What is the best part of working at the company?
The children were all unique and their characters could make your heart melt. It was an honour to work with the children and my colleagues.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When i worked through covid it was so hard to make the childten feel reasurred of who i wad. As they reconised my voice but didnt reconised my face as we had to wear full PPE.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good mixture of cultures and backgrounds which made for a real inviting place of work. It created a sense of community.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would prepare feeds for the 3 children that needed to be fed via feeding lines/tubes. Prepare the specialist beds ready for transitions from chair to bed. 
I would assist in full personal hygiene on average 8-12 times in a day. 
Deliver personalised lessons for the class as a whole or individually. Create tactile packs for all of the students in my class. Support my teacher in brainstorming ideas to making the lessons more accessable to the student. Delivering physio sessons and keeping records of progress.
Writing daily diarys for parents.
Help feed the students that needed assustance with hand over hand or guidance.

During my time at Oaklands I have worked with many disabled children from Global learning difficulties to ASD and ADHD. I have worked on a 1-1 basis with a child helping support him socially and academically. I worked with the year eleven who are ready to join sixth form or move onto college or even a new challenge in life such as a job. I helped them prepare for the outside world, we looked at different industries for example and did a presentation on what they could expect from an employer or a college. I have supported a whole group of year eleven on a weekly basis during their hair and beauty course. We would go down to the college and they would have real life experiences of a salon and what the social side of that environment is like.  I would observe and record their achievements and allow them to practice on me. I felt a fantastic sense of achievement knowing the enjoyment and fulfilment they got on a Monday through my support.

This was voluntary work so I wasn't paid.

I would assist a teacher for secondary school year group (children with disability/special needs) in science. 

It was a rewarding experience which taught me patience and keeping calm in stressful situations. Plus my organisation skills improved along with my communication skills. 

The most enjoyable part was working amongst the fellow teachers who were supportive and helpful when required. Moreover, building a teacher-student relationship was enjoyable. Working with the kids and boosting their confidence and widening their knowledge is what made this work truly gratifying.

I had a very good working experience at New Oaks primary school. The Headteacher,  depute head and everyone from the senior leadership team, including HR are always approachable and very supportive. Working hours are excellent, especially if you have school aged children. Lots and lots of new learning opportunities. Staff always look out for each other. Working with special educational needs kids gives a sense of satisfaction. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Colleagues are cooperative and helpful.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some of our colleagues are having disability which require one to be always careful. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very nice and fun. Respects each other.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It is fun to work there. Nice staff room to have the break wonderfully.

The school has 4 departments; severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autistic spectrum (AS) and a sixth formal for pupils up to the age of 19. All staff are familiar with PECS, dealing with challenging behaviour, supporting personal care and makaton signing.

The school itself had no orginisation for placement workers. 
There was no sign in times or anything to let hte school know that i had arrived to work. I had no supervisor the only thing I had to go by was what the teacher suggested.

I only volunteered one day a week. 
I was given the chance to learn how to feed a child who is unable to feed himself and was supported by those i worked with if there was ever something i didnt know how to do.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing is good here it's only stressful.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The way they treat new workers is stressful to work there.

Wonderful students.
Culture of mistrust between support staff and leadership . Very low pay for level of responsibility. Support staff often left to
Cover teacher roles without support or additional pay.
