fit.

A typical day at Grosvenor casino would consist of welcoming and signing customers in to the gaming floor. Other duties would consist of keeping up with department related computer documents and ensuring that all other departments are kept in the know of any changes which come through reception. on a normal day i would be ringing existing customers providing information on new promotional offers and up selling trying to regain there custom. 

The management at the casino was little too be desired and very unorganized and it is clear for staff to see that they are only interested in their own financial gain. 

The main skills I have gained are excellent typing skills, excellent customer service skills whether face to face or over the phone and also how to deal with volatile customers. 

I have made many good friends in my time working at the casino and even though staff morale was low everyone did their job to the highest possible standard.

The hardest part of the job is dealing with barred customers and dealing with situations where customers gambling habits are clearly out of control and are upset with themselves for the way their addiction has taken over as a responsible business Grosvenor as a company have to work alongside the gambling commission and bar any customer that they believe has a problem.

The most enjoyable part of the job is greeting and speaking with many of the regular visitors and also the people that I worked alongside.

I would come in and emidetly start cleaning becose the other staff were too buissy to wash out the cups propaly meaning they would come out dirty.

after that i would go around the casino asking customers if they were ok on drinks and taking back any dirty cups to be cleaned when i dident have any orders.

i would also talke Alchol and Food orders as well as deliver seaid food and drink to the customers which were sometimes frustrating becouse they would move locashions and sometimes walk out all together.

the poker players were rude and unkind offten triggering one of my attacks to were i would have to leave and try to carm down. i did achaly have an aspurgus related multdown welst working there which resulted in me ingering my leg and omost one of the customers from falling after trying to bring her a hevy stoll, this resulted in me crying and finding a hard time trying to breath and talk.

the management and staff was very kind and wellcoming to me, within a cupple days i felt part of a family and was soon comftable anounth around them to let down my gaurd.

the hardest part of the job were the nightshifts becouse i would have to go to bed late and my mom would always wake me up supper early to the point i only got 3 hours of sleep

the most enjoyable part of my job was seeing the happy customers when i would make them a drink with a pattern disighn on them and asking about there day with the regulers.

This was a pretty good company to work for a little while ago, certainly not a well paying job but the people made it worthwhile...then almost all the quality managers moved on and we got lumped with one of the worst GMs I've ever had the misfortune of working with. It was very evident off the bat that he was brought in to 'fix' us as we were a slightly underperforming club (there were reasons for this but it was head office related and not worth getting into here) which really only caused a slightly below average club to alienate many of its regulars, pushing them to alternative casinos. The staff are merely seen as numbers in a spreadsheet now so staff retention is dire, expect to be trained on many tasks by someone 3 weeks your senior. The managers all want different things and there seems to be little to no communication between them so you're often stuck trying to do the impossible and angering one or both people giving you instructions. There's also no real benefits of working here, there are some nights out but those are 95% organised by the non managerial staff. There used to be a bonus system but that was taken away because management wasn't willing to pay everyone their share.

While a lot of the people here are nice it just isn't worth it anymore, find somewhere where you're a valued member of the team

The place runs basically like an expensive elderly care home during the day, and then at night there's a handful of newbies and regulars but not much ever, so you'll have to hope you've got a chatty coworker, and even then depending on the manager that can't even happen. 
Actual on-floor training was all over the place and you end up having to learn as you go and make mistakes which hopefully doesn't get flagged as health and safety or impede when there are actually customers that could complain, or be expensive to replace. Then there's the online training which is basically just ticking the rules and regulation boxes for the managers. 
Depending on which manager is on and who you've got with you on the same shift can make a difference, otherwise you'll be bored, on your own, not really making any drinks (which is the main fun), and having a manager that might call you up to make a coffee for the one customer upstairs. Every sector has their own group and mainly stick to their own which makes things less friendly.
The novelty of the new environment and learning about the job was fun for me for the first 4 months, but now it's just a nuisance. The main way to progress in the sector is to be a dealer or a cashier which isn't any better since they have nothing to do.
