A wonderful company to work for, if your face fits, if it doesn't and you appear to be pragmatic or in any way conceptual or innovative, it is seen as a divergence from the company line.
When the train pulls out of the station you'd best be on it 100%, or you'll fall off for sure, it's a company who's got where they are today, by hard-nosed, business ,having few ethics ,and fewer scruples, on how they obtain their business.
So if you're looking for a demanding and aggresive forward looking company, where if you're ruthless, then this is the company for you, if you don't mind being just another number on the payroll, they'll suit you fine.
They achieve superb revenue growth, by cost cutting, applying good business acumen, and by an aggresive sale and marketing approach, they'll always be around, as they don't knoe the word no !
Typical day at Speedy, is get there early, go home late, fill every working hour with effort and resoucefullness, no lunch , eat it on the hoof, examine every decision and cover your back, as part of the uniform is a tee-shirt with a roundal target on the back.
Make sure that all, i's are dotted and t's crossed, and that you've not left yourself or your team open to critisism, or rebuke, filing, reporting and telesales , also take up a a lot of time, as you're constantly reviewing your progress and performance aginst that of your peers,
There is no sentiment in this business, you learn as you go along, or by asking, which is seen as a weakness, hopefully you've built up a multi-tasking , unified team , who get on with the job , more often than not, you inherit a bunch of badly managed and lackadaisical , bunch of misfits, who seem intent on your demise.
Hardest part of the job , is coming from a previous employer , who cared, and treated you as an individual, Speedy is a culture shock for most people, which leads to the best part of the job, that if you have had the luck and opportuinity to have and build a good team around you, that getting a good bonus for them , as a result of their flexibility and hard work, makes it all seem worth while.

One saying comes to mind when I think of Speedy and my time there,

" Doing a good job there, is like wetting yourself in a very dark suit , It gives you a lovely warm feeling!, but nobody notices "

They have production software that fails to reflect the true working practices witnessed. Certain management at shop floor level have zero people skills. Although unprovable, one discussion I had told of an area manager who instructed someone to reprimand a woman worker and 'make sure she cries'. In twelve months I had no direct professional interaction regarding what was expected of me, which made it impossible to consider approaches. There is one employee who is left unreprimanded despite aggressively arguing with younger workers and threateningly pointing a screwdriver at them whilst saying 'don't you effin walk away from me' . But as he is in the circle of the suspect floor management nothing was done. What I learned was that Speedy Assett Services' ground level management are massively underskilled whilst having the power to hire and fire. Workforce issues and infighting are ignored for the most part. Furthermore, the level of waste in terms of asset repairs is astonishing. They have everything they need to maintain existing stock,but prefer to 'send it to auction'. I have at times found brand new parts stuffed away in the scrap bins, which I returned to stores.
There is no logical system that considers the financial aspects of the company or it's shareholders, instead there is a focus on individual percentages, which is capable of manipulation to suit whichever scenario demands it. I could add plenty more issues that are contributing to the companies failings, such as no official clocking in and out system, your timekeeping is measured by the security access entry system, something they use against people they do not favour. My level of education, thankfully, means I have a lot of working opportunities that surpass this companies ethos, so bitterness and all those types of potential accusations levelled toward an ex employee, in this case do not count.

Should be a good company to work for and at times it can give that impression. Money isn't great but the job is relatively secure and most things are not beyond the average person, very good at training people although this can depend on who's doing the course, some external courses are 100% while others are very poor.
 Big problem though is managers and their ability to manage a depot, some really good people have left the company over the last 5 years, some of whom have been  vastly experienced in the hire industry. 

