Mla-Move-Language-Ahead

I worked with MLA Abroad at the Brunel University campus and had a very positive experience overall.

1. Recruitment & onboarding: The hiring process was fast and straightforward—apply → interview (if shortlisted) → offer → start work → salary paid on time. Communication was clear at every step, and admin tasks were handled quickly.

2. Academic support: The Director of Studies and Assistant DoS were outstanding. They provided practical training and ongoing CPD, shared clear lesson expectations, and offered step-by-step guidance on writing student feedback. Scheduling was thoughtfully done; they tried to match classes to teacher preferences and were always available for both academic and emotional support. It genuinely felt like an open-door culture.

3. Teaching environment (Brunel University): Facilities were excellent. Classrooms were spacious with reliable projectors and AV equipment, large desks, and layouts that made pair/group activities and extras like clubs or excursions easy to run. Tech support was quick and the campus is safe and well connected.
Accommodation: Rooms are on the small side but have everything you need. There’s access to a shared kitchen and on-site laundry (paid machines—approximately £2.40 per wash and about £1 to dry). It’s convenient for early starts and late finishes.

4. Pay & admin: Timesheets and payroll were simple, and payment arrived when expected. Materials and photocopying were easy to access.

5. Area to improve — canteen: The main drawback was the food. Quality and variety in the canteen were noticeably poor. Offering fresher options, clearer dietary labels, and a few simple hot dishes would make a big difference. Until then, be prepared to self-cater or eat off campus.

Bottom line: A professionally run programme with superb academic leadership and strong facilities. If MLA can lift the canteen standards, it would be an exceptional place to work. I’d be happy to return.

I've dedicated over 5 years to this industry, and MLA stands as a prominent summer camp company.

My experience with MLA has been a remarkable opportunity, and I've treasured every moment! Starting as an activity leader, I was running and leading  excursions, onsite sports, and even evening entertainment. To be honest, I believe I had as much fun as the kids. Following a promotion to manager, my responsibilities expanded to encompass a variety of roles. The unstinting support from both the head office and my management line made my job alot easier.

Operating in Worcester, one of the larger centers, the figures are notably substantial! This ment the workload became harder, yes, it can be stressful, and yes, the work is harder. Nonetheless, the company acknowledges these challenges and extends the necessary support. Without a doubt! We had pIenty of staff and a great summer.

i intend to return to MLA and eagerly look forward to advancing my career further with them.


During my time at MLA, I was welcomed into a diverse community of individuals, where every day brought the chance to form new friendships and go on fun excursions. A typical day may have required our highest efforts, but the gratification that follows made this a truly enriching experience.

What set MLA apart is the sense of community that envelops the team, we felt more like a family than colleagues. As management, my colleagues and I took it upon ourselves to cultivate an environment that not only nurtures professional growth but also sprinkled it with meaningful moments and laughter.

At MLA, we were more than just employees; we felt like an essential part of a team where our contributions weave into a larger, impactful picture. We embraced the opportunities, relished the connections, and savour the satisfaction that stems from our hard work. I will treasure the memories I have made forever.

MLA is a challenging and intense environment to work in, in terms of the clients and hours, especially if you're residential as you do not really manage to take time out of work/ the environment although this is expected with the nature of the job. Team were lovely, group leaders bringing the kids could be very demanding (understandably) but did not appreciate when problems that occurred (buses for trips not showing up with correct number of seats etc.) were out of the hands of the on-site team. Overall, the students were lovely and most of the group leaders were too. Got to take them on trips to nearby attractions and cities which was exciting although higher up management failed to listen to feedback that some half-day trips were too short for certain attractions and would not increase the trip to a full day to improve satisfaction of group leaders thereby overall environment at the camp. 

There really are no positives here. From learning on-site management to head office management are a joke! Management who are training on the job, are then training first-timers in the position. Very little planning, & the same amount of respect from management to Activity Leaders. (yet they say otherwise) A very laid-back approach to things, (that increases the percentage for something to go wrong) until everything is falling apart. Their safeguarding system (or lack of it) is truly questionable at best. Although having colleagues in your team will make the experience a bit better, it is still overshadowed by the disappointing half-working system they call MLA  


There are many opportunities available to employees at MLA. Most positions are full-time seasonal contracts, however the company offers contracts for programmes throughout the year to the best staff. There are plenty of challenges you will face working at a summer language school and you get to try many things like public speaking, sports, accounting, sales, acting, and interacting with students, group leaders, peers, and managers. My favorite part of MLA is the technology and in-house software they use to make our jobs easier. I would recommend MLA to someone looking for a challenging and rewarding job in which to grow your professional skills.

Working in a summer school can be intense sometimes. I found a great team in Edinburgh and that made working days fun. The job involves running activities for international students which is quite fun. Also taking the students to visit Scotland is interested. I myself visited placed I had never seen like St Andrews, Stirling.It can be challenging with teenagers but still a good experience I’d recommend!

Very long hours, I started at 7am and would finish around 1am. I wasn't allowed to leave my desk unless i was going to the toilet. I had to eat lunch at my desk and wasn't allowed to go outside for fresh air. The manager was very unprofessional and rude, he shouted directly in my face on many occasions and did this to all team members. 

I would not recommend this employer to anyone! Avoid them at all cost.

Honestly this place is stressful to work for and though have been trying more recently do not stick to the working time directive or when all hours are taken into account pay minimum wage you are typically working 16 hours a day and are lucky to get your day off, I’ve had occasions where in the last week they have refused to give me one

I thoroughly enjoy working with MLA. 
Communication is excellent, and the atmosphere relaxed and at the same time very productive.
You are definitely treated as a person and not as a number.
I definitely need to thank MLA for my professional and personal growth.
I would recommend working with MLA without hesitation.
