The teams you work with are genuinely supportive, and colleagues look out for one another in ways that management does not. Office renovations have improved the workspace slightly, and there are occasional snacks, although they are inconsistently restocked. Informal social events do happen, but these are entirely organized by staff, with no funding or support from the business itself. Management often highlights these events as corporate initiatives, giving credit to themselves rather than the employees who actually make them happen.

Burnout is a constant reality across the development teams. Workload is unevenly distributed, with higher-performing staff routinely expected to take on more than is sustainable. This has resulted in chronic overwork, eroded work-life balance, and a sense of inevitability that exhaustion is part of the job. High turnover is visible, with developers leaving shortly after joining and remaining staff struggling to absorb the additional responsibilities. Office space is limited, mandatory in-office days are enforced, and evenings and weekends are commonly expected, leaving little room for recovery.

Project and product planning is inconsistent and often ad hoc. Work is frequently handed to developers at the last minute, even though audits show that tasks have been sitting untouched for months. Product owners and delivery managers change requirements after work is delivered and blame developers for delays, creating confusion and frustration. There is little time to properly investigate work before starting or to thoroughly test before release, resulting in repeated production issues. Emergency releases occur multiple times per week, often for critical problems that disrupt key processes. Customers are clearly dissatisfied with both support and the instability of the product, but these concerns rarely translate into meaningful internal change.

Career development is effectively stagnant. Discussions about proper career paths have occurred multiple times, yet nothing has been implemented. Pay is not standardized, and the only way to achieve a raise is by aligning with higher-ups, often at the expense of personal time. Employees are not rewarded for initiative or innovation, and lead developers often focus on nitpicking rather than supporting creative solutions. Recruitment has largely frozen, graduate and placement programs have been cut, and returning offers are not guaranteed. Meanwhile, workload continues to increase, particularly with new international alliances, leaving existing staff stretched ever thinner.

Management periodically acknowledges dissatisfaction in internal meetings and conferences, but meaningful change has been limited. Over the past 18 months, the culture has worsened rather than improved, with developers becoming increasingly stressed, overworked, and undervalued. Salaries and benefits remain below industry standards, while company resources are often focused on acquisitions and external projects rather than supporting the people actually building the product.

Processes for handling incidents and development tasks are poorly defined, leaving teams to improvise solutions under pressure. There is little consistency in how work is reviewed or signed off, which often results in duplicated effort and repeated mistakes. Documentation is sparse or outdated, and knowledge sharing is minimal, making it difficult for new staff to integrate or for existing staff to resolve issues efficiently. The lack of structured guidance means that much of the day-to-day work relies on individual memory and experience rather than standardized practices.

The overall company culture discourages initiative. Proposals for improvements or new approaches are frequently dismissed or redirected without explanation, which undermines motivation and stifles innovation. Recognition is inconsistent, and achievements are often overlooked unless they align with the priorities of senior management. Staff are left feeling expendable, and there is a growing sense that loyalty and hard work are undervalued. This environment contributes to widespread dissatisfaction and reinforces the pattern of high turnover, as many employees actively seek positions elsewhere where their contributions will be respected and rewarded.

Staff wellbeing must be treated as a priority. Workloads need to be balanced, planning processes standardized, and developers given sufficient time to investigate, develop, and test their work properly. Conflicts between product teams should be minimized, and last-minute changes reduced to prevent unnecessary stress. Career development programs and fair pay structures need to be implemented, and employees should be recognized for contributions and innovative ideas. Without meaningful change, high turnover and burnout will continue, and the company risks losing the trust, loyalty, and expertise of the very people who make the business function.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Worked here long enough to see the same issues repeat over and over. The work itself can be enjoyable at times, but the environment around it makes it hard to recommend as a long term place to build a career.

The culture feels extremely clique driven. Progress often depends more on who you know than the quality of your work. Hard work and initiative rarely feel recognised, which creates little motivation to go above and beyond.

Pay is below market standard for similar roles, and salary increases feel disconnected from individual performance. Company wide rises, when they happen, make strong performers feel undervalued. There is little incentive to push yourself when effort and results are treated the same as doing the bare minimum.

Management and internal processes are another major issue. Constant restructures have become the default excuse for stalled progression, unclear direction, and lack of development opportunities. Teams are regularly shifted around with little transparency, while employees are expected to stay patient and keep waiting for things to improve.

The attitude from leadership only reinforces the problem. In a company meeting, the CEO openly stated that “if you don’t like it, you know where the door is.” That mindset explains a lot about the culture and the high staff turnover. Experienced employees leave, knowledge leaves with them, and the lack of experience across teams continues to grow year after year.

I would not recommend staying here for more than a year unless you are comfortable with limited progression, weak recognition, and ongoing instability. Many people end up stuck in the same cycle of liking the actual work, but becoming increasingly frustrated with management, company culture, and the way the business operates.

Pinewood provide a dealer management system that is accessed via cloud computing over the internet rather than standalone software. 

My role at Pinewood is in the form of support. This role required two types of support for the users. There is the Dealer Management Solution side, which would consist in the actually use of the software and the IT Technician Role that played alongside it. My role is to look after a selected amount of clients with any advice or enquiry whether it is a technical issue or a system issue. When a user contacts me regarding a system issue, this would normally be a case of walking a user through a process they are unsure about or offering an alternative if they wished to do some think which the system could not for-fill. A typical technical issue would be any think from setting up a network printer in a dealership to installing a PDQ (chip n pin) machine so that a user can take card payments and many more. A lot of technical issue would involve me using remote desktop software to remote into a user pc to setup various things.

Another role would be to recommend to users the most efficient way of getting the most out of the system to help them manage and increase their business. I would do this by analysing their system and the data to see if they are using the system to its full potential and that they are utilising the software to its maximum potential. From here I would suggest any changes or any adjustments that could be made. I would then explain to the user why I think they should make the changes and the impact it will have on their business.

Support worker role at Pinewood technologies was awful. You are under appreciated as a person, everybody else in the company looks down on you even though the job is super hard and stressful. When you first begin working at Pinewood technologies, you are promised to progress easily through the belt system, however when you are actually working on the belt system the rules change so it becomes impossible to progress and gain a higher salary. Management aren’t nice and therefore you feel like you cannot approach them when you are struggling with something however HR are lovely and will always help you. There is a lot of favouritism within the company and if you aren’t one of the favourites then you will not succeed at Pinewood technologies. The job was really stressful and you had to work really hard. You start on the lowest possible salary and this is far too low for how hard the job is. Overall I wouldn’t recommend the application support consultant role at Pinewood technologies and there are jobs out there that are so much better with better opportunities to succeed within the company. 

The management is poor. They don’t progress you expect loads of work from you and just expect you to pick up other people’s slack for minimum wage. The most toxic environment I’ve ever worked in and treated brown and black people so differently. After about a month in I prayed to god I could find a new job because this was so mentally draining and toxic

Fun workplace with great team communication and accessibility with senior management. Middle managers less willing to allow advancement, which is unfortunate. 

Great team-building and other workplace culture, including an onsite gym and specifically designed dining space to encourage cohesion.

I found the place to be welcoming and easy enough to pick up. There's anyways someone who's able to support you and if you need any assistance there's no shame in reaching out. Any issues are addressed promptly and I found it really enjoyable to work there, honestly sad I left </3

All I will say is to anyone who is thinking of leaving their job to come work here....don't do it. Your every move is watched, they are understaffed and expect you to do the work of 3 people. Just save yourself the stress and dont do it.

Typical day involved liaising with customers - learnt basic computer skills in the beginning -  and a good knowledge of a dealer management system. Great friendly staff.