If you're from Liverpool forget it as the depot is the worst in the company, it's not the lads who deliver or see to you in the warehouse it's the office staff. Quite frankly they have the worst attitude of any Speedy depot in Britain, they are disorganised and ignorant in the extreme, from ignoring you at the counter to blaming everyone else but themselves when it goes wrong, they even ignore you when you have an issue. They have a manager who is so inept it beggars belief and his under manager in tools has the charisma of concrete block. Apparently the general manager spends more time on the phone talking about playing golf than he does helping customers and is clueless about the equipment. 
 We've noticed the high turnover of drivers there and we hear some stories about the way the staff are treated that we'd never want to work in that depot. We even hear tales from other Speedy depots that their drivers hate going to Liverpool, that says it all.

So we'd avoid Liverpool, but Speedy can offer on paper at least an interesting career for anyone looking to get into the hire side of the construction industry, or at least a leg up the ladder.

usual driving job, over staffed purposely to put lowest “skilled” / least liked doing the work that they couldn't fulfill the position i.e. nights and distribution network. 
Employed as hiab, but class 2, and lower.

They pay for training, because they deliver the CPC training; be warned all the drivers that are there for renewal end up doing 2 weeks in the yard; because you could be there for 4 years, 11 months and 28 days and have done 5 days worth of training with them, but then leave and have 0 hours CPC because they purposefully wait to pay and put them through the system. i.e. potentially sabotage your in work benefit retrospectively, also if you are aware of this limit your ability to leave suddenly without having to pay for the training yourself.  
There are obvious issues with favouritism and purposely not disclosing pay scales. Men who have driven class 1 for them for 10+ years are/ were being paid less than new drivers driving class 2, potentially less than 7.5 tonne drivers. The pay isn't great anyway, but relatively good benefits e.g.  large discount on hire, “training paid for” 
Underhanded management tactics (as described above) which is just a lack of basic respect. Leaves you wondering which other agreements haven't been honored. Nepotism throughout the organisation, in fact the company is proud of this aspect of working life. Stagnation in role, no room upwards as the company is seemingly top heavy. 

Work life balance because of working hours, set by the industry i.e. building sites closing at 16:00/17:00. Experience. 

Poor pay, hidden pay scales, nepotism, favourites, no advancements, underhanded management… 


Cons: Company has very high turn around of staff mainly because of poor pay and lack of management. Get promised lots in interview until u sign the contract then get told u won't need half the things they promised, The Power manager is a store man and I believe he has been promoted above his capability with no experience And poor people skills. Poor transport management you sit in yard from 8am till 11/12am before the equipment is ready to be delivered not getting back till 8/9pm so constantly playing catch up. 

Takes a long time to get equipment needed to do job new straps etc even screen wash takes months before getting ordered if at all depending on budgets. 

Pros: Company provides decent training and a decent truck for the job. fellow work colleges are very helpful and made the job a lot more satisfying, Working in a small team together trying to  hit targets and get the job done, Pleasant customers that u could get the crack with.

Would Need a very laid back approach to the job quite stressful at times and management likes to pass the stress on and doesn't help very often when things don't go to plan. Need to be able to deal with the a lot of situations on your own intuitive. 

Got told by a few management that possibly closing speedy power in Inverness if they don't hit targets by the end of year so no much job security,

In all it could possibly be a decent job if can arrange a decent starting salary because very hard to get a pay rise once u have signed contract.

Taking of orders, processing and following them through to completion.

Arranging delivery and collection of orders in according with the customers requirements.

Liaising, where required, with other depot employees, customers, depots, workshops and sales teams

Ensuring that all opportunities to maximise the depot and the groups sales to a customer are attained

Ensuring that all products hired to customers are safe and have been properly tested in accordance with company procedures

Processing all input to IT systems and paperwork relating to on-hires, off-hires and stock transfers, etc.

