Working within a small team of Classroom Assistants with Teachers and Senior Management towards the goal of Allowing all children the Opportunity to access Curriculum Aid and Assistance where required to enhance their learning and abiltity, to support and encourage them to perform to their best ability within the class or in small groups, contributing and being active in their social skills towards others, supervision of their social interactions and emotonal and physical support where required. 

I learned many things from this role in it's different forms in Primary and High School, from playing my part in an administrative capacity to being A support towards The General Wellbeing of each Pupil in the Class to which I was allocated.

I had very little dealing with Management, My first postion after training had a staff appraisal about threemonths in, where I got the opportunity to apply myself to the possibility of further traing and set some small goal targets.

I worked with a small team, where the working atmosphere was pleasant and enjoyable.

I loved this job so much I struggle to find the hard part, perhaps expectations at times, where time was short and prioritising duties was a matter of perception.

Everything about this Job made me career satisfied. I enjoyed seeing children of a varied range, enjoy their Education, try hard to reach their goals with encouragement, participate with others and being able to gain the respect of Pupils I worked with and their peers.

What is the best part of working at the company?
There are always opportunities to progress your career,and lots of opportunities for overtime,sometimes in different roles.
You get to meet a vast array of different and interesting people from all walks of life.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with unexpected situations which sometimes arrive due to mother nature,for instance coming in to start your shift and the sealing has collapsed due to water ingression and flooding.
Or dealing with loss of power to the building for one reason or the other.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Generally convivial ,and on most occasions funny and good natured with typical Scottish banter.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
From my point of view very busy which i liked.

I get to work on interesting and challenging projects such as the Provost Community Awards for which I researched and produced the report which proposes how to overhaul the structure and function of the awards.

As a result of this project I liaise and work with the Provost, and other senior managers, and elected members on a daily basis. This has greatly improved my confidence and knowledge and has allowed me to become really assertive and comfortable when doing presentations and work for high ranking individuals.

Moreover, I have learned an invaluable amount about professionalism and application in the workplace as a result of working with and learning from colleagues in postions of considerable power and authority.



Very busy during month of March, as new council tax bills are sent out to customers. Learned how to work under pressure and on very tight deadline. The hardest part of the job was when post was missing, or filled under a wrong name, as a clerical assistant you are responsible and have attention to details, because if this happens then it delays the assessor on making decisions and clients become very frustrated, the other hardest thing was working on a 3 months contracts, not knowing there will extend it at the end of the period said. The most enjoyable part of the job is when all the applications were logged in on time and indexed for assessors to make their decisions, you kinda felt relieved and very happy for the achievement. overall it was an amazing experience and an honor to work for such a big organisation.

Child Day Care: keeps one on one's toes!
There is NO typical day at work; that's what makes it unique, just like each child we work with.
Every day I work humbles me. I learn alongside the children and my colleagues and this makes me appreciate the variety of people in my life and the opportunities and experiences they enrich me with. If this seems hyperbole, I'm sorry, but I genuinely feel each work day deepens my learning and increases enthusiasm for working with children's services.

The downside is setting up each day due to amount of equipment. This is more than made up for by the pleasure of seeing the children (and often, the parents) develop.
Even the paperwork's a challenge that encourages constant evolution of learning.

Lazy workers that want to sleep on shift, spend half a shift on the phone  and not turn up in the morning on time seem to get offered fulltime even when they are just in the door. Some full time staff think that the seasonal staff are there too do their jobs for them & the supervisor's seem happy too tell some staff about work ethic & conduct  whilst scared too tell others. Iv'e seen guys wearing shorts & trackie bottons and instead of getting told to put on the uniform, they get praised with full time or an extention.  Management & supervisiours don't know who does and doesn't deserve to be given full time work. Keep making terrible decisions  & this will add to the high staff turnover. Cant run a bath never mind a buisnesd.

I always enjoyed meeting and greeting the various people visiting the office to attend a meeting, and it was part of my duty to ensure that they were directed to the appropriate meeting room.I also was responsible for compiling a spreadsheet once a month and learned how to format it according to the managers instructions.I class myself as a peoples person and always enjoyed being of help to all other colleagues when needed. As I was only ever part-time the hardest part of the job was to expand on my work experience within the office where the task wasn't needed till late afternoon.The most enjoyable part of the job was the building of a good rapport with the girls in the office.

Worked seasonal for few years ok job as I enjoy working outdoors but think it is ran badly by supervisors and team leaders hardly ever get uniform. If you apply for permanent positions that eventualy become available it dosent matter if you have more experience or more to offer than others as in had training or have certificates for the position the jobs are basically ear marked for people they know who they want which is extremely unfair also people that have just started working there within couple months have got permanent positions over workers with more experience or training that have been there alot longer which is strange or favouritism.

Employed as a Hgv driver for waste services, not enough staff far too much work lots of staff off with work related stress, taking on temporary worked hard then paid off as there is no money. Poor management, senior management don't care about workers well being all about getting the bins off the streets, lack of uniforms, blame culture for chargehands and management, if it wasn't for the temporary workers praying to get kept on then lots more work would not get done, getting followed in a van by management, pulled in for anything small although zero praise given. Good money and terms hellish job with the cuts to budgets. And poor management.

Finishing time days are very long and consistently being bullied

Management from supervisor poor man management skills they are constantly disagreeing with yo putting you under constant pressure and use bully boy techniques daily

Miserable stressful demoralising underpaid pressurised 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
From the minute you clock in till you clock out management are constantly hounding you they have no man management skills and are power hungry
