Working with friendly and helpful people, my day begins with a cup of tea or a visit to the canteen for a bacon sandwich!!
Check emails in the various databases and work email to see if any mail has been sent that requires my immediate attention or to be put on my "to do" list for the day/week. Stamp, scan and send incoming paper mail to email and send to relevant person to action. Hourly checking of database for any customer contact and pass on to relevant person to contact the customer and respond back to me so I may update the database and "close" it down within two hours of customer contacting us. Typing of minutes. Archiving. Filing. Order stationary as and when required. Arrange the sending out of mail. Complying with company strategies regarding health and safety and clear desk policy, encouraging others to do so also, and reporting incidents on company database.
Weekly tasks such as populating the plant spreadsheet from information on the company database, compare and update the spreadsheet and send to the batch managers for them to update future plant requirements and send onto the plant department for them to ensure all sites have required plant when requested to ensure smooth development/completion on site.
This is just a breif synopsis of what my day can involve, there is just too much to mention.

The quality of what is produced by JN Bentley is terrible. Everything is a bodge and done on the cheap. Nothing that leaves the offices are checked properly for engineering content and therefore large reworks are constantly required resulting in large quantities of money being lost because of carelessness. More worryingly there seems to be no wanting to change from this from the management.

There is not a graduate scheme in place or any means of progression or support from the management to work up the company. The management does not work their team members to their strengths and regularly assign tasks to people without the appropriate skill set. The company has grown far too quickly wanting to gain as much money as possible but has not made the effort to improve its foundations at the same time. We work in the water industry yet can’t even have toilets that work properly in the offices.

If you can avoid it, do not work for them if you want to progress along the engineering career path.

Worked with Bentleys as a plant operator,Storeman and yardman, for over 15month, tried 3 times to apply for a job with them on the third occasion I was invited for interview drove over 100 miles to be told at the interview I was highly qualified and experienced but was more suited for major projects even though I have been working alongside the other lads and mucking in I learned a lot so was gutted to be told this, it was a wasted trip really, but everyone I worked with was great once you built up their trust you were part of the team. Did a lot of work  I didn't have to do but took it on myself cleaning facilities toilets etc no thanks for that.

Biggest sickener was I didn't realise I was entitled to holiday pay as I was agency I was just left to get on with that side of the job myself, ended up losing a full years holiday pay as no one told me I was entitled to it all the days we had off were unpaid never found out until i'd been offhired that I had lost it.

Management try to say the right things, in fact, you can see them rethinking what to reply half way through their replies. They set you up to fail, the worst of it is, I don’t even think they even know they are doing it. They talk about well-being conversation but all they do is reply, they don’t listen to understand. Smile and nod in the right places but no genuine concern. As long as you don’t want to think for yourself, you’ll be fine. Everything has to be checked by management first to make sure it’s what they want. They need to work on exit interviews. Think they’ll find out why their staff turnover is so high!! They have well-being but it’s a tick box, management don’t even believe in MHFA every time some asks to be a MHFA they’re refused. They only do it because their stakeholders wanted them to. There are some nice genuine people who work for the company but unfortunately with their HR department, they don’t stand a chance. 

I have been at JNB for nearly 2 years now. In my time here I have felt like part of the family. As you can see a lot of us refer to the company as one big family as you really do get that feel. Yes of course you always have that one cousin you don't often talk to but as a whole everyone does look out for one another. The directors treat you with the same respect as what your uncles and aunties would. 

We all get really good benefits and the option of tailing it around what is best for us. For example buy more holiday or add family members onto our health plans. 

The best way of describing Bentleys is that you get out what you put in. So if you are hard working and not afraid to get stuck in then you will get out what you put in.

What is the best part of working at the company?
How much they waste money. I was taken on as a temp to perm and worked everyday and worked hard never took a day off and at the end was told I wouldn’t be offered a position as they had to give work to lads coming back from working away.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The lies and the way they use people saying I would be taken on and I was a grafter to be dropped like I was never there 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s bad people stealing diesel and materials from the job and people just not working as a team 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
When I was working it was fine but everyone else just sits around and are very lazy

Everyone is friendly and helpful within the workplace.  People are tremendously busy but we always find ways to support everyone when the chips are down.  This makes a challenging day more enjoyable.

It is a small family culture which has been built to be quite large to date employing around 1,500 employees.  It seems to always exceed financial forecasts ensuring staff feel secure in their jobs.

The hardest part of the job is to be extremely multi-tasking physically and mentally. 

Management - I would say people are not micro-managed and are given autonomy.

JN Bentley is a great place to work. The company has a really positive, friendly culture and really cares about its people. The work environment is relaxed and you're given the support you need to progress and deliver in your role. 

There are development opportunities for all employees, whether you're on placement, an apprentice, a new graduate or someone that wants to develop professionally - the company will support you to do this. 

Working in a smaller team means my role is varied and I have the opportunity to work with different people across the business, from operational and support teams to senior management and directors.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The benefits package is amazing at JN Bentley.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The bullying and lack of support from management. The unrealistic KPIs and how you are treated/spoken to like a child.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Bully’s thrive in the environment at Bentleys. If you are not one of the directors favourites then you are a prime target and they will stand back and allow you to be broken down until you eventually leave. The company promises an amazing environment and culture but it’s all lies.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful, no support, constant negativity and effects you mentally.

JN Bentley is a great place to work. The people are really friendly, and management is very supportive. 

The workload is manageable, where support is required, help is always available. The business is growing and therefore there are always new and exciting projects to get involved in. Management are very open to any new suggestions, plenty of opportunities to grow and progress in your career. JNB are passionate about supporting their staff and offer funding for those wanting to obtain professional qualifications for their development.

Culture is great! Friendly people, no micromanagement. Family friendly culture, flexible, understand you have other commitments outside of work.
