If you are a student this is an ideal job, however this is not a job for anyone with a family to support. Zero hour contract is terrible and if management doesn't like you you won't get hours it's that simple. That being said it isn't the most difficult job and if you are working with a good bunch you can enjoy it. The best thing about working there was the co workers but that doesn't make up for the dramatic shift in hours after summer and christmas and the poor wages. A supervisor at the age of 20   will be paid less than a general over 24. It is true that you get two free passes every week but most times you are working too much to enjoy them or you haven't got enough shifts to pay for popcorn etc which is all full price. The turnover rate at the site I worked at was terrible seeing multiple generals and supervisors leaving to places that will give them the money they deserve for their work and I only worked there for just over a year. You cannot plan your weeks ahead as you will be emailed your rota on a tuesday to the following thursday. You are also paid weekly. Because you are on a zero hour contract you can get a text message an hour before your shift asking if you can take the day off and this can also happen an hour or two into your shift. This sounds great at first but you aren't being paid for those hours you are missing. If it is busy you could be asked to only take half of your break to makeup for poor planning of the rota. Not all supervisors are great at making sure you have had your breaks so don't be shy about asking if you can go.

Higher ups often don't listen or take on board to feedback provided from staff or other managers and often show favourtism.

Customers often trash screens and also cause unnecessary stressful and difficult cleaning/anti-social situations.

Overall, this is a decent student job for a few extra pound whilst studying, it's easy and the co-workers are what make the place. Hours can be flexible and decent but are also dependent on trade levels and weather conditions. These could vary anywhere from 4 hours - 40 hours. It's not suitable for those looking a stable permenent career. Its also a job that has lots of cleaning and paperwork attached. You won't be watching films or just scooping popcorn all day like most expect.

The staff were an absolute joy to work with and made the experience more fun, especially during the busier days, and the management were always friendly and understanding and worked with you if there was an issue that;

However this is where the pros stop, apart from holidays (Christmas, Halloween) it was very difficult to keep your shifts as they would cut shifts down that much to where you'd go a week or 2 with no pay; This was at it's worse especially during Summer even with blockbusters being released. 

Abuse from customers was horrific as well, During the covid cards and the installation of the kiosks, staff would be constantly bashed by ignorant customers believing they were in the right. However I will commend the management for being behind the staff and sticking up for them.

The benefits were appalling and not worth what you would have to deal with on a certain basis, only 2 free tickets a week that you would have to go into the branch on the day you wanted to see a film... And that's it. I find it baffling and a bit daft that the customers got way more benefits than the staff did through the omnipass, It would've been nice to get a slight discount on the food and snacks, although that is a company problem so I can't blame the branch for that

While I liked my on site manager and deputy, I feel upper management is what ruins the job. When I was initially hired I was told I would be getting at least 30 hours a week. About two weeks later, 4 more people were hired and then I was lucky to be getting 8 hours a week and if I took an unpaid day off one week they would refuse to give me any hours the rest of the week. Having spoke to the manager I know that this is all being dictated by upper management. Ended up having to leave because I was told the only way I could be guaranteed more than 8 hours a week is if I promised to work all 3 weekend days, every week. So you really have no work life balance whatsoever if you want to be able to earn enough to cover your bills. 

It would be a great job for a student or young person but if you have any responsibilities or bills at all, I would avoid this job like the plague.

Was sad that I had to go because as I said, everyone I worked with on site was really great and the managers were good craic but at the end of the day craic doesn’t pay the bills.

This was my first properly paying job, and it was the best place to start. You get fully trained and aided by colleagues, and it was enjoyable even at peak times. Great benefits such as 2 weekly free tickets, staff priced drinks, free popcorn when you see a film and the shifts tailored to your own needs, which is why the majority of staff members are students.
The managers were friendly and had a laugh, and I got trusted with supervisor duties, only missing out on the role as supervisor due to moving country to uni only 2 months later (which management were apologetic about but completely understandable reason).
The only down side was it being a zero hour contract, meaning work wasn't necessarily guaranteed. This can be advantageous to people seeking part time or flexible work but wouldn't be suitable to someone after a full time position.
Would definitely work there again if it was a full time position.

A general day would consist of either working on tills or being on cleaning. The cleaning wasn't strenuous work but was stressful when a new big release came out and a screen would be very messy. Often management and supervisors wouldn't offer much help yet you would be on a time constraint due to the nature of a cinema. The majority of the management are very kind and trustworthy and usually will have your back when dealing with customer complaints if you are in fact in the right of course. There was a cliquey culture but aside from that it was a very enjoyable place to work and the free tickets were a huge bonus, perhaps a staff discount on food and drink would go a long way though. 

The job is not the worst thing in the world, let's get that straight. You get the opportunity to work with some brilliant people who become life-long friends. 
This is by far the best thing about the job, with the only perk being a free ticket for you and a friend once a week, and even then you aren't guaranteed to have that as "blanket punishment" is frequently relied upon. 
Having a 0 hour contract has both its plus side and negative side. The plus side being the company can be very flexible around things such as University or if something happens in ones personal life. The down side of this is that you are not guaranteed good hours, especially during times when there are not many films out: you can work anywhere between 7 to 35 hours a week, on a weekly rota.
It is also crazy how messy people can be, this is something you come to find which does affect the job.

This is an absolutely awful company to work for! Please avoid at all costs for your sanity.
I worked at one of the UK locations that were taken over in December 2023 (formerly empire cinemas) and from day 1 it was atrocious.

Company doesn’t seem to know what they are doing and were completely unprepared for everything. They don’t seem to care a lick about their staff, just about making more and more money for themselves! The hours are almost nonexistent and they made us all redundant to scare the landlord into lowering their rent!!! They succeeded and the jobs were safe again, but it was truly awful. It put the whole team on edge.

Other than that - The location I worked at had lovely people (although most are leaving due to the poor conditions) and the job itself is easy and can be fun on a busy day.

0 hour contract, 2 shifts a week, with too much staff. Management will give hours to friends and the scraps to others. Senior Management is either ignorant or doesn't care. 

There is consistent dramatics between staff, booking time off is a hassle even when the place is all but void of customers. You're rewarded by who you're friendly with, be it promotion, shifts or otherwise. Not a healthy work environment at all. 

Easy job, tasks are never too demanding. Customers are as you'd expect, ignorant or vile. A good starting job, but be gone within a year. The staff turn over rate is incredible because hours aren't guaranteed, which is in part understandable, but having an excess in management when all they do is stand around and talk 80% of the time is a bit insulting. 

This company honestly does not care about the staff, their motto is "for the benefit of the company". They will expect you to go above and beyond for little pay and they will constantly cancel your shifts at the last minute. They use the threat of cutting your hours, like hours should be a perk to have working for them. 

Little to no training is provided and when you refuse to do something above your responsibilities, they will penalise you and completely dismiss you as an individual with any personal matters going on outside of work. Promotions happen through favouritism so its best not to look for a career in the company unless your best buds with selective managers.
