This franchise has come far over my 3~ years in the company. They've gotten much better with communication beyond word of mouth by the manager, and are more than willing to listen to their people and from experience, take what we have to say on board. They promote family values, and do their best to try and maintain that. Never had to worry about my job throughout COVID, always kept in touch with the staff to keep us all updated. Head Office are all very friendly and easy to speak to.

Line manager helped forward my progression in the store; just before COVID I was due my Barista Maestro training, and now it's finally picked back up and almost completed, I'm having to relocate! I've never felt like I needed to push for that progression (though I'm sure it would have been welcomed if I asked sooner), and was offered when I was most confident, ready and willing.

Actual day-to-day in a store will vary from location. I've worked in 3 stores and every experience is different. Can be fast paced and busy, or it can be a bit slower and allows you to have a more friendly atmosphere with your customers and build relationships with regulars. The most enjoyable part about the job, and the hardest, is the customers. The customers make or break your day - but 90% of the time everyone is lovely and friendly - it's only through COVID we've had more bother from customers with all the restrictions, and Head Office were understanding of our struggles and did their best to support their staff in their decisions with dealing with those types of people.

Pay rates are going to increase in the franchise; which is nice to see. Can't be helped that minimum wage is so low as per government standards, otherwise I'd give more stars on the salary/benefits. 

Overall, a great franchise to work for. Never had any issues with my Line manager or Head Office.

They give off the impression that they are this lovely family run business, when in fact this does not work in your favour. You will be expected to do a job that you are not being paid for. Continual false promises about promotions and progression within the company. Always fobbed off when you try and bring this up with them. You can give so much of your life/years to this place but in the end you are replaceble and they couldn't care less about you. If you are not upper management you mean nothing to them. Don't expect to feel supported by HR as they will only ever take the side of the higher ups. It's listed in your contract not to talk to other staff about your pay, as they know if you do you will find out that some people have less responsibility but are still being paid the same as you. Management expect you to use your free time to help them out but ask the same of your manager and they couldn't care less. Management able to go for appointments during their shift but if you need any similar support its an instant no. One rule for one, one rule for another.  Absolutely no benefits, nothing extra for working bank holidays and continuously contacted even on your day off. This place may look great when you first start working there but very quickly you will realise it is not. 

fun working environment, high demanding, targets are a little hard to meet with sales during trade at times, flexible if you need certain days off or cant come to work for whatever reason. a typical day at work is busy but not always a busy day is promised. i have learnt a lot of different types of coffee skills and the ins and outs of how a business works with also how much goes into it. management i think is different in every store with me having to work in other stores to help them out has shown me the way a team works is all based on how they get treated by their manager. i have an amazing manager which makes working at busy times easier. the hardest part of the job is having to pick up after people who aren't pulling their weight. the most enjoyable part of  the job is making customers smile and also the interaction we have with the top managers when they thank us for the hard work it makes us realise we are being noticed for all our hard work that we put into the store on a daily business.

Typically my day consists of making coffee for our customers whilst performing at my best to provide them with a good experience so that they'll leave happy and come back again. I've worked for a wide range of managers with different styles of management and I've never had a bad thing to say about any of them. The culture within the team is always tight knit. We all do things outside of work together too. 

The hardest part of the job for me is when we have a never ending queue that we have to deal with all day. Only really happens at the weekend and in the morning but it can be stressful. Luckily I was there long enough to not be put off too much by it. However, the friends you make as a team member is one of the best bits. I hope to stay in contact with them for a long time to come. Knowing you've made a positive impact on somebody's day is also a very rewarding feeling. 

This job has taught me how to go above and beyond for the customers and how to work effectively in a team to get the people what they want. 

I worked as a Barista Maestro for just over two years, I loved my time with Costa and SimTrava. The team I worked within were amazing and  we were all there to support each other. I’ve made so many great friends within in the company. 
There’s always opportunities to progress in the company with supervisor positions and manager roles popping up within the franchise. 
There is great support for all staff during work hours and outside working hours. If you’re ever concerned or unsure on a situation your manager or area manager is always on call and happy to help with any issues. 
Even though at times it can be busy especially on weekends, as long as you have a strong team everything runs smoothly. It’s been great to meet lots of new people and chat to regulars on a daily basis. I will miss that aspect of the job. 
Training is was also carried out well in my store we  had a buddy system for new starters so if you ever needed anything you could turn to them. 


I worked for simtrava for a long time , when I started the company was still relatively small , At this time I felt I was valued and appreciated. When I left , the company had expanded significantly,  I understand that growth is important for longevity however , the fundamentals of what made simtrava successful have been long forgotten. Staff are overworked and massively underappreciated. I've known members of staff actually have to take sick leave due to exhaustion , only to be asked when they will be back to work ,not how they are. 
Simtrava WAS a great company and one I took pride in working for , now I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. 

They promote the absolute wrong people in to positions of management. Most of the management team have zero people management skills and are underqualified to be in such a position. Whilst other, more fitting, employees are passed over for promotion , because their face doesn't fit. 

Working in costa coffee has its ups and downs as you would in any other hospitality environment but having a great team and great manager that supports you is highly essential which i can proudly say has been the case for my nearly 3 years of working at costa.

Typical day at work is fast paced, busy but working with colleagues who become your friends make it 100 times easier and better. It is easy to create friendships at Costa. You will help each other out and support each other. Making your everyday tasks easy and enjoyable.

The hardest part of the job is that customers can be tricky but it is easy to learn what to do in certain situations as your team will support you and share their experiences with you.

I was excited to start this job however it quickly went terrible and I felt mistsble coming into work. It was so busy yet barely any staff are hired or put on shift, management most the time were chatting amongst themselves while we were running around, dealing with snobby customers, cleaning tables, taking in tables and chairs, cleaning  toilets, dishes  taking orders  making drinks... dealing with some of the strangest customers too. I felt like it was a care home. For the money it isn't worth the stress. It was a cliquey environment too. I felt so awkward and could tell I was not liked. Shifts I asked for to be off, I kept getting put in them. The company and costa really, do not care about you. For how much the prices are now, I'd go elsewhere 


There is a positive workplace environment with a wide range of customers to talk to, including regulars who you will learn plenty about far beyond their choice of drink. Staff are friendly and happy to help new members of the team with any problems they may face during their induction period. The manager is friendly and approachable and is always on hand to help with issues that the team may face.   Working at Costa is an adventure in itself and there are plenty of opportunities to learn something new.

Customer interaction is the forefront of every day and team engagement is a must to be able to ensure the business is successful! 
Open door policy with management and upper management, always willing to go above and behind to ensure employees are taken care of. 
Not only being part of a team but creating a family within the store. Knowing that those you spend the most hours with a day have a mutual respect and care for one another.
