Catering assistant..job role .designated to one school ,at the start of interview..they asked to move around if you have a car .petrol allowance is mandatory if they decide to change their minds  ,you receive nothing. Then it's you ,your car own .petrol  own m.ot. own car insurance. Tax,parking, then some of the employees at certain schools are team players, some are not ,set in their ways .clicky, they been there longer than you so you can do most of the physical work .not have any cakes. Because it's for the children in the school .Even though other employees are eating cake ..but not you ..so if you can stick up for yourself and know your rights .you will be ok,depends  how strong minded you are  and not desperate because despration leads to toleraiting anything, and if you do not know your rights and are vulnerable, you will be taken advantage of..These jobs should be given to lone  parents on universal credit..and made mandatory..and a complete restructure of this job role ..Good Luck ..

A day for me was always busy,,up at 6am to get all kids up and ready for school and then onto the the school run.
Once getting home from the school run i still had a toddler at home so after spending time with him either at a toddler group or just at home i would then let him have a nap and then study for 2-3hours on my degree module. Once this was completed i would deal with the household chores and then it would be time to complete the school run. When the kids were home i would ensure all homework tasks were completed offering help as much as i could.
The hardest part of the job was just handling day to day life and keeping up the motivation to do the tasks required due to the grief i was dealing with. The most enjoyable part of the job was seeing my brothers leave school with GCSEs and go onto study at college. I also built up alot of confidence and motivation within my life in general.

My issue with Oldham council are the incentives used to prevent absence through sickness.  Oldham council give each of their employees 1 day off as a kind gesture when an employee has not had any time off work due to sickness.  My argument is that if I worked in the office or was a teaching assistant at a lower level then I may be able to carry out my duties despite not feeling 100%.  However, to come into work ill working in early years and still carry out my normal duties would be a hindrance to the children and the other staff.  Oldham council clearly have not made this inclusive to all their employees who are school based staff.  I believe that most staff in schools work incredibly hard and truly believe that people should be rewarded for this and not something beyond their control like falling ill.

Putting up with rude and arogant chargehand

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Too much favourtism
Certain individuals seem to get all the training course
And bad management and not much communication between them and employees

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
From supervisors and above they trust you and understand you know your job so let you get on with it.
Chargehand who is less experienced than empoyees dont know what they are doing. It seems the less experienced and qualified you are the less you get payed

The job role in itself was a varied admin role supporting governing bodies, daily work load was manageable and time was flexible. Oldham Council has many courses and programmes available to their staff for free which was fantastic and I really enjoyed this aspect. 

The role was temporary but many other temp positions available. I chose to leave because the majority of the work force is closer to retirement than early/mid career mark and could be a frustrating place to work. Many cannot use a computer and there was alot of negativity and moaning over not much. The Council would run alot better if the staff were given IT training, hours could be wasted by a whole team searching for a word document on one computer.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I feel that in my role that i do working for Oldham Council I feel i am my own boss ( I know I am not ) and i love my job I have no complains since working for them for 2 years so far .

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My most stressful part is the public (not all ) drivers.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I work outside by myself but when i have had a meeting i have not felt stressed and everyone seems to look happy .

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day for me is fun for my job role . Just a few hours a week.  Alot of days can also be wet but it goes with the job.

I ended up working for Oldham council through college, we did council meetings and did live feeds through there website.

I ended up on the camera most of the time making sure I got the right shots the director wanted and made sure they were perfect.

One of the hardest parts of the job was that you had to stand for the whole meeting where they can go on for hours and hours if they don't get to the summary they want on some of the topics raised.

The co workers I got to work with were great as we were all in the same boat and I got to learn a bit abut politics in the long run aswell, that previously I had no interest in.

There is a very relaxed atmosphere here which is nice however the work can often build up and leave you feeling overwhelmed. I worked here for several years and I loved most of my time here however it's very hard to progress to a new role, there is alot of pressure for you to remain in the same role for many years.

I would definitely recommend people to work here however be very aware that you need to show your value to management or else you could find your name on a list of redundancies.

I met some amaing role models and some superb managers and have never worked in such a homely environment. They work hard and are so friendly. The sence of acheivement was great when we delivered projects on time and well and it was nice to share this with other team members. Communication was good particulary in the Neighbourhood team where I respect many of the managers for there ability to problem solve work quickly, efficiently and timely.

A typical day was prepare the days paperwork and itinery, travel to meet the clients and assess their financial contributions towards their home care. Hardest part of the job was finding the properties in an area I wasn't familiar with. Most enjoyable part was meeting a variation of people, from teenagers to the elderly and having a pleasant chat with them. I learned all about the different benefits and was able to advise clients of their entitlement.
