Typical day at work:
A typical day involved delivering automotive parts to garages, managing stock, and assisting in the warehouse when required. Work was often reactive and poorly coordinated.
What I learned:
I developed strong time management, independent working, and customer service skills. I also learned to operate in a role with limited structure and support.
Management:
Management lacked consistent training and effective leadership. Concerns raised about behaviour and standards were not always addressed.
Workplace culture:
The workplace culture was toxic at times. Colleagues openly spoke negatively about each other and the company to customers, which was unprofessional and damaging. These issues were raised but little action was taken.
Hardest part of the job:
Working in a negative environment while still being expected to maintain professionalism and customer service standards.
Most enjoyable part of the job:
Driving, working independently, and interacting with customers throughout the day.

Not a bad place to work if you want to turn up do your job and go home. But if your looking to better your self or have a career then this isn't the company for you. Management is pot luck depending what branch your at. I've had some really good ones and quite a few horrendous ones. Regional management is again luck of the draw. Pay could be better for most roles as isn't enough to live on. (Most staff are looking for better paying jobs). Again good staff leave due to not getting promotions and the company hiring out side staff who then can't do the basics of the job e.g I had a manager who couldn't tell the time and I wish I was joking. The driving jobs are good of you can afford to live on minimum wage. As low stress and relatively easy. But other than that I wouldn't bother as the effort isn't worth the pay. Alot of similar jobs paying higher wages. I'd rate 5 out of 10 

Promoted to Business development Manager
Currently responsible for 8 other Branches working closely with our Regional Manager by representing or introducing my sales ideas and techniques to improve monthly turnover and Promotional targets
      Sales Representative (Oct 2012 – 2014)
       Responsible for creating sales and opening new accounts
Co-ordinating, preparing Quotes, Orders, Purchasing and Deliveries within a Tight Deadline, field sales visiting potential new clients and being committed to existing customers
A 88 inter-branched stores, we cover a 50 mile radius supporting over 250 businesses on a daily turnover target of £3540
Opened 105 accounts creating over £23,000 extra per month 30% of our overall turnover

The company has little or know understanding of work life balance- you do 9.5 hour days without a break(even though your deducted 1hr wage for a break)- you work Saturdays to come in and do nothing because everything is dead. Management get no support so often are left trying to scramble together procedures that are poorly written and make little to no coherence. There is no health and safety, no one cares. The parts you're trying to sell are ridiculously priced compared to other competitors, you can literally go to someone else 5 minutes down the road and get the same thing half the price. Your targets are impossible to hit meaning there is no bonus. As branch manager you are expected to pull rabbits out of your a**e for a wage thats 6k above entry level staff. Of you aren't bothered about

A typical day at Motor Parts direct consists of checking the expected delivery of any outstanding orders from the previous days trade, adjusting stock of any part number supersessions, arranging delivery of internal stock transfers, taking and processing orders from trade and general public, cashing up previous days banking and taking to the bank also organising our delivery drivers and supporting them to help them complete their daily duties.

Through my employment with MPD I have learnt different selling techniques to help meet targets and weekly promotions. We work as a close family so is a relaxed working atmosphere but all staff work as a team to get the job done as quickly as possible with as few mistakes as possible.

I loved the branch I worked at, the people were great however there was always a large staff turnover. This is because of the low wages. Every single job is minimum wage including parts advisors. Yes you can earn bonuses each month but it isn’t much at all. You’d get more money working at a supermarket. Higher management don’t have a clue, the regional managers visit branches and sit around on their phones. Motor Parts Direct do not care about their staff at all, it’s all about profit profit profit (the sales advisors make the company profit yet don’t get any benefits for it) 

Took this job as a temp position to get me through winter I lasted a week! They pay the bare legal minimum they can get away with not only are you a van driver your also responsible as a picker as they are too cheap to hire more staff. Alot of the time not being able to keep up with the orders I found myself with 10 more items to pick with 3 mins before I had to leave!! You get 5 mins leway from leaving to getting to the drop!!!! Very realistic....and you ment to fuel the van up and wash it in that time or do it in your lunch break that they take an hour out of your wages for!!!! Longest lunch I had was 10 mins it's just a mad rush would not recommend this company for anyone to work at was a nightmare and the area manager is a very un caring individual!!! 

Having worked in the Motor trade for over 25 years MPD have the potential to be the best factors in the Country. However they expect their staff to work;

Without breaks 
Without even cost of living wage rises
A bonus system which is riddled with ways they can get out of paying
Ignoring basic health & safety
Seem unable to provide suitable sanitary facilities
No sick pay even if you need an operation due to a work issue

If you could put up with this then it's the place for you; profits come before any thought of staff welfare.

The company are missing a huge opportunity to be the strongest company in their sector.

On a typical day the mornings are usually the busiest, during this time there will be all the stock invoices which come in overnight to pick for the other branches, as well as phone calls to answer from all customers who are ordering their parts for the day. 

The people I work with are great and we all get on very well together which helps the branch run smoothly and efficiently, which makes this the most enjoyable part of my job. 

The hardest part of the job is getting the customers on board with the weekly promotions we have to offer because they often don't want to spend more than they have to.

The current staff were very welcoming and accommodating. I've been working as a flexworker at MPD Hatflied for a few months and have become part of the furniture already. However, some employees cause division between work colleagues and departments. Some warehouse operatives are very lazy and take advantage of those who work hard by just looking busy with nothing while others do al the work. No one monitors this behavior and a lot of nonsense slides. It's a fun working environment but you have to be very stern so you don't get taken advantage of by the other warehouse operatives. But I guess it is that way in most warehouse environments.
