Ofcom are  the government-approved regulatory and competition authority for the broadcasting, telecommunications and postal industries of the United Kingdom.

They make sure telecoms and broadband firms are lawful, not mis-selling, make sure competition is fair and listen to thousands of complaints every week so they can assess issues of concern and improve the industry, so that everyone has the chance to at least basic internet access, be it at home, work or library.

They also regulated UK broadcasting TV, make sure postal service is able to continue its obligations such as 1 postal service to your home 6 days a week.

Typical day would be speaking with residential and business customers,using computerised software to store issues, provide advice on laws and regulations and produce reports.

Environment is excellent - overlooking river thames in nice office with good facilities.

Management are often ok if you do your work and keep your head down they will generally be fine, but beaware they often try to scapegoat members of the team they manage for their own mistakes.  Got to watch your own back and stand up for yourself.

Supervisors will try to scapegoat you for their mistakes and will stab you in the back because they often want to become manager and some don't care how they get to the position, they will blame you for their mistake and often tell you to record things into the systems wrongly so mistakes are made and you are blamed.  Watch you back.

Most enjoyable part of the job:  making a real difference withih the telecoms market by advising the public on getting results from their providers when they are let down.

Hardest part of the job is the knowing the best way to handle managers and supervisors, when they are trying to stab you in the back for their own progression - unfairness 

Overal - Great environment, good equpment to work with, stunning views of London from the office and enjoyable speaking with consumers.

I have left the company, but many aspects i enjoyed but managment stabbed many people in the back to make sure they are seen in best light and get promotion or pay rises, Sometimes Ofcom Managers / Supervisors have some disrespect for the team they are suppose to manage.

I would like to go back as I enjoyed the job and was good at it, I decided to leave as opportunity with Unilever came about, but I preffered the work at Ofcom, I  would be able to handle situations slightly differently cope better with managers who try to scapegoat the staff for their mistakes and poor management.

Good team environment, great working conditions, management sometimes can be a let down.

Many people decided to leave due to unfiarness and unachivable targets set so as people leave as no reward for hard work / pay increases, will no want to retain good staff but happy to see them leave in facvour of new staff on lower pay.

Directors are trying to change this and have moved to an agile way of working. The Management teams are not uniform yet in the way they are allowing their teams to work and there are some that are resistant in allowing their employees to manage themselves and their workload.
Senior Managers are of different quality throughout the organisation as would be expected. The policy and procedures are there but many choose to  follow instinct instead. I was left to manage my team and role with anonymity disguised as 'Empowerment'. I personally would have preferred a little more contact with my SM. 
Decision making is slow in general and very frustrating but when a decision is made the expectation is that it can be actioned immediately. This causes un needed stress for those 'doing' the job.
The company is a fantastic one to work for in regard to rewards and benefits and all is not doom and gloom. When they get it right it is very right.  
The facilities are superb.

A high-pressure post planning and licensing radio stations in the AM, FM & DAB spectrum. I was a part of the radio team that ensured the FM spectrum was clear for the London 2012 Olympics, and conducted a study of band2 (87.5 - 107.9 MHz) showing where frequencies could be utilised if necessary fior those games.  Dealing with applicants daily as part of the role and investigating problems they may have had with their application and/or operational radio station. The role was very insular and no-one else really wanted to do it, the office politics were difficult to deal with especially from upper management but I dealt with them as best I could. Best part of the job was the pension plan to be honest.

I enjoy working at this department as I got to learn a lot of new skills such as working on Seibel, SMS,how to keep a cool when dealing with difficult customer. Ofcom have a very supportive management. Another reason I really enjoyed working there was because of my co- workers were very friendly towards me. They always helped me when I needed any help. I didn't find any part to be hardest but there were some lil difficult situations with some impatient customers. The most enjoyable part of the job was to be able to communicate with people built connections and to be able to just have an relax atmosphere with loads of positive energy around me.

The good - Excellent benefits package. Good rate of pay and annual increase plus bonus scheme.
The bad - I would once have said it was a supportive, encouraging workplace, unfortunately it has now turned in to a toxic environment. Morale is at an all time low and management either don’t see it, don’t care or both.
The ugly - It would seem you are subject to different rules depending on who you are and what job you do.
Ultimately, if you get the opportunity to make it so that you are the only person doing the tasks you do, they are willing to brush your otherwise sackable offence under the carpet!

Mega-Micro-Management make the job virtually impossible to be yourself.

I felt bullied. If the management don't like you that's it.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Set up laptop, login to calls, then managers monitor every word of every call. At the end they always call you to tell you what you did wrong

A typical day at work involves a lot of analysing and investigating being a system analyst and providing resolutions to findings

I learnt to be independent and responsible for my own work and deliverables

Management team in Ofcom are influential and role models, my manager in particular is an excellent HR professional and has positive influence on my approach to business both within the team and wider scope of the organisation

Working alongside the 3rd party delivery partners we were responsible for replacing the existing CRM system with Salesforce and delivering an online customer portal.  Introducing Agile project delivery to the team was a challenge where each decision was viewed by committee.    A typical day started with 'project stand up's across a variety of work streams managing sequential  sprints.

K.P.I and being constantly watched by supervisor

Tries to be inclusive. It's very clicky with the groups in there and supervisors don't see this.

Can't remember, I left there in April and have had other roles since.

working in the field, meeting people and assisting Police

Writing reports and key statements for internal managers
