I've worked at the IMechE for 15 years and have enjoyed my time there.  The job security has been good and the skills I've learned during my time here have helped me immensely.  

My role has been wide and varied, from the moment I started I was organising committees of volunteers - scheduling and planning meetings, liaising with the committee members; managing the day-to-day tasks of my assistant as well as setting, monitoring and managing budgets for each committee; I also managed / helped committees put forward nominations for prizes and awards and much more.  My responsibilities developed and I then took on an event organising role - preparing concept proposals, developing marketing plans, liaising with and confirming speakers for the events (AGMs, lectures, award ceremonies, one to four day seminars and conferences, dinners and debates.  Following the bigger events - particularly the seminars and conferences - there would be wash-up meetings where feedback from delegates was evaluated and ideas for future events were noted for reference.

Management has varied widely - from not very good to very able and competent.  Sometimes the leadership (at the very top) has been a bit odd and - as in any office - there have been (and still are) lots of politics.

I've spent so much time at the Institution mostly because of the people I work along side.  From my colleagues to the volunteer engineers that I've worked with are an interesting bunch - yes, some are a challenge but, on the whole they have all been lovely. This part for me has been the most fun part of my job - I've loved meeting people from all backgrounds and levels of expertise.

Probably the most difficult aspect of IMechE is understanding its many and various processes - it trips up all newbies - but once the first year is 'under the belt' clarity arrives.

General administration duties. Schedule meetings with other departments to discuss the sectors and regions around the world. Discuss the direction we need to go towards and how to retain members and brainstorm new ideas and processes. Applications to process for professional development and upgrade current members to fellows. Arrange interviews for applicants. Organise video interviews as well a video meetings.

Employees are encouraged to build their personal and professional skills and continually learn in order to become more proficient.

Good benefits, location and learning opportunities. Supportive peers. Committed employees but not advanced in IT or Finance. Commercial companies require more support.

A good company to work for, salary could be better but great colleagues and support, fun events to attend. Easy approachable individuals. Overall have enjoyed my time
