Interviewed at the store I would be working at, got chance to meet the store manager and staff before accepting the job so knew it was the right thing for me.
I was started in the lower rate of £8 p/hr but after my probation this went up to £8.50 p/hr as the store manager was happy with me and I hit my KPIs.

Overall Mercury is a good entry into the security industry, yes I left as I got a better offer but they gave me the step on the ladder I needed and were always fair with me.

Only critique I have was that the area supervisors don't get enough time to visit and see you properly as some of them were travelling well over 200 miles in a day with their stores spread way to far out. Would rather they had local supervisors who could respond when you needed it.

I worked as a mobile response driver for Mercury Security Management for over a year. Terrible job. You will be given minimal training with little to no support from management. Shift pattern will effectively mean that you will rarely have a full day off so achieving a work/home life balance is impossible. Management will constantly lie about pay increase, promotion and training courses just to try to stop people from walking out after short periods. Pay has actually been decreased from £8 per hour to now £7:80, shifts will rarely actually only last 12 hours with 13/14 being the normal.

i had the mis fortune of working with this company coming all through covid 19.I was over worked and always being critisized. I attended my close friends funeral and i was fired. My manager said i should have not asked for the time off and should of lied and phoned in and lied to say i was ill, and maybe i could have have kept my job.I was twice 15 minutes late ( due to limited transport during covid) in he 4 months i worked there, and he used these as i reason to fire me.The company is ruthless to employees, rude and i would avoid, avoid, avoid ...at all cost

Early start at 6am and a review of the overnight logs. Fire alarm and CCTV checks. Open up of centre and safety checks. First guard arrives on site and reports to me and signs in for duty. Centre manager arrives around 9am and dicusses any concerns and whats planned for the day. between 10am and 6pm i monitor CCTV around centre and retail park. Working closely with retalers and the general public. Operate a four man team around the centre and report direct to centre manager. Complete incident forms and compliants as they happen

This company will not support you at all.   Mangers Hardy come see you staff do not lease with you like they should.   Pay is rubbish you have to work every weekend if you need a weekend off you have to use your holidays Smyth's toys staff need to be taught more about shoplifting  security get zero respect.  Shocking. When I was there a store manger was caught shoplifting and a department manger  the DM kept his job   his gf soon became supervisor. Staff are the worst in Smyth's.

There was nowt that I liked about working with this company as it was poorly run by the management team.

Putting up with incompetent staff and management. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment was very toxic to be around. 


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
One big headache culminating in negativity within one's mindset.

Damned if you do, Damned if you don't. 

Client staff feel a reason to moan about security, as they feel they can do our job better than ourself. 

Job description states you do patrols etc, yet all you do is stand at the front door for the full shift. 

Client management moan about you taking your 1 hour break which is mercury policy. 

Wouldn't recommend anyone works here.

Was told that I would enjoy working for Mercury, that management had unrivalled experience, how great they were etc.

It was all a load of nonsense, ignorant management setup who thought they knew better when in reality they don't.

Took forever to get access to holiday leave, then couldn't get leave when I wanted it because there wasn't enough cover provided, no idea who the work placed pension provider was.

Avoid at all costs.

Still working for Mercury security but looking for a new opportunity 

What can I say I have never been treated like this in all my life 5 different hoilday request and all 5 rejected over the summer holidays NO time with my children at all 

Constantly getting calls to cover sick days then getting told you have no choice but to get into work or find a new job as I am still on ONE year probation 





Mercury is an excellent company to work for. Manger and owners are very decent people to work for. I have worked for Mercury off and on since its early days and would recommend the company to anyone.Security work isnt always the best paid profession but if you want to work for a professional company who care for their staff then Mercury is to be highly recommended.
