My typical day at work would start at 8.30. Every morning I organised my workplace, open the computer systems that were needed, process the spreadsheets that represented my workload for the day. Then I would go through my emails that I received overnight from the Americas and East Asia and sort them out by their urgency.By 10.30 I had to be ready for the team meeting where all the team members reported the situation with the outstanding cases to the manager ask for help or offer advise. After the meeting I would start solving the outstanding and urgent cases, the new cases were less important for the moment so I used to work on them later in the afternoon. During the day I used to receive emails and calls from inside the company and from our customers with a wide array of issues that had to be solved. My main function was to make sure that a deal that was between the company is the same as clients information and in case of discrepancies I had to solve them. 
Another important aspect of the job was the continuous training in regards to the financial products that we were working with. 
And finally every employee had to be part of different project groups that were dealing with problems like process improvement and teaching improvements, I was part of 3 projects that one of them I initiated and I take great pride in it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Really helpful and supportive management. I was provided support and assistance throughout my role. My tasks and duties were clearly conveyed and I found it to be a great learning experience having regular interaction with various stakeholders in the firm. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Although expectations were managed and our goals were quite realistic, the deadline approaching can mean that that various departments and counterparties have to be contacted to follow up on the status of completion. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I found the work environment to be very open and professional. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The mornings would consist of reviewing emails and correspondence followed by our daily scrum call with the dev department. 

This would lead us to various other meetings that were related to the tasks undertaken. 

The afternoon usually consisted of us doing analysis on the work being done, compilation of requirements and their conversion to user stories.

Your joining this company for the name - or you negotiated a good salary. 

The company has some reputation, regardless of how it treats its staff so it's worthwhile to join if your looking for a name on your CV.

However, I wouldn't recommend it further in your career unless, as mentioned at the start, your getting paid enough to sacrifice the work-life balance. 

The company usually promotes on seniority and prefers to promote 'commanders' rather than leaders - promoting a negative working environment. 

The bonus system is based on a comparison with your peers, which in turn breeds a conflict of interest to 'one-up' your colleagues. 

All in all, not a great place to remain in unless you are a sociopathic individual willing to sacrifice morales over decency. 

PS management is practically non-existent unless you mess up. 





The company is heavily based on month end work.  Long hours are to be expected during month ends which last about a couple of weeks, quarter ends which will last about a month and year ends which last an entire quarter.  Expect your time during the quieter periods to be spent on process improvement.  There is an insistence on cross training which offers great opportunities for career progression.

Teambuilding and working together ethos are outstanding.

I was working on a fixed-term contract, but this was brought to an end.  I managed to glean enough information from a manager by pressing her that the reason for this was "unanticipated reorganisation" due to Brexit, but it turns out that neither management nor HR are under any obligation to disclose to you the reason for this sort of termination.

I'll preface this with the caveat that since this is large company, a lot depends on where you land.
While MS is a great company to work for with a relaxed culture and great camaraderie, the salaries are not. Every year you barely get the cost of living replacement and bonuses were squashed since Gorman took over. Also, unless you find the right manager/area to develop and promote you, forget about promotions. And that is if you survive the annual mass layoffs that they love to execute right before the holidays.
Sr. management is focused on shareholder value and neglects the employees that are the backbone of the company aka operations. Also, they're obsessed with hiring younger and younger cohorts.

They pay well. For that you better be ready to keep your head down and not have opinions, especially anything which management can't claim as their own.

Staff disappear and it is never spoken of. Sometimes they leave, sometimes its a HR Action. Never tell HR something personal, it will not end well. Expect your every move to be monitored - Clock in and out, toilet breaks, who you do and don't associate with.

They talk a good game about corporate responsibility, but managers do not like people that take part in these initiatives. If its not about their next car - it really doesn't matter. 

Promotions are planned about 5 years in advance, so don't even think about it.

Will potentially lose hundreds of staff to Barclays in coming months - I wish I had jumped sooner, sometimes the grass IS greener.

It’s a shame because I was really excited when I got the job offer, now being at the department for a few months I cannot believe how Morgan Stanley at Glasgow is run. 
It’s super stressful all the time and there is nobody there that can help you because everyone is so busy trying to fit 11 working hours to their day.
You are essentially working for minimum wage until you work yourself up because overtime is not paid and it is expected of employees to stay later than intended.
You have an hour lunch break but 95% of the employees do not take the hour because they have that much work to do, it’s truly ridiculous.
I recommend working there for at least 6 months before jumping ship.



Other people were nice , some not as polite if you need help how to do the procedure of a job , 

Didn't get my work from home computer as promised, 

Pay was off for sure 

Learning process was non related to the job 

And would been nice to have learning opportunities for my future if it was giving a great chance to take the time , sad part I was always in the office everyday while others worked from home and discussion like it was important who needs to be in the office to babysit me . 

Talked down what I did wrong rather this is how it should be done ( don't worry ) alot of toxic wide behaviour I did not apprentice then . 

I would say great company reputation but not now sadly . 



Good if you're permanent member, 
If you are a temporary worker like me then lower expectations, expect favoritism and less opportunities and less guidance.  The pay is okay for being temp through resource solutions . Some people have been made permanent at the end of their temp contracts, For me I have been given an "I don't know " for every time I ask about becoming permanent, it is a very technical jobs nd you learn on the job. Every day there will be something new to learn. and if you are lucky someone will take time to teach you. 
If you apply aim for permanent positions as temporary staff get treated with negligence

I started at the FID (Fixed income) settlements department in Glasgow as an analyst of the euroclear market bond related products. A year later I had the opportunity to move on and complete a transition of cash management trade support from London to Glasgow. My daily tasks include cash trade support and liquidity control, speaking everyday to traders and monitoring settlement while providing operational support to many business areas such as treasury, fx, funding etc. Keeping good contact with agent banks, clearing banks and client money teams. The job requires good computer skills and the usage of various systems.
