Warehouse Nights Role
A typical day at work: Arrive to work being understaffed, be told that its another 250k night and it's up to us when we finish, even though we shall run out of cages an hour into the shift. Be told we are one team; then realise that days haven't restocked and that drivers have left cages on their lorries because they also finish late and can't be bothered to unload them. Usually finishing up to 2 hours late a shift.
What you believe you learned: Don't offer to do anything extra, first aid, first marshall, checking or replen. You will not get paid any more for these additional skills, and will just be given more work. Supervisors have said that these 'increase your skills on your CV' which; if a business telling you that these skills allow you to get another job easier, then they are clueless as to how to run a business.
Management: Kinda still don't know what they do, like to have a lot of time in the office or in the smoking area, while telling staff they are not allowed a 5 minute break. They suck up to the bosses and drivers, and couldn't care about their own department. They only help when its really dire, or when it benefits them.
Culture: Nearly all staff on the nights are chill with each other. We help each other out, no divisions between people of age, culture etc. We all get along; and our distain of the team leaders kinda unites us.
Hardest part of the Job: Actually getting to leave on time regardless of how hard you work.
Enjoyable part of the Job: Well the work is easy and simple, the benefits are mostly useless aside from the free food (which equates to fruit and veg in the canteen) but they recently added a death in service benefit, which while nice, its a bit grim when the only new addition includes one that you die.

Dismissed 2 weeks into probationary due to “negative attitude”. This was due to me asking colleagues about how they manage there work life balance, how they plan there week, if they stick to working hours of 8.30 till 5 of adapt them hours for operational needs. How often they are out on the road/how much work from home they do. As a new starter I was simply trying to get a better understanding of what would be expected of me. Prior to been dismissed no issues was brought to my attention. I left a company I was happy at because I thought this would be a good opportunity, for them to part company with me with little to no explanation or compassion. I would caution anyone thinking of applying at pilgrim to think long and and hard as they will not think twice before leaving you unemployed.



Transport planners don't have any CPC training therefore no clue on WTD or drivers hours. They schedule drivers for next day work with less than 11 hours rest and without asking if they're ok with it, they do not have any idea how to plan a route, it's up to drivers to put the route they're given in order and make it work, hence making the planners look good. Drivers are not listened to, they get planned for 12 hours as a regular day even though overtime is optional and the day shift is 8 hours basic. If you're a thorn in someones side they try their best to find any excuse to get rid of you. They are awful at retaining good drivers, but getting better each day at sacking them. 

I regret joining this company, the workers themselves are alright but anyone above them either struggle to run the place by themselves, or just tell you what you want to hear and do nothing.

Favouritism, inability to listen to concerns, cheap uniform and a lack of understanding of the basic job processes by higher ups. I would strongly advise you avoid this business at all costs. They will take advantage of you and your good will.

They stated during induction its contracted 8:30-5:00. SInce i've joined there's not been one day we finished at 5, can be as late at 6:50. The lower staff have clearly stated their frustration but again, nothing seems to be done or even addressed.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Unless your a bum licker then don't go here   , management are absolutely shocking . They haven't got a clue how to run a bath let alone a factory. Awful place . Don't waste your time .

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management,  like to micro manage.  Which ends up you picking up the xxxx. N then get reprimanded for it . 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Depressing , no rewards . The more work you do they reward you with even more work . Never happy

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Depressing   , repetitive,  boring, don't get trained ,

5am starts which are fine, the expectation that you’ll work a 15 hr day is not. Even up until 2023, a fantastic place to work but drivers come and go quicker than you can learn their names & faces. Loyalty is not rewarded & every department is fed up. Too much is put upon drivers, up top don’t care, Management is out of touch, vehicles aren’t as clean as they could be. Some smashing characters, strong friendships & genuine people amongst the workforce however. 

I have never worked at such a genuinely positive working environment. Almost everybody in my time at the company who I have worked with has been looking out for both the best interested of myself and the company. Everybody pitches in and takes their role at the company seriously and we all genuinely want the business to succeed. My day to day job is very dynamic and has me doing new and interesting things everyday and I never feel pressured to hit goals and targets. I am given enough breathing room and space to actually learn things and do everything to the best of my ability. I feel very lucky to be a part of the company.

Pilgrim Foodservice is a really friendly place to work, everyone is always willing to help and support you. 
Everyone in the company takes the time to say hello to you and ask how you are. There is a great sense on camaraderie and belonging, it does feel like an extended family. 
At Christmas the Directors take the time to make everyone in the company a hamper each to take home. We can get a discounted gym membership, receive above statutory holiday entitlement, recruitment bonus if we recommend someone successfully. We also have access to a platform where we can get discounts and a great pension scheme.

The workplace culture I experienced was one that was fun and very relaxed. The majority of staff would arrive well ahead of the start time , giving ample opportunity to socialise and introduce yourself if you're a new starter. The job can be very physically demanding, with most of the roles within the warehouse involving lifting and walking over the course of the shift. The working hours can be somewhat inconsistent, with the summer months being the busiest, particularly the bank holidays. These hours drop off during the winter months, meaning less opportunities for overtime.

Been working at pilgrim nearly 2 years now , would strongly recommend anyone looking for work to give it a try . Last year the company continued to grow and gave all staff a £200 voucher to spend on site on foods as a thank you . Along with free family tickets to a local bonfire display. We also enjoyed one of the best work Christmas parties ( all paid for by pilgrim food service)  I have ever experienced. Looking for work ?  Why not give pilgrim a try ? I did and actually enjoy going to work .
