Overall, reasonable place to work but not the best.

If you get frustrated by slow decisions, internal politics, minimal inter-departmental communication, not sticking to employment contract and inability of management planning DO NOT APPLY. 
You will end up dissatisfied and unhappy. 
They hire the most qualified person they can get, for as little as possible often far below market rate. 
PAY RATES are NOT COMPETITIVE (with private sector)
Little to no progression prospects, very much dead man's boots
Chronically understaffed in all departments (that I interacted or worked in, which was most)

Reasonable work life balance (role dependent, some are awful)
Excellent onsite facilities (pool/gym/library/canteen with great food)
Generally friendly atmosphere, willingness of colleagues to help each other (where internal politics do not apply, which they often do)
Good employee support (regular padre visits, started mental health program, regular occupational health visits/support)

Sick pay
5 weeks holiday 
Don’t work weekends.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Amount of work that you are expected to do per day.
I personally do not get given overtime, just expected to do the work in the time I have
Often miss breaks to get the work done
During hot weather find it very difficult working because we cannot open windows very much.
Get very hot and have to wear the same uniform that I have in the middle of winter. Have asked for a summer uniform but not allowed.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is terrible, not one of the domestic staff are happy there.
All due to bad management, cutting costs 
Would not recommend Harper Adams to anyone.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Generally expected to do the work of at least one other person before I do my own.
Expected to clean a student bedroom with a bathroom in 4 minutes. My personal opinion this cannot be done properly in that time.
Cleaning standards have definitely dropped.
I feel very sorry for young students that are paying high fees for bad accommodation.

As a student warden i was  required to live in halls of residence and work with the student services department in the effective running of the hall and ensure good student welfare. During term time I was required to be on call for 6 evenings a term and 3 weekends of the year, during this time I was the first point of call for the freshers in any emergency or issue. To enable me to do this role well I took part in level 3 first aid training and fire safety training. 

Through being a warden I have improved my organisation and time management skills. Additionally improved skills as a team player through working closely with my fellow wardens.

Wonderful environment to work.
Tutors/Work Manager and staff always helpful and friendly. Colleagues  supportive.
I worked as agency temporary admin to cover for sickness but would have hoped it could become permanent.
Beautiful environment and location to work in, although difficult to travel to if do not have transport.

Nice location and campus
Current role seems to have acquired alot more responsibility and still waiting for any sort of career advancement so will be looking for a new role. 
Some very good motivated staff working here but also some very incompetent lazy people which manage to go under the radar. Management very top heavy and perhaps need restructure 

During my PhD year I developed as a scientist, being given responsibility to organise and plan my work and arrange my schedules. Data analysis and presentations were given to colleauges and we collaborated on ideas to move forwards. Mangement are supportive and encouraging and the team atmosphere is present throughout the company from small departments to the company as a whole.

The university had a promote friends policy and this included hiring drinking buddies and drinking at work.  The staff would bully other members of staff and this was supported by management.

its very easy for people to fit in here who do agriculture and veterinary courses, but the rest are much smaller groups. you can receive great support if you reach out and they tend to look out for the freshers. only issue is around the culture of societies. they are wild and not in a good way. otherwise great uni and beautiful campus.
