Management is awful, some have no clue what they are doing and expect employees to reach KPIs will little support and only cares about the company's success rather than employees wellbeing and mental health.  There are some mangers that do care however the majority has a huge disconnect with their employees. There is no real structure to the training either, when I was trained initially while the field trainers were supportive they only taught how to use the systems rather than teaching what was expected of us which fellow colleagues were expected to teach which for the most part was excellent to begin with but overall after you've had your systems training you're practically left to figure out the role yourself with partial support from colleagues and barely any from managers. The work is challenging and engaging and being able to work from home 90% of the time was a huge bonus, if only the workload was more manageable and management cared more about their employees and tailored their KPIs per employee then I would recommend working here but as it stand I highly recommend avoiding working here as their staff retention is at an all time low. Within the past 2yrs I've worked for NHSP in two different departments being able to work 3 different ish roles I've seen several colleagues come and go for various reasons but ultimately due to the work culture. NHSP has recently changed their core values and have recently implemented a road plan for the systems and process and how that will evolve in the future however during my 2yrs here I've seen changes but none has ever been positive I'm hoping this will change. You can put out as many changes as you want but ultimately if you don't 100% care about your employees you will continue to loose staff due to that reason.

Working in the NHS has been an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling experience. Being part of an organisation that is dedicated to improving people’s health and wellbeing gives me a deep sense of purpose and pride. I’ve done this role for almost 10 years, both full time and ad hoc. 

You must do 1 shift every 6 months to stay registered, and it’s completely your choice when and where you work. You log on to their system and pick a shift you want. 

As it’s bank work in healthcare, you are NEVER EVER short of work. This is never a concern. It’s a great back up job to have - if you stay on their books, no matter if you do this as your main or just a side job, it’s a comfort to have this to fall back on anytime. The pay is ok - it varies according to the shift you pick. 

You can’t fault the work life a balance and the autonomy. 

However, support is… difficult. The call centre (open 24/7) is very helpful. But if you have any issues they are unable to deal with… well, good luck. Getting a response from anyone is like getting blood out of a stone. Prepare to nag. Prepare for lots of fluff and faff. And as you’re not a substantive member of staff, support from the hospital you pick shifts up is limited too. If you’re having issues with the hospital itself… I’d just give up, personally, unless it’s over pay or something.. prepare for a lot of problem solving, because if you have any, you’ll be the only one who is bothered enough to try and sort it out. The plus side is that if a department is horrible, you never have to work there again. Your schedule is completely yours to control.

Ultimately, this is a ok job. There’s a reason I’ve stayed so long. There are good wards out there - you just have to find them and stick to them. 

If you’re self motivated and a problem solver - you’ll be fine.

I have young children and a partner who works full time so I pick up shift to work around them. 
The weekend shifts you do get paid considerably more. This is well suited to me when working around my family. 
Flexible working patterners are the way forward. 
I am a health care assistant so I pick up shifts across 3 hospitals on all different wards. Shifts that need filling, maybe due to illness or maternity of the permanent health care assistant or many even capacity has increased so they need the extra help.

The staff on the wards are very grateful for you picking up the shifts.

It can be a very rewarding job and each day is different that be if you choose to work everyday. 

I know some members who work a few nights a week. Others just work the weekend. Some people work all week. 
You can work whenever you want at many different start times with many different shifts. 

Your holidays are automatically calculated. You can see the hours adding up everytime you work a shift. This always makes me feel positive.

You only have to work 1 shift in 6 months to stay on the bank. Many have full time jobs in their chosen hospital and pick up bank shifts along side. 

I work solely for the bank as there are plenty of shifts to be picked up everyday. 

I love working for the NHSP bank. I can not fault them. 

There online bank system where you book your shifts is amazing too. Best out of all the banks I have joined. Simple and easy to use.