Developing and maintaining knowledge of the depots equipment for hire/sale including basic knowledge of accessory, safety and test & run requirements

Handling of cash transaction and reconciliation on a daily basis

Ensuring that all PPE and accessory requirements are identified at the point of taking customer orders

Assisting in the completion of asset and stock counts when Conducting additional ad hoc depot duties as may be designated by the depot Manager from time to time requested by the depot Manager

Keeping the depot, and in particular the hire desk area, tidy at all times

Wearing full uniform and PPE at all times

Maintaining knowledge of the groups equipment for hire/sale and activities

Conducting additional ad hoc duties as may be required

Following all company procedures and policies in company handbook

Ensuring all relevant training has been attended

Supporting and communicating effectively with the depot team

No day is ever the same with customers new and old requiring equipment sometimes we'll have what they need sometimes not which then can become a challenge if its something that is not widely popular and dificult to locate.

I have learnt many new skillls ranging from meeting and engaging with customers either delivering to them on sites or them calling on the phone sorting out any issue they might have with equipment,
to maintaining the hire fleet of equipment to a good standard to minimize failures and breakdowns, 

All my colleagues either at our local depot and other locations are friendly and helpfull are able to advise on aspects i am unsure about and we often meet up for social occaisions.

Often in my location I am left working alone for long periods of time as my colleagues have to leave the depot wether it be the Manager having a meeting with a customer or another manager and the delivery driver out on calls which can be challenging as I have to manage the phone lines with customer calls as well as look after and manage the customers coming into the shop making sure everyone gets the same proffessional experience and full attention from myself.

the most enjoyable part of my job (apart from hometime) is knowing that with the help from my co-workers and customers i have formed  some good friendships as well as knowing that in some way i have helped some people wether it be colleagues and or customers and make there day just that bit better.

Where do you start here, offered the position of driver fair enough due to the company's policy of doing an induction course never had the chance even though I am a fully qualified class 1 driver. Many company's I have worked for it was a 1 day serious driving test which I never failed with any company the word experience comes into this.

Management is a point you are asked to comment on here a joke comes to mind with me, told at interview by area manager what the salary was only to find out after starting it was lower only reason given to me was no experience in the hire business, transport is transport no matter what way we look at it, I have delivered and collected more hire equipment than I can remember.

Work place culture, other than the current driver I never felt welcome in the depot.

It says further into this review about rating the ceo, it's about time the ceo had a serious look at why staff continue to leave,  easy answer sort the so called management on how to treat staff.

Finally the hgv driver at the depot fantastic bloke who I spent time with was very helpful and made me welcome.

Two weeks at the place was enough for me.

I worked for a company that was bought out by Speedy and I went from a company that cared for its employees to a company where I was a number. As we went through the Covid-19 Pandemic, they made numerous people redundant with minimal notice and scaled the remaining staff back to a stage where they ended up being overworked.
When you needed any support there was not support.
I was called to a Teams meeting where they announced that they had to make 3 people redundant and I was told I was on the safe list.
4 weeks after that call where 36 of us were put on the safe list, we had a Teams call saying that they were going to shut down the company and we were going to be made redundant.
There was no help, support during this time and the company I was working for was a training part of the company which meant that not only were members of staff made redundant, over 100 apprentices who were working on their qualification were told that they could not continue.
They also had no support from Speedy.
I was very disappointed and the only gains I had from working with Speedy was that I had discount on tool hire.
I would not recommend working for Speedy.


Worst place I have ever worked for back stabbing and corruption used Covid to get better job
If your face does not fit because you speak up about decisions that affect good staff or long term customers your life is made difficult and you will be harassed for the smallest of details whilst managers and supervisors break every rule they set for others laughing about it
Some of the management have obvious  personality disorders and its about time drug and alcohol tests were carried out regular for everyone
More redundancies and closures obviously coming due to better  experience of ordering hire equipment elsewhere and online caused mostly by   the backward thinking and  incompetence of just a few that are going to get a shock trying to find another job or working elsewhere 
Bad attitudes are plenty and the company are unwilling to listen or change 
A shame as was once a good place to work 
My new job  is so much better like night and day you dont  see how bad its got  until you work elsewhere avoid or get out whilst you still can
