A typical day at work in my role as a supervisor at Hartwig Care is dynamic and multifaceted. It involves coordinating and managing our team of carers, ensuring the well-being of our clients, and liaising with social services and healthcare professionals. Each day is unique, presenting new challenges and opportunities. I've learned to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the role.

What I Believe I Learned:
In this role, I've learned the significance of effective communication and coordination. It's crucial to maintain clear and open lines of communication with both our carers and clients. Additionally, I've developed a deep appreciation for the dedication and commitment of our carers, who work tirelessly to provide exceptional care to our clients.

Hartwig Care has an efficient and supportive management structure. I've had the privilege of working with a team of professionals who value our mission of enhancing the well-being of our clients. The management provides guidance, support, and resources to ensure our team can deliver high-quality care.

The Hardest Part of the Job:
The most challenging aspect of my role is managing unforeseen situations. Our clients' needs can change, and unexpected issues can arise. Ensuring that we address these challenges promptly and effectively is sometimes demanding, but it's also an opportunity for growth.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
The most enjoyable part of my job is witnessing the positive impact we have on our clients' lives. Knowing that our efforts make a real difference in their well-being is incredibly rewarding. It's a privilege to work alongside our dedicated carers and see the genuine care and compassion they bring to their roles.

I worked at Hartwig Care for over 14 years across almost every department, always receiving positive feedback and support from managers and colleagues. It was a company I was proud to be part of.
However, after management changes in 2019, particularly with the appointment of a new Operations Director, the work environment significantly deteriorated. Many staff have been overwhelmed by an increased workload, long hours, and heightened stress levels. Morale has declined, and mental health challenges among employees have become more visible.
Despite a long record of dedication, during my appraisal I was praised for my strong work ethic—only to be dismissed shortly after without prior performance concerns being raised. I was invited to a “work review” meeting where I was not allowed support, and when I was unwell and couldn’t attend, I was terminated by email.
I raised concerns about practices that I felt compromised employee and client welfare, but instead of being addressed, these concerns seemed unwelcome. Long-serving employees, who once loved their roles, are now either quietly leaving or feeling pressured to stay silent.

While I continue to admire the incredible care staff and managers who work hard under difficult circumstances, I feel that the company’s culture has shifted in a way that does not value loyalty, well-being, or open communication.



Typical day at work is visiting clients in their own homes to attend to their needs such as preparing for their meals, making a tea and do some domestic works. Giving personal care for those cannot do it by themselves, assists in personal care for those who can still make it with assistance. Speak to the clients during visits so they can feel they are loved and cared for especially those clients that live alone in their place.
      I learned to to get along, understanding, have patience with elderly especially those with dementia that they ask the same questions over and over again since they do not remember anything. 
      The care manager and other management staff are supportive to me especially when I speak to them about clients needs and situation, they act as soon as possible.
       Some co-workers are good carer, others not, seems they just there to work and earn.
       The hardest part of the job is when I was not given enough travel time from client to client. 
       The most enjoyable part of the job is to be with clients who enjoyed my company, the things I do for them and when they appreciate a job well done.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working with Hartwig is the fact that their staff are well trained. Respectful, experienced, professional and work with positive mindset.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part is going for a call to a very far location from where you are, and you need like 3 buses to get there, and the buses take forever to come and you have only 15 minutes travel time for a journey of 45 minutes. Plus waiting time of 10-13 minutes for each bus. Especially on weekends.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s been a great place to work. Good working environment. Good office space. Staff welfare is superb.  In terms of culture, it’s one vision, achieving results together.  The attitudes and behaviors of employees within the organization is quite impressive and something to emulate .

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My first day at work. Happy, vibrant, dedicated, and making sure I am not deviating from what I learnt or trained for. And keeping the mindset positive.

I've worked for hartwig care twice. 6 years ago and this year 2020 during lockdown. I don't know why I trusted them after my bad experience on 2014-2015,which was hard and underpaid. My ex colleague called me during the lockdown and suggested me to return to hartwig care because management have changed and much better. I would say they are much worse. In my case,they decided to offer me a 30 hour contract for domiciliary care,but unfortunately they didn't have enough jobs to cover those hours during lockdown. They still paid me the hours,but guess what,in the second month I have been reporting the lack of work to the management,so they started to give me few hours quite far from where I live,which lead me to cancel an half hour call far away from me at least 13 miles! What the manager decided was to not pay me the full month,just because one call,they left me with no money that month because I refused to do one call! They are a bunch of thieves,not trustworthy company. Also,people from the office they are quite lazy and,if you complain about something or need a cancellation,they treat you quite unfairly and rude.

I start my day at 7 am and finish at 7 pm. Most of my customers are double-handed and I work with the same colleague on my rounds. I would support the customers with personal care, transfers to and from the bed and into the armchair, meals(feeding), administration of medication, shopping, and light domestic duties.

I have learned to use the new recording system (Pass system app) This app has the information required of customers ready to read and once the daily notes are recorded the office is able to see it straight away.

The communication with the management team was good and if I have an issue the team would try to get it as soon as possible.

The culture within the workplace was comfortable and a friendly team. 

I am not sure there was a hard part to my job, however, sometimes there will be a customer who is refusing support with personal care and I have tried all my skills for them to allow me to support them and in the end, I wasn't able to support them. This makes me feel sad.

I most enjoyable part is knowing that I have made a difference in a customer's life. I was able to make them smile and feel at ease.

Everyday at work is the same ,no differences from one day to an other . 
I ve learned that the healthcare sector dosen t care about healthcare assistants and we are the last link in the chain ,left to perform the day to day task without incentive ,support or benefits. Management look after business ,no much mental support or whatsoever.  There is not a culture at work ,everybody do the job and go home.  The hardest part of the job is dealing often with bereavement without having a support. The most enjoyable part of the job is when the shift is going to end .  

Hartwig has a very good training package which equips carers with the skills to carry out their required tasks effectively and to a high standard.
Working with Hartwig has enabled me to develop my social care skills and I have gained a lot of knowledge and new skills from working with others including the various clients all with different needs and working with other carers at different levels of the job from other carers to management and directly with clients and their families to provide them with person centered care to the best of my abilities.

As a health care worker in a non residential care service delivery

Travelling time from a client to another

It’s very ok when it comes to connecting with one client to another in the City of London 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It is not that stressful and I work in accordance with my own availability

WHEN I VISIT MY CLIENT, I WOULD ASSIST ON THE HELP THEY NEED, ENSURE THEY ARE SAFE AND HAVE EVERYTHING THEY NEED UNTILL THE NEXT CAREER IS DUE TO VISIT.A TYPICAL DAY AT WORK WOULD BE ME HAVING 4HOURS OF DIFFERENT CLIENTS TO VISIT AT THEIR HOMES BUT WOULD HAVE 3 HOURS GAP INBETWEEN WHICH IS THE HARDEST PART OF THE JOB AS IT GETS COLD ON WINTER AND YOU GET TIRED OF BEING OUT THE WHOLE DAY. THE MOST ENJOYABLE PART OF THE JOB IS GIVING CARE TO THOSE WHO NEED IT, YOU FEEL REALLY PROUD OF YOURSELF.