I start my day by checking my mails on Microsoft outlook for any pending matters needing my attention, for example, building a chart or producing a word or excel document or making sure meeting papers are readily available either physically or on project place.I prioritize these so i can handle the more urgent ones first and others a little later. I attend to incoming calls on the telephone as they come. I also manage the diary for the Associate Director of the department. 
I could also need to organize meetings and venues, ensuring all attendees are satisfied with the time chosen.
If any items in the department need ordering, I check with other members of the department if they have other items they will need ordering. I then place the order and await approval from Director.
I check my Policy day to day management procedures to ensure Authors and Leads are away of out of date policies needing updating.
I have improved a lot over the months on my Microsoft word and excel skills. 
I enjoy working with members of my team as they are very approachable. We keep a good communication line open to ensure the smooth running of the department. 
Many times i have had to take on extra work on board to ensure deadlines are met.
The hardest part of the job is when you are suddenly given a multiple amount of very urgent jobs needing to be submitted due to changing decisions made from the top management.
The most enjoyable part of my job is its consistency in work volume. I am never bored as i have sufficient work and hence the day goes by very quickly.

I worked as a full time nurse at this trust. In all it was a great experience but depended greatly on where you worked. Some wards gave you the most challenging situations, most unwell patients and weren't as supportive as they could have been. Other wards were very different and were welcoming and helpful towards you. The trust overrecruited international nurses, when other trusts advertise for ward nurses, this trust don't. They recruit students and international nurses only which is strange. They gave no warning that they were pushing NHS Professionals out, luckily everyone got the message and found new jobs, but they weren't offered work at the trust as I said they only recruit international nurses. If you work there regularly and they're going to cut bank use they should ask if you want to onboard and keep you informed so you can look elsewhere. There's no shifts at this trust now for healthcare assistants or nurses yet they're still advertising. The matrons and bed managers could try and use you disgracefully if you were NHSP only. Asking you to 1:1 aggressive patients which is inappropriate. They used to have restraint trained care staff come to stay with patients at that kind of risk. I'm not restraint trained, but they tried to get me to do that. They'd also go for you at the first instance when wanting to move staff when you'd find they had better choices elsewhere. I did like working there all the same.

I have worked as a Care Support Worker since the pandemic and progressed to work on bank. 
I love my role and often being a CSW can be very stressful and demanding. I do enjoy the variety of the shifts and places you can work. However, this job does not provide me with a stable income. I have had problems previously where timesheets haven't been released, which then means you don't get paid weekly, rather two weekly. This can then leave you wondering whether the unpredictable nature of pay is worth it.

Anyways, I have had both positives and negatives, calls can be prolonged and replies can take a while. Shifts can be cancelled or changed at a moments notice. 

The pay is also debatable as during the week you are paid minimum wage, yet weekends is a higher rate. Sometimes, making it more feasible just to work weekend shifts. 

Overall, the job can be very demanding and stressful. The training is okay, but you don't get paid for spending days doing the online and in person training. Plus you have to pay for vaccinations. You should be trained more before going into this role, rather than always learning on the job. 

Overall, could be better as a company but the role itself is good and something I enjoy. 



Before writing this review, please let it be known that I am a current employee of the corporate/business end of NHSP, working at one of the contracted local Trust Services teams as a TSP.
I have been working here for over 5 years and have learned a lot on the job, have shown interest in career progression and development which has been stifled at every opportunity in favour of already experienced external staff who last in the role for about 5 minutes before they are promoted or move to another company. The staff turnover is ridiculous with too many managers and not enough people on the ground, overworked and underpaid, unappreciated and undervalued. The salary is worse than the NHS with an even worse new salary structure based on "performance-based pay", which despite stellar performance is still a dictated salary and you have no say in. The Trust managers are constantly pushing and putting pressure on you meeting deadlines, no one communicates any changes with you and they just expect you to fix the mess they've made and make all the wrong business decisions. The CEO and ExCo constantly talking about how well the business is doing but fail to pass on any of those financial successes to the hardworking staff achieving it for them

What is the best part of working at the company?
To me working as NHSPROFESSIONAL staff has loads of benefit, the best part l enjoyed is the  trainings you receive to  give you an insight of  how to best support the service users in their day to day activities.  Also working  as a team to deliver good services to the organisation and to keep the banners up. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It depends on what you think you can handle,and how  you are able to manage the  situation you find yourself.  There are lots of support, to enhance the staff.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment  is safe , because  you have received  enough training to equip you at your designated location around  the organisation.  We have culture like, respect,  dignity, well-being,  care , interest, safety and lots more, makes the environment  more condusive to work.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day for me at the company depends on the team members to all work together to achieve success.  It also depends sometimes at the mental state of the patient you are working with at your designated  areas.
