A very toxic senior management team who blame a lot of their own downfalls on other people. There’s a feeling like Big Brother is watching you and you either put up and buy into the cult-like mentality that you are lucky to work there, or life becomes very difficult. Feedback about certain aspects of roles is not taken seriously by HR, a robotic team who forget the ‘human’ element of there job title. The demands put on staff are sometimes absurd. Some fantastic people work there, which is the saving grace. People who are so committed to giving students the best chances and to doing a good job get very little recognition. People who have performed exceptionally high simply get more work piled on them for no more money. Pay is abhorrent, many hardworking colleagues are struggling to make ends meet. 

While the college itself has a strong reputation, my experience was overshadowed by poor leadership. My Line Manager frequently used verbal intimidation, shouted at staff, and created a toxic work environment. Their unprofessional behavior made it difficult to feel valued or supported.

There was no effective HR support to address these issues, leaving staff with nowhere to turn. As a result, multiple employees from the same department left due to the unhealthy work culture. The lack of accountability from senior management made it clear that staff wellbeing was not a priority.

Unless there are major changes in leadership and workplace culture, I would not recommend working here.



Runshaw College DO NOT care about their employees. The most staff benefit from is flowers after being there 15+ years. Doing a good job means 10x more work being loaded on you with very minimal recognition. There are teachers who speak so poorly of students. Management is poor, they have very little idea of what their staffs job roles are as they tend to double in volume if the staff member works hard. TOXIC CULTURE. Only enjoyable thing about the job was helping the students achieve the best and there are a select few that have the students best interest at heart. Unless management wakes up and recognises staff for their commitment and students needs instead of prioritising ‘looking good’, do not work here. 

The pay is good, the expectations are high. the culture whilst i was there was that you are the best and should commit to maintaining that high status. I'm still not entirely sure if that was a good thing or a bad one. that means you need to really be all in if you are going to fit in there. The job needs to be a real passion for you, if you just want an easy wage i wouldn't recommend it. 

I attend classes throughout the day from Monday to Wednesday at this college and attend a placement on Thursdays and Fridays. I work with a variety of tutors, pupils and children on my course. The hardest part of the job is moving from placement to placement and moving from the place you know and are comfortable in to somewhere you have never been before and where you do not know anyone. The most enjoyable part of being at this college is the learning experiences, meeting new people and gaining a qualification in something I love doing.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very good. Friendly and accommodating staff and management. A well structured course that is well understood with positive aims for the learners. Only downside was the lack of access to tech.

Travelling, sadly it was just too far of a compute.

Excellent, friendly and helpful.

Stanard teaching. One unit per week, five times (+)

Staff are scared to speak out, for good reason. You have to be prepared to buy into the delusion that it’s a great place to be and you’re lucky to work there.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Non stop, never enough time to get all the work done. No support.

Workload can be stressful and senior managers only pay lip service to staff wellbeing. If you like working in a dept with lovely, dedicated people though, this is the place. Just don't rely on your employer caring about you, because they only care about stats and money. Good students and dedicated staff, nice campus, but expect to be overworked and met with indifference and inaction if you mention this.

Good if you need a job that is term time working only as you do not need to pay for childcare in school holidays if you have young children but manager and supervisors run the service very poorly. It can be hard work and fast paced 

enjoyable, friendly, i learnt new things every day, increased my skills, the culture was very good. the hardest part of the job was getting used to a new system. the most enjoyable part of the job would be the people i worked with
